Lottery Dilemma

Post by Virtual Jarmo »

Tommy, our ATL GM and one of your soon-to-be Committee members, has astutely pointed out to me that the existing lottery program we have has the wrong percentages. We now have three options. We use that one even though it's wrong, we base our lottery on what happens with the real life lottery in 3 hours, or we figure out some way to produce a random number generator to simulate the lottery as accurately as we can.

I'm sure this won't get read much before the real lottery, so people will have skewed opinions, but hopefully it gets some feedback.

There are numerous websites with random number generators, so that is an option. The chat client used by the league might even have something like that built into it.

I'd be ok using the lotto sim that is on the NHL website. There is one on the Oilers Website... http://oilers.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=68769 and just had NJ get picked moving them to the #2 pick. just hit refresh - I'd say - best of 5 - take a screen shot each time and the most outcomes get's picked to move up.

Roll dice? Or how about go with the NHL's results?

I know there are NBA lottery sims too out there but I think the percentages are different.

I like the idea of going with the NHL's results. But, we have 5 minutes to decide that.

I can't figure out a random number generator, though, admittedly, I haven't tried too hard.

AHL playoffs start tonight for those involved.

http://www.random.org/

Min = 1, Max = 1000.

Detroit gets 1-250 (250 total)
Minnesota gets 251-439 (188 total)
Etc.

Just a suggestion.

Meaning, if EDM wins, you keep the pick. If Colorado wins, Colorado has the first EHEC pick. If Florida wins, Minnesota has first EHEC pick.

Just going off what seed wins the real-life one.

NHL results = majority out 5 votes.

So, the NHL results will determine our draft order.

I'd go with NHL results. However, I'm actually third in EHEC (and second in the NHL), so if FLA wins in the NHL then I'd win in EHEC, correct?

Yeah, you're right. The standings page wasn't updated on the EHEC page.
