Another trade between the Penguins and the Blues...
To Pittsburgh
Barret Jackman (69)
Mathieu Garon (61)
STL 1st round 2011
To St.Louis
Robyn Regehr (84)
PIT 2nd round 2012
I needed a player like Regehr on the blue line. A big physical D-man with great endurance (86) to eat up icetime. Both defensemen's salaries are similar but unlike Jackman who would've been my 5th or 6th defenseman, Regehr is Top 3 talent so it's a no brainer. Having 3 NHL caliber goaltenders on the team, Garon was expendable. I'm always hesitant when it comes to trading 1st rounders but I feel I have enough young talent on the team as it is, allowing myself to trade it for veteran help.

Re: PITTSBURGH - ST.LOUIS
I wasn't planning on moving Regehr, but St-Louis' 1st is a very nice gamble. Also, Souray-Despres-Kulikov-Streit are all proven defenders that would have had to share with Regehr for ice-time, so having Jackman paired up with Letang on the 3rd pairing will fix that problem.
Thanks Mike, and looking forward to dealing with you again in the future.
