Short explanation : While Orpik was my best defensive defenseman (according to DEF), the truth is that he's going to turn 34 before the next season 2014/15 starts and I already have 6 defensemen who can play in Dallas in the next season (Tyutin, Oleksiak, Ellerby, Bieksa, Fistric, Exelby) so getting :2nd ANA, which is going to be around 44-48 pick overall in this upcoming entry draft + 3rd DET 14, - in return is pretty good for me. I will also clear some space under the cap by this move.

With Orpik and his 88 CON, what you see is what you get; he hits and creates turnovers and that's all I'm asking for.
Lots of PM's were exchanged for this one until I finally decided to send the 2nd rounder to get this over with. I don't mind paying for a bruiser with a fairly high LE and great CON anyway.

Orpik is under the final year of his contract. I can let him walk come July if I need the space but for now I plan to keep him around and maybe even name him team captain since the current one is likely on his way out.
