NYR-BOS

To NYR:
Boston 3rd round pick 2014 draft
Boston 5th round pick 2014 draft

To Boston:
Matt Smaby (79)

Reasoning: NY needs picks for their rebuild, I want a shutdown d-man for depth for the playoff run and who can go to the farm if/when necessary, and who's on a team-friendly contract. I consider a deep 3rd round pick and a 5th rounder I couldn't give an iota of a shit about as good payment for that player. It gives me options for developing Zadorov going forward as well.

Rangers confirm.

Smaby's playing time had diminished significantly with Seth Jones' development and the acquisition of Dan Girardi, making him quite expendable. Plus, I have a shit-ton of D prospects bubbling up now and more picks mean more flexibility in this year's draft, and I have confidence I'll be able to get (or make a trade for) someone at least as good as Smaby.

Good luck going forward, Boston.
