Rationale: I could use the scoring and leadership help from David Legwand, and I'm fine paying more now for a shorter contract if Legwand doesn't work out. I've got some cheaper replacements for Kobasew who I'd like to see some time this year, and most definitely next year. The 3rd is just reward for taking on cap space for Legwand.

Pretty much a cap deal for me. Legwand wasn't fitting in anywhere, and I wanted to be rid of his salary. Kobasew (62) is a useful 3rd/4th line banger and bitchslap partner to the slump-prone Dane Byers. The third is the cost of moving DL's salary.
