I really like the players I'm sending to Vancouver, hate losing another year of picks, hate even more adding Bieksa's disgusting contract, but that was the asking ''godfather'' price for Jensen, which I've had an eye on ever since Jason joined the league. 78 SH, 78 PL and 94 hitting is something rare, worth paying big money. As for Betts, I insisted to have him to fill the 4th line C hole with Holland now in MTL. McLeod was not playing enough for his salary.
Thanks for the business, Jason and good luck in your first season.
Well sorry, but you show up and have traded all of their good core players away and for what in return? VAN is a fringe playoff team, they would have made it if they had an active GM last year.
Jensen is a beast, 10 x the player Elsner is, there is absolutely no reason to trade him in Vancouver's state right now.
Wouldnt you think Jensen would keep you competitive for this year and any future years?
I do worry about my own team, but I also worry about the league in general. What IF you decided to step away from VAN? Then we gotta bring in someone to manage them with their core completely gutted and nothing to show for it.
Against my best judgment, and putting aside everything I hate about this deal, it's approved. For one thing, Vancouver has totally decimated the entire top six of his roster. Sure, you could make the argument that he's putting his own stamp on the team, which is fine, but that's a sad looking roster. Picks and prospects aside, that's going to be a really bad roster this season. I'm pleased that it would appear that Jason is going to be around for the long haul because he's got some waiting to do. Jensen was one of the best remaining players left and is now gone. The cost of getting rid of Bieksa's awful contract, which Jason purposely inherited is definitely high. There could be a Jensen or better player at PIT's 1st in 2015. The implied value of the 1st round pick is why this deal is approved.
I'm trusting that Jason has a plan here and that it doesn't include abandoning the team.
My biggest problem with this deal is the ludicrous trading of the entire 2015 draft. Not only is it unrealistic and the definition of ridiculous, I know without a shadow of a doubt that Bern is going to be frantically trying to trade back into the 2015 draft. It's not in line with our standards as a league.
The only reason I'm letting this through is because the value is close enough to do so. I definitely don't endorse this deal in any way, but I cannot reject it because of my personal opinion of it. I did that once with a deal and it cost us a great GM for far too long of a period of time.
Regarding the opinions posted in this thread and some of the really pathetic things I've heard about that have been said in private among GMs, this is not at all what we want to be. If GMs have concerns or opinions, sending a PM is a very easy thing to do. I'm happy for the competitive nature of the league and the fact that so many guys are so invested emotionally that they are passionate about the league, but by no means do I want to ever hear again about physical threats, plausible or otherwise, said in private.
I'm leaving this thread locked. Anything that needs to be said can be said to myself, Pat, or Tim in private.
