CGY - PHX

Calgary receives:

R/L Quinton Howden (68)
C/L Max Gardiner (64)

Phoenix receives:

R/L David Elsner (79)

Neither Howden nor Gardiner were guys I wanted to move. Both provide very cost-effective two-way play and have specific talents I value: Howden with his hitting, and Gardiner with his faceoffs. Elsner, however, is a player I've had my eye on since the 2010 draft, where I practically flipped a coin in choosing between he and Joe Basaraba. An opportunity to land Elsner now is one I can't pass up. Phoenix confirms this deal. A pleasure doing business with you, Julien!

Accepted.

I felt like I was a little low in the prospect tank and needed to take care of that.
The way I see things, Elsner would've been a good 3rd line strap guy with a good shot while Howden and Gardiner are more of the 4th line H&G type-o-guys which is what I'd like my team to play.
Both guys I get can skate, hit and maybe put up some points on the board. They're also very cap-friendly.

I really hate to lose a guy that has fought 21 times this past season but there's a price to pay when your asking for guys that the other GM doesn't necessarily want to trade.

Phoenix is a well-managed and classy organisation,
I wish you good luck in the future and it's always a pleasure doing business with you.
