Since everybody's getting into trading again, here's proof that hockey's all business, not war.
To Winnipeg: Alec Martinez (60), rights to Brad Boyes (72)
To San Jose: Niklas Backstrom (84)
I need a goalie cause Nabokov's too old to go through even 30 regular season games without declining. Backstrom's got at least another year left in him, maybe two and he's just as good on paper.
Martinez was never going to earn a spot with Klefbom, Forbort and Yuen acquired in the last year so hopefully he can earn some time in Winnipeg and develop up to his full 75/74 potential. Boyes is probably the main piece going back, an all-offense right winger who should provide some goals amongst the large collection of left-shooting checking forwards in Winnipeg. While he could be good for 60+ points next season I just don't have the room to keep him with Radulov coming back, a bunch of E5 bonuses and Backstrom's 6 million. Good luck y'all and hope we meet again in next year's Finals.

I was planning on Backstrom or Brodeur carrying the water in the postseason. Luckily Campbell showed up in a big way and ignited a deep run. In 54 regular season games Campbell's GAA trailed only Lundqvist and Bryzgalov among goalies with significant playing time. To make a long story short, Jack, here are the keys to the franchise.
I probably overpaid at the deadline to have Backstrom in place as insurance. With one expensive year left on his deal I needed to recoup something close to the first and third sent to Minnesota. Draft picks would have been nice as Dan and I also discussed the 30th selection. However, with the whispers of additions to other East contenders I felt the need to join the arms race as well.

Yeah but we agreed that Russian goalies are fucking useless until they win the cup or whatever.
Re: San Jose Sharks - Winnipeg Jets
Truth. Didn't click all the way to the top to see Brodeur and Varlamov sitting there too. Postseason then.CapsGM wrote:that varlamov dude was pretty goodGoJetsGo wrote:I was planning on Backstrom or Brodeur carrying the water in the postseason. Approved.
Committee rationale: With the game probably opening up some more with the NZT restrictions to go along with the H&G restrictions, Boyes should carry more value as an offense-first player, one that WPG's defense-oriented team needs. It's hard to envision a scenario where WPG fails to come to terms with Boyes in rights arbitration. Martinez is a decent two-way defenseman who is a bit of a change from some of the guys that WPG currently has on D.
While WPG likely could have gotten more for Backstrom, there aren't a ton of teams in the market for a 33 year old goaltender making 6M. Certainly, WPG doesn't want to risk having a 6M backup on the bench. Nabokov could make for an interesting free agent coming off a Stanley Cup winning season.
