Two Questions: Goalies and AHL playoffs

Post by Commish Bub(NYR) »

A couple of questions for the commishes, because you obviously have nothing else on your plate right now. :P

1. Will we address goalie "fatigue" or overuse for future seasons? (Future because the day before the season starts is not the time to institute a new rule.) A maximum number of games played for starting goalies? Right now there is no rule, correct?

2. Will player attribute increases from the AHL playoffs be incorporated into the "regular" savefile? The nice thing about doing AHL playoffs in my offline careers is that it gives my prospects at least a few more games to get some more boosts, esp for leadership.

Thanks

We should all be old enough and mature enough to realize that goaltenders get tired. If you want him to play 78 regular season games, that's on you. Maybe you should trade for/sign a more capable backup.

Yeah. I should be able to get a program to compare the two files and show me all the changes and I can manually do them. Sounds like fun.

There's already a program that does it all for you.

There's a significant advantage to playing your starter for every game, though. It allows you to always have the best performance in net, and also allows you to never pay a backup goalie more than the league minimum as they're only on your roster in case of injury and because the game demands two goalies on the roster. EHM doesn't adequately simulate the realism involved in goalie fatigue. I'm not in favor of rules for the sake of rules, but I've always supported a maximum games played rule for starting goalies as it prevents exploitation of game mechanics in the same way as a limitation on H&G tactic use. Just my $0.02.

I agree with Parker here, and that was the original intention of my post.

Commish, I believe my backup is perfectly capable for his limited role. Perhaps you should tell that to Lou Lamoriello?

I didn't realize the EHM bug because, well, I use what should be common sense and rest him every now and then just assuming that he gets worn down.

We'll look in to it as a Committee for sure now that you mention the bug factor.

Yeah I agree with Parker too !

When I was commish, I'd decide on the number of games a goalie could start/play based on the endurance he had at the BEGINNING of the season. Here's the system I was using:

below 74 endurance=65 games
75-79 endurance=68 games
80-84 endurance=70 games
85-89 endurance=74 games
90-94 endurance=77 games
95-99 endurance=80 games

that'd give Brodeur/Luongo 77 games Ward 70 games.. etc...

Up to you, just want to help :D

PS: im the new NashvilleGM, wassup !
