Florida Contracts 2012
Markstrom - 4 years (@3.75?)
Gustafsson - 3 years + TO
Shore - 4 years
Repik - 1 year
Leopold - 2 years at the same (1.8), unless, I suppose, he has to go to arbitration.
Hudler - Arbitration
and a question - would I really have to give McLeod a substantial raise to retain him?

Markstrom - Arbitration
Gustafsson: 1,868,750 (1,968,750 base - 100k HI)
Shore: 2.25M (2.1M base + 350k def. spec - 200k PL, SH)
Repik: 2,912,499 (2,762,499 base + 350k off. spec - 200k CH, HI)
Leopold - Arbitration
Hudler - Arbitration
McLeod: 1.35M (1.55 base - 200k SH, PE)
So, no, not a substantial raise to McLeod. From 1,033,333 to 1.35M. Probably a slightly better player than Chad LaRose who I'm paying 1.335 to.

Shore falls under new "Tyler Myers Rule":
2.55M (2.4 base + 350k def spec - 200k PL, SH)
Only a 300k difference, so I'm going to go ahead and offer it.

Re: Florida Contracts 2012
Awards have been determined in the Jacob Markstrom, Jordan Leopold, and Jiri Hudler arbitrations.
Markstrom
Terms: 4 yrs
GM proposal: 2.75M per; comps: Enroth, Pavelec, Irving, Helenius, Pickard, Price, Varlamov, Mason
Agent proposal: 3.4M per; comps: Leclaire, Mason, Bernier, Lehtonen
Here, we've got a case of an unproven goaltender with a wide range of comps. The latter four of the GM's list were to show what better goaltenders are making and the first four were the comparable players to Markstrom. It's a difficult list of comps because Enroth and Helenius have arbitrations pending and those are guys who could set the market. Instead, Markstrom will likely set the market.
The closest comparable in this case is Pickard, who is the same age, 80 POT 78 CON to Markstrom's 81 POT 74 CON. The difference he is that Markstrom was a starter while Pickard was a part-time player. We kept Pickard's salary low based on lack of a track record, even though he was going to be a starter in the near future.
It's hard to rule on Markstrom's numbers as the Panthers played a lot of offensive tactics, have an extremely young roster, and gave up quite a few goals.
In realizing that Markstrom will set the market for a few other goaltenders, anything less than 3M is probably an underpayment, especially given that guys like Enroth and Pavelec are only part-time starters.
I award Jacob Markstrom $3,200,000 for the next four seasons.
Leopold
Terms: 2 yrs
GM proposal: 1.5M per; comps: Bergeron, Hamrlik, Kubina, Boynton, Robidas, Lydman
Agent proposal: 2M per; comps: Daley, Ehrhoff, Zanon
Leopold holds a team option at 1.8M, which is something that was considered. In essence, Leopold is just an average guy. He's neither good nor bad and his LE isn't too helpful for a player of his age and experience. His production has decreased each of the last two seasons.
That said, Leopold did lead his team in TA-GA ratio, and that's worth something on a team that plays a very offensive style. He'll continue to get pushed by prospects and is a difficult player to trade, which makes this a hard case to rule on as Leopold just doesn't have anything impressive about his game. I think a decrease is fair in this instance.
I award Leopold $1,600,000 for the next two seasons.
Hudler
Terms: 1 yr
GM proposal: 2.3M; comps: Stempniak, Raymond, Steen, Nilsson, Svatos, Grabovski
Agent proposal: 2.9M; comps: Samsonov, Grabovski, Calder
This is another tough case because Hudler would be overpaid on most teams, but on a team like Florida without a whole lot of depth, Hudler had a 25-goal season and is, arguably, the best RW on the Panthers if Frolik is playing center. In other words, Hudler means a lot more to Florida than he would to somebody else.
Even still, he's overpaid at this salary. The same agent who handled the Grabovski case actually lobbied for 2.5M, but the GM offered a higher amount. I see no reason why 2.5M can't work here for Hudler.
I award Hudler $2,500,000 for the 2012-13 season.
Zaq, you can accept/reject these awards.

I will accept Leopold and Hudler, and I suppose I begrudgingly accept that Markstrom's now making more than Price.

Price was a bad pre-financial policy contract and there are only 5 different E5 bonuses, all of which he's gotten.Jungle Cats wrote:I suppose I begrudgingly accept that Markstrom's now making more than Price.

Nikolai Prokhorkin, 3 year ELC at...$2,000,000?! God, let's hope he's worth it. Need that offered asap, s'il vous plait.
Re: Florida Contracts 2012
Was there somewhere I was supposed to okay Phillip Samuelsson's TO?
(and bumping so that Prokhorkin gets his rewards.)
