Kostitsyn is out 3 weeks. Need some help badly, Tangradi is relatively cheap and still young. I'll try and get him out of his funk.

Tangradi has been traded a couple of times before so there is a bit of precedent. He was most recently acquired by Edmonton from Pittsburgh for 2011 1st rounder Brandon Saad. On its face a 2013 2nd round pick might not seem to be equivalent to the prospect the Oilers gave away to acquire him. However, the pick does belong to the Islanders and pending an extreme turn around next year the selection should be top 40.
Even though it's impossible to gauge the value of 2013 selections, other transactions around the league seem to place a preference on the 2013 draft. The trade committee also considered Tangradi's current perceived value in EDM's view and realizes it isn't necessarily the same as a few months back.
