I am in need of a pure goal scorer. Hate to help the Flamers out in the FA circle but I feel in the long run this is a big benifit to the team as it also clears cap space for signing some important young stars. Horc has 3 more years after this at a costly $5.5M With Ebs and Summers up for likely big raises this is an important move.

Scott Glennie was not part of any of my future plans. I know he's got potential and average-to-good consistency but he did nothing to impress whatsoever. His place belongs somewhere else where he can maybe crack a roster spot in the bigs.

Horcoff is a great leader who can log in big minutes. Obviously he's got a shitty contract but since I can afford him now there's no way I was gonna pass on this.
I guess a second round pick is not that bad also.

Summer time could be short this year in Calgary.



I also really enjoy the fact that I'm robbing a division rival from his captain.
Calgary's newly-named and injured captain Dion Phaneuf now has Brad Richards and Shawn Horcoff to provide leadership to this young Flames' squad.
