Malkin slots rather neatly into the role once filled by Mikael Granlund in Florida, with the added benefit of being excellent on the dot. Laferriere is a decent prospect, but he’s at the point in his career where he needs time in the big show, and he wasn’t likely to get it in Florida.

Very tough to bid farewell to Malkin but here we are.
He won two cups with us and he was one of the, if not the most important piece to get it done. But he's not getting any younger and we need to create roster space and cap space for the next years. This trade at least gives us something of value in return.
