NYR // PHI // WSH

Post by NYRNYRNYR »

NYR Receives:
Mikko Rantanen [71] (50% retention for 2 years from WSH)

PHI Receives:
DET 2025 1st
Mathieu Cataford [79]

WSH Receives:
LAK 2025 2nd
PHI 2026 4th

WSH will pay both years retention on this years cap, calculated as: 1.95*(82+35)/35 so 6.52m against their cap this year.

So this was a long runway. I expressed interest on Rantanen probably before UFA even hit or at least some time at the beginning of the year. Talks heated up as PHI began to sell. I end up paying what will be a late first and my sweet sweet double-boosted boy, along with the 2nd to WSH for the money. Rantanen is an upgrade over Boedker, who admittedly has been strong offensively this year for sure. He’s been great at that, but defensively that line is getting shivved. Rantanen helps with that, plus I get him at 1.95 for this year and next, which is a major part of the overall plan. WSH gets futures for cap space he indicated he didn’t plan on using this year anyway. Players with high playmaking have been doing quite well for themselves this season, and in fairness to my team - Nuke is the 99 SHT on that line, so now he’s got two legit playmakers with him.

Thanks boys, good luck with the futures and here’s hoping Rantanen is a big add for me like Carolina got IRL.

accept

I receive decent picks (2nd and a 4th) for cap space that probably was not going to be used.

Thanks all!

Accept. I suck. Kane could’ve been re-signed, but I’m definitely not in a cup window, so the first and a double booster is great for me. The first has potential to be not super late as well. Thanks to Washington for making this possible as well!

Oh wait brain fart this is Rantanen. He’s on a friendly deal but doesn’t fit my timeline, as we are looking younger than ever! SORRY. ignore above

We don't do cap hits that vary by year. Rantanen has (with the WAS game from the 29th) (34/82 + 2)*3.9 = 9.417M left to pay out, of which WAS can retain 0.5*(34/82 + 1)*3.9=2.76M, which will be a 6.65M cap penalty for WAS. You have to cover the remaining 6.657M/(34/82 +2)=2.76M (rounded down to 2.75, fine).

You guys couldn't have Washington give up even one single thing eh? Not even swapping 5ths in 2028? 🙃
