I wasn't expecting or looking to trade Pietrangelo at all but I need help between the pipes in order to be competitive. The Finnish goaltender is one of the best in the league and at 26 still has tons of good hockey in him.

Reasoning:

With Pavelec waiting in the wings in the AHL and recent draftee Jack Campbell soon to follow, I suddenly had an excess of goaltending. Therefore, I determined it to be in the team's best interest to better balance the roster. Now that I think about it, swapping firsts could be a dangerous proposition, however, this is all the more incentive to quickly and efficiently build the team up.

Adding Pietrangelo solidifies my top two defense lines for the forseeable future. On one line I will have Bogosian and Pietrangelo, another Forbort and Gormley. As mentioned before I have Pavelec and Campbell in place in net. If the best plan is to build from the net out I believe I'm off to a good start.
