Hmmm another GM that knows WTF they are talking about.....is there any other smart Gms here?Bruins_GM wrote:Isn't that how the NHL CBA works?BlackHawk Down (Seb) wrote:May I propose solutions/ideas:
I think we should not be allowed any moves (trades/signings) that put a team over the cap/roster limit. Because it is where teams break rules after some moves. So, If a team wants to sign a guy, he needs to be at 49 contracts or lower. If a team wants to acquire 4 guys against 2 put that puts him over the limit, he needs to release 2 guys before the trade, not after. If a team wants to trade players, the players he receives need to fit the cap. If a team would exceed the cap with a trade, but would fit the cap with a demotion once the deal is entered, this should be mentionned as soon as the deal is posted.
As for injuries that bring call-ups that put teams over the cap: If we want to play with a firm cap, I think the only solution is that If an injury brings you over the cap ( and you havent kept room for that ) you have either your best player out or something... Because these over the cap issues will happen because of injuries (although they shouldnt) and you should not be allowed an extra player that make you bust the cap.
I was penalized because a move I made earlier this season put me over the cap. Should have planned my things better. Lesson learned.

Why not? If this was all real, you could agree to sign a player before releasing someone else, then release the other guy before putting pen to paper. But it ain't real so we deal with the timing issues as best we can.Singin the BLUES wrote:You can not say....hmmm i will let go player X if i get player Y but if i dont i will cover my ass all in a days work....it dont work that way Vik and you know that...

i explained myself pretty well i think.....you wouldnt hear the Flyers say....well....we will write off Vinnys cap if Radulov agrees to our contract within a few hours, but Vinny can still play up until the 2nd or 3rd period when Radulov says yes ok to the contract....or just after the gane....or evenb before the game( whichever the simmer enters first) that wont happen at all......dont even say it will..........and thats all i have to say toyour comments.,Vik (Habs) wrote:Why not? Re: Payrolls 2014-2015
You keep saying you want penalties but I'm not clear if you want them for the Giroux trade or the UFA signings and still don't see why there should be for either. You also keep saying you want a level playing field but I still don't see what isn't level about it.Singin the BLUES wrote:i explained myself pretty well i think.....
Well your specific example doesn't really make sense for the NHL (it'd only make sense for Philly to drop Vinny in the offseason) but, ignoring that, they wouldn't say that's what they did but why wouldn't they do it like that? If you can hedge your bets, why wouldn't you?Singin the BLUES wrote:you wouldnt hear the Flyers say....well....we will write off Vinnys cap if Radulov agrees to our contract within a few hours, but Vinny can still play up until the 2nd or 3rd period when Radulov says yes ok to the contract....or just after the gane....or evenb before the game( whichever the simmer enters first) that wont happen at all......dont even say it will..........and thats all i have to say toyour comments.,

How the fuck can someone say....welllif i can get player A off of UFA ...THEN i will drop player B........where the fuck is that fair....i know Giroux trade is AFTER the sim........so.....where AFTER the sim is the ....welll i will drop player a, b c ,and d as long as UFA 1 , 2 3 and 4 will take my offer??........As far as i know there is now being over the limit at alll in NHL...and isnt that what this league is trying to duplicate?....thats what i see they are trying to do and with this move....it isnt working......again that is like trying to say....well....vVinny and Umberger and Laughton are gone....but ONLY if ......player A and player B and player C are willing to sign with us and no one else.......and the team is STILLL over the limit....for what? a day? 2? maybe 3? ....hmmm wouldnt go over very well with Bettman would it?

What's wrong with it? How is it unfair?Singin the BLUES wrote:How the fuck can someone say....welllif i can get player A off of UFA ...THEN i will drop player B........where the fuck is that fair....
I'm not clear on what you're saying here.Singin the BLUES wrote:i know Giroux trade is AFTER the sim........so.....where AFTER the sim is the ....welll i will drop player a, b c ,and d as long as UFA 1 , 2 3 and 4 will take my offer??........
The NHL doesn't have free releases either. There are plenty of differences to account for the fact that this is an EHM league and not real life.Singin the BLUES wrote:As far as i know there is now being over the limit at alll in NHL...and isnt that what this league is trying to duplicate?....
I feel like I've already addressed how this could work in real life (if that's what you're worried about) and you haven't suggested any reason why it couldn't. And Justin hasn't even been over for 1 day yet so why all the hubbub?Singin the BLUES wrote:thats what i see they are trying to do and with this move....it isnt working......again that is like trying to say....well....vVinny and Umberger and Laughton are gone....but ONLY if ......player A and player B and player C are willing to sign with us and no one else.......and the team is STILLL over the limit....for what? a day? 2? maybe 3? ....hmmm wouldnt go over very well with Bettman would it?
Also kind of curious, why Laughton?

Re: Payrolls 2014-2015
1. Was TB over/under the roster limit/salary cap for its game last night? No
2. Has TB released players to accommodate his new signings? Yes
3. Has EVERY trade this season been done AFTER that day's sim, meaning that sometimes a team is using a player who's been traded on the forums but not yet in the game? Yes
You say "level playing field," but no rules were broken.
If anything, yes, we could enforce having GMs add a proviso with every signing or trade that puts them over/under the roster limit: "If this guy signs, then release X" or something like that. Quite often, that is what happens. But if a GM is over/under the limit AFTER his game, but BEFORE his next game, how is that a problem? You say "that wouldn't fly in the real NHL." A lot of shit that happens in this and every other EHM wouldn't fly in the NHL...but so what? This is a hobby, supposedly a fun game, and we're all trying to do the best we can.
If you think someone is gaming the system and breaking rules to their advantage, then say it. If I had proof someone was doing that, they'd be out. If you think things are biased against you, or anyone else here, well....you're wrong.

Re: Payrolls 2014-2015
For fuck's sake. The real NHL doesn't have free releases, and it also doesn't have a "Free Agent" account that all free agent offers are sent to. If something like this had happened in Real Life (TM) it would have gone:
1. GM receives signed contracts from players
2. GM faxes over releases for AHLers
3. GM faxes over contracts for new players
Or maybe 2. would have happened first, after a verbal agreement for 1. Or maybe all of those guys would have been signed to AHL-only contracts (which we don't have) and none of that would have had to happen at all - it would have been dealt with by the AHL affiliate's GM (which we also don't have). Who gives a fuck?

Re: Payrolls 2014-2015
This happens all the time, but teams don't state it because information is power. They have no reason to discuss moves publicly until they are done. In fact, misleading the public can often be in their interests.Singin the BLUES wrote:How the fuck can someone say....welllif i can get player A off of UFA ...THEN i will drop player B........where the fuck is that fair....i know Giroux trade is AFTER the sim........so.....where AFTER the sim is the ....welll i will drop player a, b c ,and d as long as UFA 1 , 2 3 and 4 will take my offer??
The best example I can 75% attest to the truth of to give an example of this is the Stars trying to dump Trevor Daley and Erik Cole the last two years. They aren't going to let anyone know they're doing that, but you can be damn sure that at different points they knew what their next move was.
I'd also cite the Devils. This is how they operated with Parise, Gionta, and Zajac IIRC. They knew all were coming back but waited to sign them during RFA periods due to cap issues.
Just my .02. It happens.

Re: Payrolls 2014-2015
I hope this thread quiets down, but I wanted to make one point. I offered to input my signings after Bub posted the sim last night; he does so much already, I want to make his job as easy as possible. He initially declined and then accepted later that night.
I did not, would never and have never modified the game-file to gain an advantage. It would defeat the purpose of competing against you fine gents'.

Everyone is right up against the cap, not much trading can be done. The 22man roster minimum bugs me, am I the only one? I wish we could go back to 20.

No, if we went back to 20 someone would inevitably find themselves in a situation where they don't have cap space to recall anyone for a short term injury/suspension without waiving at least one roster player.Penguin wrote:Everyone is right up against the cap, not much trading can be done. And realistically, almost all NHL teams carry 21-22 players on their roster, because often someone gets injured on game day and there isn't enough time to fly over a replacement from the AHL affiliate. We're pretty lax about injuries and don't have as many as in the NHL.

Good answer. Just a pain in the ass to have at least 1.2M sitting on the bench.SharksGM wrote:No, if we went back to 20 someone would inevitably find themselves in a situation where they don't have cap space to recall anyone for a short term injury/suspension without waiving at least one roster player.Penguin wrote:Everyone is right up against the cap, not much trading can be done.
