Vancouver Canucks - Edmonton Oilers

Post by VancouverCanucksGM »

To Edmonton
------------------------------
Michael Frolik (74)
Yann Sauve (67)

To Vancouver
------------------------------
Jordan Eberle (73)
Ryan Ellis (68)
Spencer Jensen (75)
EDM 5th 2015

*This deal is contingent on Edmonton acquiring Ellis from Nashville, and being able to waive Eberle's franchise tag.*

Eberle is a young offensive talent, that can give me a little extra pop on my top 2 lines, and should go well with my other new acquisitions. Ellis helps pick up the defensive slack, as well as finally giving me an offensive powerhouse from the backend. Jensen allows me versatility as an AHL/Injury fill in, being able to play both defense and right wing. Lastly, the 5th comes in what should be a deeper draft.

Letting go of Frolik wasn't something I had planned on, but I couldn't turn this deal down. As for Sauve, he, as well as a couple others in the coming days, are simply numbers casualties on my roster.

Vancouver accepts this trade.

Thanks for the deal and the patience Mike, hope Frolik does great for you against every team except mine 8-)

Agreed.

*This trade is pending the acceptance of the JF Jacques/Ryan Ellis deal by the committee.
**Also, as stated in the rulebook, the Edmonton Oilers are formally appealing that the no-trade clause be removed from Jordan Eberle's contract to allow this trade to happen.

I made it an obsession this off-season to transform my top line into a polished, all-around, solid unit. After working hard on a deal for Thomas Vanek (pending), I focused on Michael Frolik and made sure Vancouver couldn't refuse my offer. Tough to let go of a 97SH, 95PL center like Jordan Eberle, but Frolik is simply on another level all-around. There was a gap to fill and Ellis was the price to pay. The 3rd best OF defenseman in EHEC didn't even get the chance to wear the Oilers colors, but this was my initial offer and I really believe it's in the best interest of my team. Vancouver needed to get rid of a d-man and Yann Sauve was sent packing. Turns out I kinda like the guy. With 196 hits given and a +162 TA/GA difference, Sauve will serve as my #6 d-man and should pair up to become a nice shutdown bottom 2 with Brooks Orpik.

Thanks Jason! Hope this trade makes both of our teams better!
