After finishing in 30th place in goals against last season, it is time to get a blue line. What better way to do it than to raid the blue line of the Stanley Cup champions! After four seasons of missing the playoffs, it's time to do something about it.

I received many competitive offers for Filip Forsberg, but in the end I decided to bolster my defense core with veteran Zdeno Chara, a defensive beast like none other that I've ever had on my roster with 87 DF and a blistering shot, two-way defenseman Ryan Whitney who is young enough to patrol the blue line at Pepsi Center for a decade, and shut-down forward J.T. Miller who actually spent time on the top (non-HG) line of the champs. With Doughty and Dougie, Chara won't be required to be exclusively on the top pairing with a somewhat low endurance at the age of 36.

In return I give up former second overall pick and future EHEC superstar Filip Forsberg, who is NHL-ready at 77 OA as a teenager. Adding Forsberg to the Penguins creates a ridiculous top six that already featured Jarome Iginla, Anze Kopitar, Cody Hodgson, James van Riemsdyk and Milan Michalek. Along with Forsberg comes John-Michael Liles, a solid all-around defenseman that can help Bern's bottom pairing, as well as a 2nd round selection in the next draft.

This deal was also made possible by my cap space. With no damage done by bonuses and several expiring contracts, it allows me to acquire both Chara and Whitney knowing only ballpark cap hits.

Nice deal Bern.

I confirm this beautiful trade!

This might bite me in the ass, but I couldn't pass on adding another forward like Forsberg to all the names Quinn mentioned. Miller did well all along and I would have liked to keep him, but he was my only trading asset up front. As for my D core getting a huge hit, I feel that Ranger & Blum will eat those 1st pairing minutes as well as Whitney & Chara did. And, Girardi & Gunnarsson will move to the 2nd pairing. My new 3rd pairing of Liles & Matheson will be fucking soft for what I usually have on my 3rd pairing, so we'll see how this goes day-to-day. Also bugs me that Liles makes 3.5M for 3 years and he's got mediocre CON and hitting.

Good luck my man Quinn it's about time you show these losers in the West how it's done!

Approved.

Our first post-season blockbuster!

The names haven't even been etched into the Cup and Bern is breaking up the old gang. A bit of a risk here for Bern, as he gives up a third of his blue line for the high-flying Forsberg. And Colorado suddenly looks a whole lot tougher.
