TOR/PHX

Post by TorontoGM »

To Phoenix:

Sam Grist(84)
TOR 2014 5th

To Toronto:

Mike Reilly(63)
Maximilen La Sieur(53)

Accept,

While I value what Grist can bring to my team with his leadership and consistent defensive game, with Mayfield developing into a great shut down guy, I felt like Grist was expendable. With the departure of Enstrom, it left a hole on my 2nd PP unit which Reilly can easily step into. La Sieur will develop into quite the useful bottom 6 forward and also adds depth to my system.

Thanks for the deal Parker.

Grist brings that honest-to-god enforcer my organization has been missing since the departure of Big Georges Laraque. There are three things Grist does well: hit, fight, and provide leadership beyond his years. With the right training he should become a very solid physical defenseman to boot. On the other hand, he's a mortal lock to lead the team in penalty minutes and might cause me to tear my hair out with his lack of discipline. Can he scrap, though? I think so. He's a born Coyote.

I really hate to let go of either Max Le Sieur or Mighty Mike Reilly. They're both very good depth with interesting skill sets. Grist however fills a specific organizational need, and as the saying goes, you have to give to get. The 5th rounder softens the blow somewhat.

As always, a pleasure doing business with you, Mike. Phoenix approves this trade.

Hehehe. My Thrashers in the PUHL had a defensive pairing of 6'9 250lb Lane Manson and 6'7 245lb Boris Valabik. Both of them were very big, very strong, very mean, and very undisciplined. Sauer/Grist might not be quite in the same class, but they still carry on my proud EHM tradition of employing mean physical blueliners who aren't adverse to throwing an elbow or a knee or using a little bit of creative stickwork once in a while. :D
