To Boston: Riley Sheahan(81), Dustin Boyd(62) and CGY's 2013 4th round pick

To Calgary: Patrik Berglund(71), Brad Marchand(56) and CBJ's 2013 2nd round pick

Reasoning: Sheahan might be a little more consistent than Berglund but a 6'4" faceoff specialist I think is going to help my team more than Sheahan was able to. I didn't want to waive Dustin Boyd being 25 years old so I had to keep him as the 14th forward on the big team but his 1,1M$ contract was getting heavy to carry around. Now, 24 years old Brad Marchand can join my AHL team and help kids like Kucherov, Rautiainen, Hyka and Mustonen develop. The pick swap is the price Boston had to pay in order to get the advantage in the players swap.

Fair enough proposal, Jason.

Confirmed.

I like working in deals that involve strength for strength. Berglund is a good player and a heck of a faceoff man, but Sheahan has a decent skillset, is more consistent and is a little bit better overall (OF and OD) than Berglund. He's much cheaper and if worse comes to worse can be sent to the AHL to dominate. His defensive skills make him less of a liability on the bottom 6, and he has the offensive skills to find a place as a winger in the top-6 in an emergency.

Dustin Boyd has a better set of skills than Brad Marchand for what I intend to use him for, and if push comes to shove can be cut at anytime or sent to the farm.

Both players give me more options for lineups depending on opponents, and the pick swap was just incentive to get the deal done. I'm already picking 4 times in the first 60 picks, so again it's dealing strength for strength.

I think this deal gives me more cap room to make adjustments near the trade deadline in the future, and gives more more lineup options right now to adjust for opponents.

Pleasure doing business with you.
