Pittsburgh Penguins -- Calgary Flames

Post by Penguin »

to Pittsburgh Penguins:

2nd 2012 EDM (#40)
2nd 2012 WPG (#59)

to Calgary Flames:

Kevin Shattenkirk (83con)

Reasoning:
Shattenkirk played very well for me when I got him in the Jonathan Bernier trade last year, especially on the PP, but I still needed to shred some cap and either Paul Martin or him had to go. Didn't get any offers for Paul Martin and as soon as I made Shattenkirk available, Julien was interested. Time to scout the rest of the draft!

The Flames accept this deal.

My hopes were set on getting Malcolm Subban with the #40 pick. Since he's long gone and I feel like a dumbass for even thinking he'd slip this far I didn't feel like I'd fill a need with whoever I'd pick in this round. I can pass on this year's draft, my team's fairly young.

On the other hand, Shattenkirk is a solid PP QB who's only 23 years old. Big shot, GREAT CON.
I'm actively looking for a first line offensive guy and as it's known I'm shopping Phaneuf around.
That will be the first step to this puzzle i'm trying to put together.

My first off season will be a good one.

Trade Approved.

We realize that Shattenkirk is an impressive talent for Calgary to reel in at this stage of the draft. A quick glance at Bern's payroll details illustrates that he needed to shed some salary, even after shipping Cleary back to Detroit. Another $4M slashed gets him closer to salary cap range.

For Julien, KS is developed and superior to what's left on the board.
