New York Islanders - Columbus Blue Jackets

Islanders send:

Erik Gudbranson 76
Maxim Kitsyn 74
NYI 1st - 7th Overall Pick in 2012
Pekka Rinne 74
NYI 2nd - 37th Overall Pick in 2012

Jackets send:

Rick Nash 86
Kevin Lynch 60
NYI 3rd round pick (67th)

Reasoning: I'm getting the star that I want to play with JT. I finished 28th in goal scoring last year and with the addition of Nash, I hope this will get me into the top 15 teams offensively. I know i'm losing a great defenseman in Gudbranson, a good forward in Kitsyn and a good prospect with the 7th overall pick. But i have to do it, simply because i'm tired of being in the last 10 teams every year. Nash will get me to the next level.Nash is the second best player in the game besides Staal so I think this is the right price to pay.

Columbus accepts.

This is the shake-up I was looking for. This package is on par with what WSH got for Ovechkin and Rinne is in the deal to help me get back a starting goaltender after I traded Mason. NYI has other plans for his goaltending situation, especially if he starts Christopher Gibson who is ready, so Rinne really doesn't hold a ton of value. I just as easily could have gotten somebody else in free agency or used Gustavsson. I think he's better than the other options, but more of a throw-in for this deal.

Gudbranson and McIlrath, if I play them together, are as good as any shutdown pairing in the league. Kitsyn and the 7th pick will help to replace Nash offensively and give me a very strong young core to build around.

Nash is a monster. I'll be interested to see how my team fares without a player like him. I'll be really low on LE with all of my acquisitions this summer, but I like the group I'm building. Nash has absolutely no weaknesses in his game and has the 99 HI that teams seem to aspire to have. It's not that I didn't like having Nash on my team, it's just that a situation came up where I could get a boatload of young talent and give myself a team that I'll be happy to follow for several years, which should keep EHEC running strong.

After a couple days of deliberations, Ryan and I have decided to approve this deal.

Thought Process: With a superficial glance, it sure feels as if Columbus receives a bit more in his blockbuster than Washington. The relative values of Ovechkin and Nash are up for debate, but in the final analysis we believe both are superstar talents in the file.

#6 overall vs. #7 overall = Identical assets.

Gudbranson vs. Hamilton Toss up between defenseman. Would you rather have a two-way guy who could have positional attribute deficiencies or a shut-down guy who may end up having health issues. *Gudbranson suffered a long-term injury this season and is also hurt in the latest fast sim.

Tarasenko vs. Kitsyn At their top potential: Tarasenko is an elite offensive talent with a consistency you'll deal with. Kitsyn is a very good offensive talent with a better consistency. 2010 draft indicates elite guys have greater value than very good.

#37 fills the gap between the forwards and 6 vs. 7

Final analysis: Nash for Gudbranson/Kitsyn/7/37 is passable.

Last summer Rinne went for a 2nd between NYI/NSH. Lynch and a 3rd is close enough to that value in our eyes. Islanders have Chris Gibson waiting in the wings and receive the benefit of clearing Rinne's salary.

Funny how the Ovy trade got 2 out of 3 votes and now this one gets 2 out of 2 and NYI is quoted has giving a little more than I did.

Somebody is not consistent? :?

Nash is better than Ovechkin and the plan for Detroit going forward is about as easy to understand as what goes on the other side of a black hole.

If you didn't think your trade was fair, why did you go through with it? Also, The CBS-NYI trade involved a member of the 3-man committee so there was no way to have a 3/3 vote, based on very simple math.

My apologies if this seems rude but you do a lot of complaining for someone who hasn't really been in the league that long, and I have a hard time sitting by while someone slags the commish when he's done nothing but work his ass off for this league. Don't be such an ingrate.

And if there had been a 1-1 tie, there are two or three members on the backup trade committee that could have been asked to give their opinions.

You do not have to apologies for something you feel is right Parker. But I do not see why you see this as a personal attack to commish. He should be attacking me for never understanding the rules.

Besides you guys didn't not see all the negative publicity I got ( I was crying to Mommy!) Still not clear to me why this is 100% approved but this VS Ovy trade (or any other trade I make) but that is my personal opinion.

good luck to both gents!

James - the Ovechkin trade preceded this one and the Committee based their ruling partially on that trade. The fact that Adam was involved in this deal means means that he had no say in the decision and Tommy and Ryan would have had to discuss with a member of the backup Committee if either did not immediately agree on the trade (since we require two Committee members to pass a deal). I would (obviously) be more upset if only 1/3 agreed upon our trade.

Ovechkin's return may have given Adam some more bargaining power with NYI and Nash is arguably a better player with a 99HI and an insane 90DF, so it has little to do with consistency.
