2012 AHL Playoffs

Since I'm a glutton for punishment, we'll be doing AHL playoffs again. The AHL went to the NHL system of seeding (thank god), so it won't be done divisionally anymore. So, 1 v. 8, 2 v. 7, etc. The part you care about is next.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY
Skaters
In order to be eligible for the AHL playoffs, a player must these two criteria:

1. No more than 30 NHL games played.
2. No higher than 72 OA AT THE START OF THE PLAYOFFS

Goaltenders
In order to be eligible for the AHL playoffs, a player must these two criteria:

1. No more than 20 NHL games played.
2. No higher than 75 OA AT THE START OF THE PLAYOFFS.

Underager rules still apply. LE changes will be applied to the main file.

Don't mean to bitch, but what is with this? How realistic is it to ban eighteen year old Tyler Biggs, who is a first year pro and spent over half his season with Norfolk from the playoffs? Same thing with nineteen year old Johan Larsson, first season in North America and spent 49 games with Norfolk (will finish with 24 GP in TB).

I can send 25 year old Ben Bishop, who played 6 out of 65 total games played in the AHL to Norfolk, but I can't send Biggs or Larrson. If that's the way it is, its the way it is. However, I don't see what your trying to prevent with this rule other then a guy like Seguin or Hall going to the minors. I think a rule regarding GP in the AHL in the current season to determine a players playoff eligibility is more appropriate.

Keep in mind that AHL games end in ties, so there are no ROW tiebreakers. It'll be a pain in the ass to go back through and check if there are any tiebreakers. Second tiebreaker, I believe, is head-to-head points.

Biggs wouldn't even be allowed to play in the AHL period. So it's very realistic. Larsson would still be playing or Europe or have been moved to Canadian juniors.

NHL/CHL agreement prohibits under-20 AHLers, except for some loopholes.

First of all, last year, the rule was 74 OA. Some guys went off. Wasn't Matt Duchene playing in the AHL playoffs last year because he was injured? So was Devin Setoguchi. Under no circumstances would those guys ever play in the AHL playoffs.

Last year's rules also allowed two players with more than 35 NHL games played. That clearly didn't work.

Luckily, this doesn't start til sometime next week, so I can do a little bit of research. It's a starting point to have something posted. Whether it's the final ruling or not, I don't know.

Yeah I was able to send Seto bear down for the AHL playoffs to try and counter-act Duchene but it was to no avail.

If there wasn't the 72 OA rule, I could send down Kuznetsov again, and how fair would that be. Pretty unrealistic if you ask me. Could also send Nemeth down, and I think I recall Mark Alt playing in last year's AHL playoffs.

I think if they were already down they should be eligible as well. You posted the first post April 4 so I had no way of knowing that prior to. Watson is a 68OA - played most of the games at NHL level but was already down on the farm before the season ended.

The first season, I posted a Clear Day list like what the AHL teams have to do, but it got little response. So, last year, I just set some standards that were clearly misguided.

Like I said, I'll look it over again. Certainly, a 68 OA player should be eligible.

It'll be a games played + OA combination, I just have to figure out what to do with that. I plan to start the AHL playoff file tomorrow afternoon/evening, so I'll evaluate it then.

Kyle Wellwood wins the AHL scoring race by a 25 point margin, putting up 44/79/123, +60 and only 8 PIM. Grabner lost out on the goalscoring race with 57, 4 shy of Eric Fehr and Justin Abdelkader's 61 goals. I have no idea why Abdelkader is still in the AHL. Alec Martinez was 2 points short of the defenseman scoring lead, putting up 48 points and a +58 in just 50 games. Finally, the line of Wellwood-Grabner-Vorobiev scored 131 of the team's league-leading 277 goals and were just 8 goals short of matching the Albany Devils' season-long goal output. Similarly, the Sharks were 3 wins short of a perfect record at home, going 38-1-2 and leading the league despite a losing record on the road.

I'm just going through and putting everybody on the "pro" roster, which means that you will need to trim your AHL rosters down to 23 or else the game won't let me enter lines. Just post those in the waiver forum. You can "send them down", so to speak, and still maintain control of them. They just can't be on the active playoff roster.

Alright. I think I've got the AHL file done.

I'm going to start the AHL playoffs on Thursday to give everyone time to get the file working and get things in order. The NHL playoffs will start tomorrow night.

Going to look over a couple things and then upload the file as well as post the final criteria for player eligibility.

As always, only 3 underagers per team (4 for Hershey & Wilkes-Barre; per thread, extra underager must be from 2011 draft)

AHL waiver/max salary rules still apply. Player must have two-way/under 25/clear waivers to be sent down. Max salary is 1.5M before game applies two-way salary.

Goalies must meet BOTH of these criteria to be eligible for the AHL playoffs.

1. No more than 20 games at NHL level (1/4 of 82 game schedule).

2. No higher than 75 OA; exception: goaltenders who played 54 or more games at the AHL level this season (2/3 of 82 game schedule).

If underager, counts toward 3 underager rule.

As mentioned here, AHL goaltenders making over 1.5M will have their salaries count as 1.5M and are eligible if they meet the above criteria.


Teams who get eliminated from the playoffs who still have AHL affiliates playing in the postseason can send players down, assuming they meet the criteria.

If you're not sure if a player is eligible, just post them here and I'll answer.

As I said, AHL playoffs start Thursday so we can have a day or two to get this shit squared away.

Uploading the AHL Playoff File now. I did it differently this year with the uploading process. Significantly easier instruction wise now. It's a 45 MB zipfile, though, because it's the entire \EHM directory copied and then important files are edited. So, it will take a few minutes to download and unzip. This is a one-time thing. Once you get the file running, you will just update it the same way you do the EHEC file.

Now, here's the thing. If any of you in the AHL playoffs want to do test sims, you MUST use the eastside program from the AHL folder because the eastside program reads the config_teams.ehm from the folder that it's in. Obviously the AHL playoff one is significantly different than the regular EHEC file.

So, here are your instructions.

1. Download the http://www.ehechockey.com/EHM_AHL.zip zipfile.
2. Unzip Copy of Eastside Hockey Manager - AHL to your desktop.
3. Open folder Copy of Eastside Hockey Manager - AHL.
4. Right click on eastside and place a shortcut on the desktop.
5. If you are on Windows Vista or 7, right click and go to Compatibility Mode and select Windows XP Service Pack 3.
6. Run this eastside. File -> Open League -> AHL. If it works correctly Connecticut Whale will be the second team in the drop-down box on the Team Info tab.

Copy and paste the Copy of Eastside Hockey Manager - AHL folder into your C:\Program Files (or C:\Program Files (x86) folder if you're on Windows 7).

Remember that any time you want to access the AHL Playoffs File, you must open the eastside.exe file within the Copy of EHM - AHL folder.

Thing is this: I know you'd have had Holtby as your NHL backup if you had the cap room. But you had to go with Theodore at the minimum.

I can't really say no. I mean, Holtby spent the entire season in the AHL.

Just want to make it clear that H&G rules apply for the AHL playoffs. 70 sec max H&G, max two lines, max 50 sec on one line. Probably doesn't matter as there aren't many high HI guys, but uniformity makes sense.

No. The game won't let you enter lines unless your roster size is at 23 or less.

Huh? I've never had this problem.

I loaded the AHL save, set lines, confirmed, saved them, loaded the game and confirmed again without any problems despite having 26 guys on my pro roster.
