Draft Review Rewards

Post by Virtual Jarmo »

The deadline has passed for submitting draft reviews.

Eligible teams are: TB, WSH, TOR, NYI, CHI, CBJ, PIT, NYR, PHX, SJ, EDM, NSH, ANA, CAR, WPG, FLA. DET will be eligible to receive half of the reward based on the effort, but did miss the deadline. More than half of the league taking advantage of this opportunity is good to see.

I will post rewards and who gets what shortly, once I decide what I want to give out.

Alright, here we go. Here's how I am going to do this.

I will be putting all of these rewards in to a hat, as I own plenty of them. I will go in order of how the teams are listed in the first post.

After I select a rewards, I will count the number of draft picks you made in the 2011 draft and I will to go random.org and pick a random number in that 1 through x range. That player will get whatever reward is pulled from the hat.

The rewards are:

+10 added to PE rating
+8 LE (cannot be same player as draft preview reward)
+3 SH & CH ceiling (2 sets)
+3 PL & PO ceiling (2 sets)
+3 ST & HI ceiling (2 sets)
(for those 3, if player randomly selected was used for preview reward, cannot be used on same ceiling; so if a player was picked for preview and had 5 added to HI, and you are selected for ST&HI, will be added to ST, but will randomly select another player to add HI to)
+8 SK ceiling
+4 CON (to be split 2/2 among two players (two numbers generated), cannot produce a booster, but can be added to one)
1 free booster for the 2012 draft (draft a booster at slot cost; no charge if he boosts; double boosters, if a second boost, 250k added on)
1 additional draft pick either of the current remaining 2011 Draft class or at the end of the 2012 Draft (so pick #211)
+5 PL ceiling and you will be created for the 2012 Draft Class as a 6 POT/6 CON player (I will make NYR and PHX younger if they win this  )
+5 FA or +5 PE & +5 Str (if selected player does not have C eligibility) (current attributes) and choice of adding one of the 2011 Retiring Players to your Coaching Staff
1 extra underager from the '11 or '12 Draft Class permitted on the farm (so 4 max); extra underager will count toward AHL cap (2 sets of this)
Add alternate winger position (based on handedness) to defenseman and +4 SH ceiling to that player (exception: cannot be first/second rounder; if no D selected, will go to 2010 Draft)

Will post results shortly.

And before I field any bitching for your 7th rounder randomly selected and someone else's 1st rounder, I cannot stress further that this is random. I found it to be an interesting way of doing it other than what I've done in the past where guys can handpick what they want.

Part of the fun of it, if you ask me, is trying our best to simulate the unknown. Guys may develop past their expected ceilings in real life and this is a way to make it happen here.

And let's be honest, I took more time out of my day to come up with these than the articles probably took most of you. Nothing wrong with giving back 15 minutes of your time to write up a quick article, regardless of what the prize may be for it.

I would settle for half of a candy as a reward.

I think you need a nuclear engineering degree to be in this league.... :D

Can't have the order determined by subjective merit? ;)

Numbers = order of pick, 1 = 1st player chosen, 2 = 2nd player, etc.
Team (# of picks): Reward; Player

Tampa Bay (4): 1 free booster for the 2012 draft (either an '11 draftee that boosts or a '12 draftee)
Washington (9): Extra Underager on the Farm for the Entire 2011-12 Season
Toronto (6): +3 SH & CH ceiling to pick #5 Keegan Lowe
New York Islanders (8): Additional draft pick of the 2011 Draft Class or Pick #211 in the 2012 Draft
Chicago (9): +3 SH & CH ceiling to pick #3 Michael Morrison (Glove and Pads in this case)
Columbus (7): +4 CON to pick #6 Jordan Binnington and pick #1 Connor Murphy (split 2/2)
Pittsburgh (5): Extra Underager on Farm for the Entire 2011-12 Season
New York Rangers (8): +3 ST & HI ceiling to pick #8 Zachery Franko
Phoenix (12): +3 ST & HI ceiling to pick #1 Vladislav Namestnikov
San Jose (8): +3 PL & PO ceiling to pick #6 Philippe Hudon
Edmonton (8): +8 SK ceiling to pick #3 Sven Baertschi
Nashville (12): +5 PE & +5 Str to pick #11 Robert Rooba; also, pick of any '11 retiring player as a Staff Member
Anaheim (5): +3 PL & PO ceiling to pick #5 Fedor Belyakov
Carolina (6): +5 SH ceiling and Alt LW/RW position to defenseman pick #6 Harrison Ruopp
Winnipeg (7): +5 PL ceiling to pick #5 Niklas Lundstrom (Blocker in the case) and say hello to 2012 Draftee Tom Kennish! (safe to say you're going to have a 010 SK ceiling)
Florida (6): +10 PE to pick #3 Michael Curtis
Detroit (4): +4 LE (half reward) to pick #4 Tomi Wilenius

what i liked about this, was it was like seeing the Matrix in reverse. instead of looking at "reality" and seeing numbers like Neo could, we read the numbers, but saw "real" people. i thought it was kinda cool.

btw - i was drunk when i came up with this theory. i was also drunk when i conceived my kids, worked yesterday, and a host of other things...

This has to be my comeuppance for suggesting to Adam that if Femur were the draftee only half his salary would count against the cap. [Low Blow man, low blow]

Hahaha. I'm totally on board with this. Although, there are only so many different ways to say "pathetically inconsistent" when writing a draft review. I can't even count the number of times in this draft review that I wrote "needs to improve his focus", "needs to be more consistent", "criticized for his lacklustre work ethic" or whatever. Oh wait, I can count the times. Ten. Hehe. What sucks is when you have to describe a guy with brutal CON but awesome PE: "disciplined, but lacking in work ethic."

And oh yeah, thank you very much Lady Luck for giving me totally useless ceiling boosts. :P

Nice, that's one, maybe even two meaningful ceiling boosts!

That extra 2 PL/PO on Hudon will prove to be vital in the Sharks winning the 2014 *Cup.

Bumping this thread.

Not charged the 250k for drafting one. Still charged the 250k if he boosts.

Seb, going to add Shanahan to the staff file tomorrow. Ironic pick, considering the mark he's currently leaving on the NHL.
