Montreal - Tampa Bay

Post by Montreal Canadiens »

To Tampa Bay: F Max Pacioretty [82], D Kim Johnsson [79]
To Montreal: F David Clarkson [70], D Sheldon Souray [72], MTL 2nd Rd 2013

Confirmed. Adding a draft pick is always good. Going to miss Max Pax very much, he was a huge part of my 3rd line last season, but added offense up front to the top 9 made him a tad expendable. In return I get a replacement 4th line forward, as well upgrade Johnsson with Souray for one full year of duty. Thanks Justin and good luck man.

With the salaries, I gain roughly $500K in this deal, which is fine as I had almost $1.4M in cap space.

Accepted.

While in a perfect word a balanced deal would of been a 3rd instead of a 2nd, but I've don't have mine this year or next. Pacioretty is another long term project, not unlike Ryan Stoa with his "cementblock4skatesitus" condition. However, 2-3 seasons of physic training should produce a very solid power forward with decent offensive upside for a 4th line grinder. He'll get the chance to play top 6 minutes the next few years, which should accelerate his development.

Clarkson is tough to deal with his 88 FI and very reasonable contract. However, he lost his long term spot on my 3rd line to Schwartz/Larsson and Pacy is a much better fit on my 4th line that uses HNG. I'll have Tinordi, Caputi and most of all Klingberg (projected 99 FI) so I can afford to lose an enforcer. A 4th line of all power forwards with 89 HIT sounds really awseome. The Souray/Johnsson swap began the negotiations of the deal, I have no problem losing some aging talent in the short term.

I'm out of the sprint, but looking to win the marathon :)
