NHL Draft Chatter

Post by Virtual Jarmo »

Start it off with this Tweet I just saw

RT @dantencer: Just spoke w Tambellini again. Tells me to get ready for a crazy Friday. Says players will drop, make a lot of teams happy.

Who are you guys hoping for with your team's draft picks?

I'd hope to see the Habs get a big guy like Jamieson Oleksiak... we'll see..

I think the Oilers should go with Nugent, fuck Larsson.

Sounds good to me with the Avs picking at 11 as well.

I don't see how Columbus can pass on Ryan Murphy if he's there. They need skill, whether it's at F or D.

I'd love to see the Habs trade up for Huberdeau!

I would like to see the Canucks get somebody like Brandon not so Saad. Or Jensen. If Boone Jenner could fix his skating he'd be a great fit too. Somebody with size, strength, skating, and hands, and is gritty also.

Drafting up to draft Couturier would be lovely, but highly unlikely.

Yeah, he'll drop to 30th overall so I can have a blueline of Larsson-Ekman-Larsson. :D

I refuse to get excited about the Leafs picks until a) they actually get picked, rather than traded and b) they turn out into decent NHL players before being traded for the rotting corpse of Owen Nolan or Lee fucking Stempniak or goddamn Andrew Raycroft.

You were probably so excited when you guys got Kessel.

No, I thought Burke was pretty dumb for offering more than the max salary in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick bracket. Then I thought he was dumb for giving Kessel to 5.4 million/year but only signing him until exactly the year he turns UFA. Lame.

Interesting...

@darrendreger: Sources say Robyn Regehr has been asked to waive his no-move clause and accept a trade to the Buffalo Sabres. Details to follow.

For Voracek, 1st, 3rd.

Many GM's have said this is pretty much trade deadline day sometimes. Lol.

Huge move for both teams.
Jungle Cats

Re: NHL Draft Chatter

Post by Jungle Cats »

nice deal for both. CBJ gets another crack at a top line center, Philly gets one of the 'big 8' or whatever they're calling the top group, and Voracek should be near replacement value for Carter, given the depth of Philly's forwards.

Re: NHL Draft Chatter

and uh... I just don't know what to make of Richards to LA.

Kind of a blow-up in Philly.
Montreal Canadiens

Re: NHL Draft Chatter

Post by Montreal Canadiens »

Crazy. LA makes out great in that deal. Simmonds isn't more than a 3rd liner, and Schenn looked good in the WJC, so we'll see what PHI gets out of him.

All that just to be able to sign Brysgalov to some redonkulous 9 year contract......I don't get it.

Apparently Holmgren wanted Kadri and Kulemin for Richards, probably to start. Well, too bad. I don't think the Leafs can afford to make 2 for 1 type deals like that... though it may backfire if Brad Richards signs elsewhere.

Kadri and Kulemin over Mike Richards? Really?

Yeah really. Kulemin scored 30 goals last season and Kadri's still a top prospect; they would have wanted a 1st on top of that. The Leafs aren't one top center away from being a Cup contender, they're a top center away from being a 7th-8th seed. It doesn't make sense to do a 3-for-1 deal like that (remember the Kessel trade?), especially given that the 2012 draft is supposed to be quite good.
Montreal Canadiens

Re: NHL Draft Chatter

Post by Montreal Canadiens »

I would have done Kadri and Kulemin, but a 1st included with the two would have been overkill. Hearing rumblings of Ryan Smyth being traded to CGY. Pure oddity to picture him in a Flamer jersey.

Hearing it's Boston's 2012 as well, making it a likely low 2nd...looks like a great deal for TO.

Re: NHL Draft Chatter

Not like I expected Liles to bring much of a return, but he's got to be worth more to the Avs than a 2012 2nd... plus the poor guy has to be a Leaf.

What happens with the retired numbers of Hull and Steen? Are they moved BACK from Phoenix to Winnipeg? They should retire Hawerchuk's number.

And what about the franchise stats leaders? Does Winnipeg take those and Phx makes their own(Probably Doan all across the board)?

I think it's a dumb move by the Leafs. Liles is an average defensemen who get's all his points from PP time, and is signed at $4.2M per season. Apparently they wanted him at trade deadline......as Elliote Friedman says....what the heart wants...I guess the heart wants.

What are the chances that they get more of an impact in three years from BOS 2nd than they do from Liles in the present? 25-30%? If that's the case, it's a wise move. The cap's not an issue for the Leafs.

I also look at it that Liles most likely isn't going to be on the Leafs past his current deal. Meaning you gave up that youngster with your 2nd pick, who could turn into a star, sometimes the best picks have came from the later ones. You trade away a possible young nhl contributor say, for 1 year of JM Liles? I really don't see the Leafs wanting to re-up him at more than $4.2M, especially after he'll prob shit the bed this year.

I'm not sure of either's L/R handiness but a Dion/J.M pairing doesn't sound so horrible for a top combo, and I HATE the Leafs :P

Meh, I'm pretty indifferent about Liles. As long as it's BOS 2nd and not TOR 2nd it's not a huge overpayment and hell, he could possibly fetch more than that at the next deadline if Burke is so inclined.
