5QF - 6/3/11

Post by Virtual Jarmo »

What the hell, it's been a while.

1. What are you looking to accomplish for your team with the 2011 EHEC Entry Draft?

2. Best band of the 90s that is no longer releasing albums/playing big shows?

3. In light of the biting thread, what's the worst thing you can do to an opposing player on the ice?

4. Any big summer plans?

5. In light of Jack Kevorkian's death, agree/disagree with his practice of assisted suicide? Why/why not?

1. What are you looking to accomplish for your team with the 2011 EHEC Entry Draft?
Haven't really scouted yet, so I dunno what's likely to be available when it comes to the first round. I'm amenable to trading it or trying to move up (HINT HINT), especially if I can re-stock with a quality D prospect. After the 1st, I'll look for the BPA.

2. Best band of the 90s that is no longer releasing albums/playing big shows?
PRIMUS

3. In light of the biting thread, what's the worst thing you can do to an opposing player?
Homicide. Okay, the worst that has actually happened? Maybe doing something to an unsuspecting opponent, like what Cormier did in the QMJHL a couple years ago.

4. Any big summer plans?
Going to a cabin/house on the "beach" (LOL) here in Maine for a week in July. Otherwise, a conference in Chicago in August.

5. In light of Jack Kevorkian's death, agree/disagree with his practice of assisted suicide? Why/why not?
Agree with it. Because I think you should have control over how you live and die, if you're not hurting someone else. Funny how most people who opposed Kevorkian (and abortion, for that matter), and want both legislated away forever, are the same people who'll turn right around and say "Keep the guv'mint out of my life!"

1. What are you looking to accomplish for your team with the 2011 EHEC Entry Draft? Not much, as of now I don't have a pick in the top 90.

2. Best band of the 90s that is no longer releasing albums/playing big shows? Nirvana.

3. In light of the biting thread, what's the worst thing you can do to an opposing player? Stomping/kicking.

4. Any big summer plans? Going to Italy end of next month.

5. In light of Jack Kevorkian's death, agree/disagree with his practice of assisted suicide? Why/why not? Agree, although in only the rarest of circumstances. I think its impossible to have a theorem that can determine whether someone's quality of life is no longer worth living, but situations do exist where I believe it should be allowed. Million dollar baby ftw.*

What a dark ending to 5QF :P

1. Hopefully see some people pick off of my board (read: take some POT boosters!) and get someone ranked in my top 20. But really it's just about improving the team, even if it means trading away the 1st rounder for the second year in a row.

2. I don't know if I'd call them best because their last album was somewhat lame, but Spacehog was pretty good.

3. Uh.. golf swing at the neck followed by a Bertuzzi?

4. Going to a conference in Durham (the UK one) 8-)

5. Agree. The only negative I see is the potential for abuse, but pressuring people into suicide is already illegal anyways. Otherwise, adults should be free to make their own decisions.

1. I've got a few players I like, and depending on who gets taken 1-2, I may trade down.
2. Powerman 5000. Haven't heard much from them lately, but they're awesome.
3. Probably a baseball bat swing.
4. Not much with my research project taking up my time. Might head to Vegas for a weekend or two though.
5. Agree I guess.

1. What are you looking to accomplish for your team with the 2011 EHEC Entry Draft?

Went all defense this year, looking offense on the wings this year.

2. Best band of the 90s that is no longer releasing albums/playing big shows?

The Black Crowes. Highly underrated band.

3. In light of the biting thread, what's the worst thing you can do to an opposing player on the ice?

To not sound repetitive, I'll go slewfoot. Cheap and highly dangerous.

4. Any big summer plans?

Nah, wife has a week off in July and one in August. We're looking at some options.

5. In light of Jack Kevorkian's death, agree/disagree with his practice of assisted suicide? Why/why not?

Agree. Having no quality of life and being in constant pain would be horrible. That said, I couldn't appreciate the will to die until I was in that position. Also, for those bored, find a torrent or something of HBO's You Don't Know Jack. Pacino played Kevorkian and it was outstanding.

1. What are you looking to accomplish for your team with the 2011 EHEC Entry Draft?
Got to take care of my extensions first, haha. Maybe make a deal for a top-6 winger.

2. Best band of the 90s that is no longer releasing albums/playing big shows?
Oasis

3. In light of the biting thread, what's the worst thing you can do to an opposing player on the ice?
The whole NHL is a shitshow, it's hard to say. I know high sticking and hitting from behind is an automatic left hook to the temple or neck.

4. Any big summer plans?
I'd like to leave Michigan forever.

5. In light of Jack Kevorkian's death, agree/disagree with his practice of assisted suicide? Why/why not?
Don't have a problem with it.

1. What are you looking to accomplish for your team with the 2011 EHEC Entry Draft?
Maybe stay on the board a bit more this year. I owe Panthers fans that much.

2. Best band of the 90s that is no longer releasing albums/playing big shows?
Pavement? Maybe Nirvana, fine.

3. In light of the biting thread, what's the worst thing you can do to an opposing player on the ice?
butt-ending is low, stomping is worse, bertuzzi-ing is worse still.

4. Any big summer plans?
i need a job. going back to the okanagan for peach season, hopefully.

5. In light of Jack Kevorkian's death, agree/disagree with his practice of assisted suicide? Why/why not?
strong support. i can see the plethora of opportunities for abuse, but the system they have in Oregon doesn't go far enough (one has to be well enough to physically lift poison to their own lips) in providing a dignified death. certainly a tricky thing to codify/legislate though.

1. What are you looking to accomplish for your team with the 2011 EHEC Entry Draft?

- i think having a goalie (any goalie) prospect might be a good idea at some point. also, can use some playmakers

2. Best band of the 90s that is no longer releasing albums/playing big shows?

- ARCHERS OF LOAF

3. In light of the biting thread, what's the worst thing you can do to an opposing player on the ice?

- spitting is a near-capital offense in my book. i am pretty much okay with any physical response by the spit-ee

4. Any big summer plans?

- marquette university 20 year reunion class of '91! i am gonna be hammered-drunk...crunk, if you will. also, might (key word might) be able to take family out to cape cod this year

5. In light of Jack Kevorkian's death, agree/disagree with his practice of assisted suicide? Why/why not?

against; Kevorkian was a pretty sick puppy. a nihilist, really ("nihilists? fuck me" - "The Big Lebowski"). his image was cleaned up and glamorized by those in favor of assisted suicide. as far as the topic goes, i am firmly against, and anything but a holy-roller (to answer an earlier, unfair characterization of those opposed above). i just think if someone wants to off themselves, they don't need their doctor to do it. as Jerry Seinfeld famously quipped: "don't these people have tall buildings where they live?" having your doctor give you the final spike is a bad idea for reasons that should be obvious.

1. What are you looking to accomplish for your team with the 2011 EHEC Entry Draft?

The ol' cliche of Keep improving. Forward, or defense, doesn't matter, but my team does definitely need a 2nd line C.

2. Best band of the 90s that is no longer releasing albums/playing big shows?

Nirvana was pretty good, I don't think they were the 90's but I really miss audioslave.

3. In light of the biting thread, what's the worst thing you can do to an opposing player on the ice?

Few things are pretty bad, I think kicking in the nuts is the worst aka Marty Turco.

4. Any big summer plans?

I work two jobs, what's summer exactly?

Scatman John

Cross check someone center ice going full speed!

Pathetic. Who likes the taste of beer that much that they'd drink non-alcoholic?

Btw, I learned alcoholics are more addicted to the taste of beer than to getting drunk. So, not pathetic at all. Very smart!

1. What are you looking to accomplish for your team with the 2011 EHEC Entry Draft?

Find a fourth defensive horse to go with Bogosian, Pietrangelo, and Gormley. Acquire/develop forwards actually worth top six minutes, see Kozlov, Slava and White, Todd. Hope my top choice is still available at four.

2. Best band of the 90s that is no longer releasing albums/playing big shows?

Soundgarden. They probably released a half-assed album somewhere that I'm forgetting about but that's who came to mind.

3. In light of the biting thread, what's the worst thing you can do to an opposing player on the ice?

Use them for balance because you're a terrible skater and made the poor decision to stop wall grabbing.

4. Any big summer plans?

Assisting Adam with the offseason shenanigans. Probably should have thought this out better huh?

5. In light of Jack Kevorkian's death, agree/disagree with his practice of assisted suicide? Why/why not?

For the terminally ill/suffering, I could see assisted suicide as a sympathetic option. If you're resigned to your soon to come fate a needle of chemicals sounds better than a bullet to the head. Gray area for me is how would/should society determine the people qualified to be "death doctors". In terms of Kevorkian, his practice probably isn't the way it should be done. I doubt it'll be legitimized any time soon because it's such a chore to have people talk about death anyway.

1. What are you looking to accomplish for your team with the 2011 EHEC Entry Draft?
I'd like to emphasize drafting skaters with high consistency and hitting ability, so I have to avoid Russians and players under 6' (I can imagine Adam rolling his eyes reading this). So WTF do I do if Namestnikov or Khokhlachev are still on the board at 28?

2. Best band of the 90s that is no longer releasing albums/playing big shows?
Tupac

4. Any big summer plans?
Work, beach, beer, sun. Gotta enjoy the summer while I can before grad school in September.

5. In light of Jack Kevorkian's death, agree/disagree with his practice of assisted suicide? Why/why not?
I haven't given it much thought, honestly. But I think it should be legalized, at least for the terminally ill who want that option. Letting someone live in such pain for long is way more inhumane than ending their life (if they wanted it), IMO.

Yes, government needs to back off, especially in America. We could argue forever about when life begins or conversely if assisted suicide is playing God/the Flying Spaghetti Monster. On the abortion issue, I won't be picketing outside of a Planned Parenthood with grotesque photos. However, that same place shouldn't be funded with taxpayer money under the guise of "women's health". Government shouldn't legislate these things away, but don't fund the deed either. Basically, don't fuck irresponsibly if you can't afford the kid or the medical escape door.

Sorry buddy, I don't think Biggs, Zibanejad or even Saad are falling to you :P You might not have picked the best year to try to draft a consistent power forward... at least not if you don't want a pot booster.

Most of the people who consider assisted suicide have trouble even getting out of bed, which is kind of why they're considering suicide in the first place.

Abortion is a women's health issue and also a tiny fraction of what Planned Parenthood does. And you know irresponsible fucking is far from the only reason to get one.

Of course it can be more than just horn dogs being silly and ending up with a decision to make. It really cleans up the situation to call it a women's health issue. A wart on the bottom of my foot shouldn't be the equivalent of a few cells growing in a woman's uterus. Sure it might be a tiny part of what PP does, [not sure how that changes anything about abortion] but they're the US' largest provider.

Nothing in particular. I'll just be drafting whoever I think is the best player available.

2. Best band of the 90s that is no longer releasing albums/playing big shows?
Nirvana.

3. In light of the biting thread, what's the worst thing you can do to an opposing player on the ice?
What Bertuzzi did to Moore was as bas as I've ever seen. There've been a couple of stick-swinging incidents that were pretty brutal too. At least nobody has pulled the Happy Gilmore move of trying to stab someone with their skate.

4. Any big summer plans?
Going to Vancouver for Canada Day to see a NOFX show. Sometime this summer we're going to try to make it to Winnipeg to see family and hopefully Toronto for a couple of Jays games.

5. In light of Jack Kevorkian's death, agree/disagree with his practice of assisted suicide? Why/why not?
Agree. I'm a libertarian; I disagree that the government should even be passing laws on the legality of suicide.
