ATL to WPG; Re-alignment

Post by Virtual Jarmo »

Who knows if this will actually happen...but consider this. If ATL moves to the Peg, Minnesota moves to the Central Division. Then, Columbus or Nashville moves to the Southeast. Imagine a Southeast Division in EHEC of Tampa, Carolina, Washington, and Columbus.

Might as well use this as the parent thread for all of the potential relocation/re-alignment chatter.

Tampa, Carolina, Washington, and Columbus would be epic.

Please, please, please let this happen. Naturally, I'd never be able to defeat a loaded Phoenix squad.

Great, so I can look forward to a 115 point season seeding 4th in the SE and 6th in the conference?

what does it matter rly? other then home ice in PO (count me as someone that doesn't think it matters to much in EHM/irl), if your the best team in the league/cup champs you should be able to beat anyone anytime. i guess you could argue having to play longer series against better teams wearing on your team, but those are the fun ones to watch anyway.

Columbus won't be moving to the Southeast as per TSN Dreger and B-Mac it would be Nashville.

Columbus needs it more. I think it's a mistake. If Bettman's so anti-relocation, he should know this. Columbus needs the draw of Crosby and Ovechkin more than Nashville does. Not to mention, CBJ fans might give a shit if road games start at 7 on TV instead of 9 and 10 pm.

Big mistake for the future of hockey in Columbus.

Well at the same time you have to look at it this way. Nashville has an oustanding fan base, and to me, they're going to follow that team no matter what. By relocating them conference wise, they are still going to pull in strong numbers.

With that being said, I honestly doubt any re-location happens. I'd be surprised. Especially since I don't see where the huge draw from Winnipeg comes from. They've tried before, and failed.

Like choosing between herpes and syphilis. Atlanta's a bad hockey market and the team is locked in a HORRIBLE arena agreement. They tried working the black angle with some of the black players they've added, but it's just not going to work.

The novelty of Winnipeg will sustain itself for 5-10 years and then they'll be in the same spot again. Or so I assume.

They're the only city really vying for a team. The NHL doesn't want to have to take over ATL like they did PHX. The board and the owners won't stand for it again.

I like the comments on Bill Daly on all of the 'behind the scenes' work they've done to keep the team in Atlanta. Yeah, sure. They've fought tooth and nail to keep Phoenix afloat to the point of literally taking control of them team; but the even bigger market of Atlanta doesn't deserve any help because...?

Gotta be nashville, it's the only team that would make any sense in the 'southeast' -
I'm pro-Peg, I just hate the idea of the Avs getting bumped from the Northwest, which I've always heard is more likely than Minny moving (proximity to Winnipeg). That means a lot less Avs on TV. Minnesota can go - they're closer to that little cluster called the 'central' anyway. (I guess I can empathize with Adam about start times... course, I live on the coast...)

Too bad about atlanta really, they could've built something there, the franchise didn't endear itself with a decade of shooting itself in the foot - this was the year to turn the corner, I guess - and they have a lovely arena. Does seem odd where the league will bend over backwards and then some to save a team... and then look the other way. Not big on Atlanta bowing out, would've preferred they fix the phoenix problem - which isn't going away.

Why would Winnipeg want some debt stricken franchise like Atlanta or Phoenix?

Cheaper to buy then setup a new franchise and revenues will be higher there

Revenues don't mean shit when team is already in debt before even playing a game.

What happens when this 2nd chance fails?

Looks like I'll be editing config_teams.ehm, arenas, and logos again.

Congratulations Winnipeg. I hope it still works after the novelty wears off.

Pretty surreal, rocking my game worn Bob Essensa jersey right now. I remember crying myself to sleep when they were leaving, this feels pretty good. :D

ESS-EN-SA THE SAVE!

Hey Atlanta, want to trade franchises? I took Phoenix over Calgary primarily because I thought there was a good chance the Coyotes would move back. I never expected it to be a DIFFERENT team relocating. :P

Winnipeg playing in the Southeast division smells like Phoenix (or another franchise) might be moving as well before 12/13, not surprisingly.

Pfff, if the Peg can average 1st or 2nd in AHL attendance each year I'm sure with the ticket prices they announced they can sell out every night or close to. Then, Bettman can't do shit.

That was the idea, actually. Trade franchises - all players, prospects, and draft picks go with them.

Especially if I win the Cup this year - after that there'll be nowhere to go but down and a rebuilding franchise would actually be a lot more fun than just trying to stay on top. :)

Yeah. That's a pretty insensitive and rude thing to say, Toronto. Why would you want a Winnipeg-based NHL team to fail?

I never said I wanted it to fail. I want Bettman to fail.

Is it true they are asking season ticket holders to commit for 7 years?

I think the absolute failure of the franchises in Atlanta and Phoenix make Bettman look like a pretty big idiot since he's the one who orchestrated those moves in the first place. That's the reason it's taking so long for these obvious mistakes to be corrected; Bettman has been doing everything in his power to keep the teams in towns where nobody gives a shit about hockey because letting them move back north is tantamount to admitting that his entire tenure as league commissioner has been a failure. I would be willing to bet that Winnipeg's NHL team sticks around longer than Gary Bettman remains NHL Commissioner.

As for the seven-year commitment, I honestly have no idea. What's the usual commitment for season tickets, one year at a time or what?

No, there r options to commit between 3-5 years for the same seats. This also caps the yearly increase in cost at 3%.
