Plekanec 60
Johns 72
Mtl 1st 2011

Hemsky 80
Edm 2nd 2011
Plekanec is the salary toss in. Been looking to move Hemmer, and finally got it done. Pick up another 1st rounder which will help the rebuild.
Accept. - Oilers Salary should be ok with addition of Hannan earlier.
Johns 72

Re: Edmonton - Montreal
Approved.
For a little explanation since we took a fair amount of time on this deal, Johns is a recent first round pick projected to be over 80 DF. Projecting a gap of anywhere from 20-28 picks, give or take, between MTL 1st and EDM 2nd, is a substantial difference in a draft that I self-proclaimed to be weaker than last year's extremely deep draft. Plekanec's purpose is clear. The stumbling block was the EDM 2nd, but we feel confident enough in the gap between picks and the weaker draft that the value is there for this deal.
Also taken in to account, was that Hemsky will be up for arbitration after next season and with his attributes, comparables, and production, he will be due a substantial raise. In our new highly cap-conscious financial system, things such as this can no longer be overlooked in trade discussions.
