Official Olympic Interest Thread
Who's interested in GMing an Olympic team? It will be done completely at random, as will the players for each team. I'm not sure on all the details yet, but I would like to know how many teams will need to be made.
Edit: The countries involved: USA, CAN, RUS, SWE, FIN, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, probably Switzerland.
However many GMs we have, we will add an extra team to the first four countries. Maybe a second Czech team as well.
Also, for what it's worth, I am not taking a team.

Re: Official Olympic Interest Thread
Here's another question. Do we want to take all of Canada and make multiple teams or go by region, or by province, or something like that?

As awesome as we are, Newfoundland wouldn't field much of a team I don't think. I think having an Atlantic/East team would be cool, Cleary and Crosby make a great duo.
Re: Official Olympic Interest Thread
I'm down with having a Canada West, Mid-Canada, Canada East format...or go by province and let Crysby sit out this one.Commissioner (CBJ) wrote:Here's another question. Do we want to take all of Canada and make multiple teams or go by region, or by province, or something like that?

I'm gonna pass on GMing an Olympic team. Not really my thing. Knock yourselves out, guys.

For those who are declining, please try your best to stay active during the break. I'm passing, and might even talk to my Committee about not simming during that period, so I can focus all my energies on the draft. Pat (NYR) has been compiling the career.car stat lines, which will be an enormous help to me as I keep plugging along.

Re: Official Olympic Interest Thread
I will GM or Pass - basically if there is a team i'll do that - or I can help with the draft in anyway i can.
Re: Official Olympic Interest Thread
I'm in the same boat as Chris here. I was flip-flopping, but I might as well put my name out there. If we need another GM I'll fill a spot.

Re: Official Olympic Interest Thread
Tomorrow night at 9 pm will be the deadline for this. Anybody not voicing interest will be shutout. For those who are on the fence, I will look at how many teams we have and decide from there.
For those who are in, since it looks like I won't have to make multiple teams per country, I will put in the real-life Olympic rosters to mirror realism. Ongoing theme, I know.
Chris (EDM) and Andrew (CGY) would make GMs #9 and #10.

Re: Official Olympic Interest Thread
So, I'll be starting this shortly. The way I'm going to do it is by sending all of the players on EHM teams 1-12 (ANA-EDM) down to the minors. Then, I will rename them in config_teams.ehm starting with Canada, and going down the line.
There are 9 guys who gave me definites.
Here's the list of guys definites:
Tim (WSH)
Ryan (PHI)
Brad (MTL)
Matt (PIT)
Chad (MIN)
Garrick (DAL)
Mike (BOS)
Dave (NYI)
Vic (OTT)
Maybe:
Chris (EDM)
Andrew (CGY)
So, if the two maybes decide to take teams, I will need one more GM to make an even 12. I will then break them down into the real-life pools. The top 4 teams will get a bye into the quarters. The other 8 teams will play (5 v. 12, 6 v. 11, 7 v. 10, 8 v. 9). The winner of those games will move on. Then, the semis will go (1 v. 8, 2 v. 7, 3 v. 6, 4 v. 5). Then the medal round of the highest seed v. the lowest seed and the second-highest v. the second-lowest, and then the Gold Medal and Bronze medal games. The schedule will obviously be edited depending on the winners, so it will be a work in progress.
The teams will be: USA, CAN, RUS, SWE, FIN, CZE, Slovakia, Germany, Switzerland, Latvia, Belarus, Norway
If someone wants that 12th team and Chris and Andrew can confirm that they are in, I can draw names for teams.
Outside of Ovechkin, I can't remember if any Olympic players are injured. I have not yet decided if I will uninjure Ovechkin to allow him to play or not. By the end of the tournament, Ovechkin would be healthy for the regular season again anyway. But, to mirror realism of actual Olympians injured, we may decide to keep him injured.
Same can be said for players injured during the Games.
I will be doing this in a separate savefile and then I'll transfer over the box scores and update the career.car of the players involved. Last thing I want to do is mess up the main league file.

Re: Official Olympic Interest Thread
Alright, so, Ryan and I decided that to adhere to realism, players currently injured will not be uninjured. I will contact the team GM to name a replacement. The same goes for teams who are short players due to them not being in the file.
Also, injuries sustained within the Olympics will be carried over to the EHEC file. We will lower the slider for injury a little bit, but they will carry over. We will up the scoring slider as well.

Re: Official Olympic Interest Thread
Just an update, I've got 9 teams down. Three to go. Ryan's already put the round robin schedule together. Just gotta drop that in the file.
There were only 9 Norwegians in the file, so I edited draft-eligibles into Norwegians. I'm too lazy to go back and fix the ages so most of them are 17. Only 18 Latvians so I edited some draftees to be Latvians. I fixed most of their ages.
Anyway, everything is almost ready to go. Two things of note for GMs. First of all, in the Olympic zip file will be the updated config_teams.ehm, arena pictures, and logos. I will include a notepad file explaining how to overwrite everything. If you don't overwrite things, you will have run-time errors and EHM will automatically close.
If you are in multiple leagues, be aware of what the changes will do to your other league. I would back up the current files before overwriting them. I have backed up the EHEC logos, arena pictures, config_teams.ehm and all that other shit. It will be zipped daily in the EHEC file. The EHEC file will be updated and uploaded every day as well.
What I suggest everyone do is start a new game file using the most recent EHEC file. Save the new file 'Olympics' and then you can just overwrite it with the one we will be uploading. Remember that config_teams.ehm is in the main EHM directory.
Second thing of note: Ryan and Nick will be simming the Olympics while I do the draft class. I will be handling the main EHEC file. So, if your PM/line changes pertain to the Olympics, send the PM to both Nick (Tuo-SabresGM) and Ryan (BSBullies). The email for lines will remain the same. If you're sending EHEC training, coaching changes, etc., send those PMs to me. Again, the EHEC file will also be zipped and posted daily.
Remember that the Olympics start tomorrow night. So if you get Canada, US, Russia, Latvia Norway, or Switzerland...you play tomorrow.

Re: Official Olympic Interest Thread
Here we go, the moment everyone's been waiting for. My fiancee picked the names out of a hat, so I can assure you there was no favoritism played.
The teams were picked in order of responding to the thread.
Brad (MTL): Slovakia
Tim (WSH): Canada
Ryan (PHI): Belarus
Matt (PIT): Russia
Chad (MIN): Norway
Garrick (DAL): Sweden
Mike (BOS): Switzerland
Dave (NYI): Czech Republic
Chris (Sebastien (NSH) if Chris declines) (EDM): United States
Andrew (CGY): Finland
Vic (OTT): Germany
Pat (NYR): Latvia
The schedule is the exact same schedule of the Olympics.
I will be contacting the teams with injuries to see who their injury/missing player replacements will be.
