EHEC Free Agent Frenzy; Offseason Schedule
Strap in for a long post. Strap on if you're Femur.
The rollover occurs on the advance from the 20th to the 21st. So, consider today June 18. Tomorrow June 19. Wednesday June 20. In other words, if you want your prospects to have a chance at boosting, I suggest you get your contract offers in today or tomorrow. I will sim the 18th tonight, the 19th tomorrow, and then the 20th on Wednesday. After the rollover, I will advance the file through to 8/29 so that free agents show up in their proper place. The file will sit on 8/29 until, well, 8/29.
Here's the updated file, draft results and trades in: http://www.ehechockey.com/EHEC.zip (for those just downloading config_teams.ehm and the pictures folder, just copy/paste them in to your main Program Files/EHM folder)
For signing prospects, please look at the draft slotting chart in the Rulebook or just post default contract. I'll assume most of the prospect offers to be for boosters right now, but just put a * after the player's name if he is a booster, as he requires the 250,000 base salary increase for being a booster. Please don't make my blood pressure go up by offering $400,000. Remember that options are no longer permissible for entry level contracts, which all of these guys are on. ELCs include two-ways by default.
------------------------------------
Next item of business. Unrestricted free agency will start on Thursday. I will have the newly-updated file with all of the free agents in their proper place by then. Also, be aware of team options on your players. Let me know if you accept them or not.
Familiarize yourself with all of the free agent rules and regulations as they have definitely changed since last year. There will be another rule change posted to free agency later today in regards to the 80% previous year's salary rule as it pertains to guys who are essentially 3rd/4th liners or 5th-7th D. Remember that bids are submitted privately to the Free Agents account. Everything else you need to know is in the Rulebook under Free Agency. Use this thread for any questions you may have.
For GMs who requested only to make qualifying offers to their players, I will offer those and they will be RFAs, subject to RFA bidding later in the summer. I think the RFA bidding is like August 20 or something IRL, can't remember off the top of my head. But RFA bidding will be later, though, if it;'s anything like last year, there won't be much.
-----------------------------------
Some of you have asked me about the 8.1.11 banner and the main page website. For those very observant ones who have asked if we are getting a new website, the answer is yes. Quinn has been very hard at work basically learning php on the fly and what I have seen so far has been nothing short of incredible. I won't go in to specifics just yet, but we are still shooting for a launch date of August 1, and plan on adding and editing minor details after the site release. It is going to completely change the way we do things around here but in a way that is very user friendly and GM-convenient. I'm stoked about it and I think all of you will be highly impressed and I think it will help lessen GM turnover as well as increase activity.
-----------------------------------
Draft reviews will be due by Thursday at 11:59 pm ET. In order to be eligible for the rewards associated with the draft review, you must review all players drafted, giving a brief scouting report on them and why you took them. These are meant to be fun ways of creating activity and enhancing the overall atmosphere of the boards. Include trades completed during the draft. These rewards are TBA on Thursday. Only applicable to 2011 Draftees.
As for the draft previews, the rewards will be 10 leadership points to any one player and an additional 5 ceiling points to each of two players with less than 7 POT (if only one, an additional 8 ceiling points to that player). So, you can add 5 ceiling points to two of your 6 POT prospects or 8 ceiling points if you drafted just one 6 or 5 POT player. If you wish to use ceiling points on a booster, you are only allowed 5 total ceiling points for the draft preview. So, you would forfeit the chance to add 5 ceiling points to another player. Only applicable to 2011 Draftees.
I will make a GM Memos thread post for teams to post the players they wish to use these on and what attributes they want the ceiling increases to.
LE develops VERY slowly in the EHM world, so adding 10 points will give the player of your choice a good head start. For the ceiling points, I assume the only way to do this logically would be to add all 5 to one attribute, but if for whatever reason you wish to split them up 3 and 2, you can.
---------------------------------
I am begging you to stay active over the next 2 months. I know this is our downtime and not a whole lot is going on. I'd like for free agency to be active, despite a somewhat thin market, and I certainly want you to take advantage of getting used to the new website during August. The new website will be far more interactive than what we currently have, so there will be some things to get used to.
Along those same lines, we are looking in to incorporating a php chat on the forums which would be up all the time. Ideally, this chat would include a Who's Online list when signed in to the forums. However, much of what Quinn has found has cost money. If you guys want to volunteer to throw in some scratch for one of these, I'm all for adding it to the forums. I don't know how much money we're talking about, but I assume it would be a small fee, maybe $5-10/year per interested GM (assuming 10-15 would be interested).
We can re-open the hosting donations topic if we want, though I would never openly ask or expect the GMs to help out. If you have the means and wish to help lessen the costs for my Committee members and me, you know it would be appreciated.
I will probably update this thread throughout the week leading up to FA and with explanations of some of the harder to understand FA rules, but for now, if you're still reading, thanks.

LOL good stuff man! I'm stoked for the new website. Thanks Quinny.
How much are your hosting fees again? Do you pay them alone?
I, personally, don't think the chat box is worth spending money. PM/MSN is more than fine! But, that's just me.

$42 every 6 months. Was split three-way with Ryan, Nick, and I. Haven't quite figured out what I'll do when it's due again in mid-Sept.Penguin wrote:How much are your hosting fees again? Do you pay them alone?

Ya, I like Bern's idea of everyone just taking turns. I'll get the next one after Bern. Do they accept VISA?

It's set up to take it straight from my bank account. You guys can Paypal me the money. If you don't trust me, for whatever reason, I'll look it to it.Tampa Bay GM wrote:Ya, I like Bern's idea of everyone just taking turns. I'll get the next one after Bern. Do they accept VISA?
It's really not necessary one person to pay it all. I, and everyone else in the league, greatly appreciate it, but it's really not necessary. I'd rather you guys split it or have it split 3 or 4 ways or something. Makes me feel like I'm creating a burden.
But, for volunteering to pay any portion of it, I'm grateful and even slightly overwhelmed.

Re: EHEC Free Agent Frenzy; Offseason Schedule
Looks like you can setup a paypal account, then deposit $ from VISA --> paypal. Obv I'm way to lazy to do it now, but maybe me and Bern can split the next one in Sept? $21 USD doesn't sting to much, plus the idea of the person who puts the most man hours into the league constantly footing the bill doesn't seem right.

I was talking with Quinn a bit and the website sounds awesome. Can't wait. I'm definitely up for helping you out with the website costs as well.
Also, perhaps re-visit that idea of a small summer tourney? I'm up for helping you run it, you would just have to put it together for me.

Maybe. Small window at the end of August to potentially do it, but I'll probably be out of of town almost the entire third week of August. Wife's got her end-of-summer vacation and we're probably going camping. So it'd be complete no access.Montreal Canadiens wrote:Also, perhaps re-visit that idea of a small summer tourney? Then the EHM-generated preseason starts early in September.
Tough to fit it in, but we can gauge interest.

Summer tourny means even more work for Adam.
But, I love the idea. Combining 2 teams together! Bub's Rangers & Parker's Yotes vs Justin's Bolts & Brad's Habs, etc. With a round robin.

Re: EHEC Free Agent Frenzy; Offseason Schedule
Decided against any rule changes to FA. I will be updating the Rulebook tomorrow, along with simming through the rollover. I'll probably sim a few days after and then stop the file to allow teams to make decisions on team options. Player options will be notified in the Contract Offers forum.
Boosters that signed: Yuen (SJ), Sefton (PHI), Liedes (CBJ), Serville (PHX).
The rest have one more day to sign and then we'll have to wait for them to boost next year.

Re: EHEC Free Agent Frenzy; Offseason Schedule
For a quick free agent primer...
1. PM all bids to the Free Agents account.
2. All offers must be at minimum 75% of the player's previous year salary. Obviously, for guys who make under $500,000, the minimum is $400,000. That's still our league minimum though the NHL's is slightly over that.
3. Three bids per team on the same player.
4. Six year max or five plus TO for all offers.
5. Cannot bid on players you let go to FA.
6. Send INDIVIDUAL PMs for each player, titled with the player's name. Don't send one big PM with multiple players. Whoever is checking the PM inbox needs to know what player it is in case they are also bidding on that player. If it's one big PM, they're going to see your offer and know what they have to beat.
7. Bid must stand as the high bid for 18 hours. 12 seemed too low given time zone differences. Could go back to 12 if it becomes an issue.
8. Max bid is 11.6M (20% of cap). I doubt we see this.
Winning bids are determined by highest total salary. The exception is in the case of something like 6 years at 400,000 per v. 2 years at 1M per. The exception is written as yearly salary is 49% or more less than the next highest offer. So, if an offer is 2 years at 1M per v. 1 year at 2M per, the 1 year contract will win because the yearly salary is 50% less.
Any other questions, post them now.

What happens if a player remains unsigned by the start of the regular season, will that "must be 75% of last seasons contract" rule remain?

Well like I said, he'd just have to edit the schedule and I'd do all the simming + entering lines, etc to make it happen. Not sure I like the sounds of that matchup now that Justin has sold the farm.Penguin wrote:Summer tourny means even more work for Adam.![]()

Free agency will start at 12 pm EST. With the 18 hour time on winning bids, this should not be a factor for you, Mike Walters, who I know will gripe that it starts at 9 am for you.

Since I'll have to stop the file before the summer goes through so teams can decide on team options, the best way for you to see who is available in free agency is to go to the players tab. Click the search with filter box in the bottom right corner and search all players with 1 yr contracts. Except for the players with Team/Player Options, that is your free agent class.

Re: EHEC Free Agent Frenzy; Offseason Schedule
Let me clarify something briefly. When I say highest total salary wins, potential salary from a team/player option is NOT included in that. Because teams would just add Team Options to increase the total salary and then simply decline them. So, the highest total salary is only for guaranteed contract years.

Since he's getting some action, Mikael Backlund is a RFA, not a UFA. I never figured out how to handle players and qualifying offers well below the salary that they would get from the formula. I would say I put it off, but I genuinely forgot about it.

Changed forum settings to show 50 topics per page, mostly for FA purposes. Will go back to 25 once FA is done cause 50 is just too many. But guys get buried on that second page and no more bidding is done.

Damn lazy jackass prospects signing contracts a day or two after the deadline.
The Southeast is going to learn to fear the Brickley in, like, 3 years when he actually develops into something.

Doesn't Lehtinen have a player option he's going to pick up?

The Southeast is going to learn to fear the Brickley in, like, 3 years when he actually develops into something.
Brickley has 115 shooting ceiling, so what?

Does he? Didn't even look for POs. Too much other shit to worry about than pay attention for that.SharksGM wrote:Doesn't Lehtinen have a player option he's going to pick up?

Lehtinen does have a PO that he will most likely pick up. We will freeze the Lehtinen bidding until he makes a decision. If he declines, 8 hours of the 18 hour window will be complete.

One boost for Brennan Serville - he's on his way. And fuck Joseph Labate for not signing until after the rollover. Fucking prick.

Pretty sure Labate signed. He signed during the rollover I think. Does that still count?Parker wrote:One boost for Brennan Serville - he's on his way. And fuck Joseph Labate for not signing until after the rollover. Fucking prick.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the player has to already be signed before the rollover date. Signing on the rollover date is too late, I think. Can anyone confirm or refute this?Commissioner (CBJ) wrote:Pretty sure Labate signed. He signed during the rollover I think. Does that still count?

I'm pretty sure the prospect has to be signed in order to boost, I've never heard of anyone boosting an unsigned prospect.Parker wrote:I'm not 100% sure, but I think the player has to already be signed before the rollover date. Yeah has to be signed prior to 6.20. Signing on 6.20 doesn't count.
Re: EHEC Free Agent Frenzy; Offseason Schedule
Yeah I knew about the signed/unsigned thing, I just wasn't sure about the latest possible date to have him signed in order to be eligible. Thanks guys.

As expected, Jere Lehtinen has accepted his PO and will not be eligible for free agency.

File is updated. Date is set on 8/29. Reset all retiring players to not retire to save their attributes. FA list is now current. Will rule on pending trades tomorrow.
