As expected, I have decided to make this year's salary cap $58 million, with a cap floor of $42 million. I wanted to have a relatively small increase because the idea of having a better financial system was to force teams in to making decisions rather than just increasing the cap and then giving teams a free ride. That's what the NHL is doing and they're heading for another lockout.
So, with this, I think it's a big enough increase to put teams in some tough positions and an increase that should increase parity among the bottom ten teams and bring them closer to the pack.
Remember that you can be over the cap during the season (or under the cap floor), but by the first game of the regular season, you must be under the cap or above the floor. The floor should no longer be an issue with the draft slotting system.
58 million and 42 million.
