2011 Offseason Updates Thread
I'll put the other thread to rest since it has a lot of playoff stuff in it.
First, I believe I have entered nearly all of the contracts, except for the ones that need clarification from the GMs. When I upload the file tomorrow, please make sure that I got all of your contracts in. If a player's name is in blue on your roster, he's still considering his offer.
Second, I plan to enter some of the arbitration award amounts tomorrow. Remember: Arbitration guarantees a contract. The formula does not. So, guys may still turn down formula-based contracts. The arbitration ones will simply be entered through players.ehm.
Third, as of right now, I have added 37 draftees to the file. I plan to try and get at least 10-15 more in there tomorrow. That would put us at nearly 180. I'm planning on doing around 240 skaters and then probably 25-30 goalies. There are only 10 listed on the European CSB, so it'll probably be the top 20 NA and 10 Euros. That's about how many were in last year's file. I don't know if last year's draft eligibles who weren't drafted get put back in this class or not. If they do, maybe the second time's a charm for them. I have seen a handful of Euro players who were in last year's EHEC class and drafted, but were not in real life.
Fourth, I have no idea when I can input trades in EHM, but I will post rulings tomorrow.
Fifth, thank you guys very much for adhering to my wishes about contracts being posted by Monday. We still have a handful of deadbeat GMs. If they continue to not be around, I will act in the best interest of the team and fire the current GM. Then, we will try to recruit some new guys. If you have anybody to pass this way, please do, just in case.
Sixth, the rule changes are still being discussed. One revolves around AHL goaltenders because with use of the formula, some of them will make too much to play in the AHL. I will either create some kind of exemption for them where they get charged 1.5M toward the cap, but play at their full salary if they get called up or something like that. Others revolve around some additional E5 bonuses that would be effective immediately. These would be defense-based.
Seventh, I will be doing a live draft night chat for the NHL Draft, much like I did last year. I also plan to start our draft at noon the following day. People will be at draft parties or chatting with the EHEC chat or whatever on Friday night, so our draft will start Saturday June 25 at Noon, EST. I will again ask for shortlists if you don't think you will be able to make your pick on time. More will be announced in regards to the draft, including clarification on time limits at a later date.
Eighth, I will be trying to heighten activity in advance of the draft again. Last year was the draft recaps for ceiling points to less-than-7 POT prospects. I don't know what I will give away as incentive this year, but I will do something for a draft/offseason preview, as well as a draft recap. More will be announced on those as we near the draft.
If you're still reading this long ass post, thank you. I think that's all for now. I will upload the file tomorrow with the contracts entered and draftees. I'm still plugging away at getting arbitration cases out to my guys. Be patient with those, but don't be afraid to shoot me a PM/bump your thread if you're afraid I may have forgotten.
Finally, once I start to see where contracts shake out, I will announce the 2011-2012 salary cap.
Finally part deux, along with the upload at some point this year, I will have an updated config_teams.ehm, arenas, and logos folders due to the ATL franchise moving to Winnipeg. For now, all I will have to do is replace Atlanta right where they are. But, when re-alignment happens in 2012-2013, major changes will have to be done to those files.

Go team.
Thankfully re-alignment is another year off... quite the headache, that one.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
Yeah. I would have to move teams around in config_teams.ehm. So basically, let's say that Nashville moves to the East. They would go to where Winnipeg (ATL) was. Say Minnesota moves to the Central. Then they go where Nashville was. And so on and so on. It would be a matter of changing the teams in config_teams.ehm, changing their team and rights numbers in players.ehm. I'd have to re-align stuff like teams.ehm to get the franchise leaders right and all that too.Tampa Bay GM wrote:Any idea on how your actually going to realign things ingame?
A massive pain in the ass basically.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
Probably going to do another handful of draftees and then upload. I finally got all of the fictional guys out. There's 183 from this year's class and apparently 53 or so from last year's class still loitering around in the CSB. I have a list of 60 more shitty FA guys to overwrite. Not totally sure how many I'm going to make from this class. Odds are, I'll have around 250. Top 125 NA, top 100 Euro, 30 goalies.
But, you'll notice in the update that there are no more fictional draftees. The arbitration awards have been posted in players.ehm. Again, check and see if I missed any or missed team options or any of that shit.
I've done 50 draftees so far over the last 3-4 days. Going to shoot for 20-25 more the rest of today.
I'm golfing with Big Fuckin' Femur tomorrow, so there's my reward for slaving away the last four days. One of you guys ought to Paypal me beer money and greens fees.

background: it was filmed at The IX Beerfest this year; and i went Frank The Tank on the event. this vid may have been the least of it...you should've seen what i did with the pickle-on-a-stick and one of the booth honeys. yikes!
one of the funny things about that night was we warmed up at a sports bar (Harpos, for those who know cleveland) and the bartenderess who served us asked us to come back after the beerfest. i literally said, "you don't want us to, trust me. they don't let me out of my box very often and i am gonna make the most of this." nailed that prediction.

Being re-released out in to the wild after 8 (?) years of marriage. Can't blame you. I'm surprised you had pants on.
Also, was the guy with the camera not drinking? That was top notch filming.

you know him: Rick from Amarok and he was sober because he was working the event. he and his production company were filming the event and he asked me to dance for that band who was kinda bombing out there. i don't even think he finished his sentence when i jumped out there.

Heading out now to an all day country music concert where the Indians play. (not my idea)
Anyway, I have four or five arbitration cases to post later tonight/early tomorrow, and I'll advance the file when I get those entered.
Still working on those rule changes and what to do about AHL goaltenders.
Just wanted to update you guys, I know I was invisible yesterday. 18 got rained out, but the sun came out after so we were able to play 9, well, more like 12 since no one was on the course. I still suck at golf.

All contract numbers set to their formula numbers. I've put in the finished arbitration cases, still have a couple left to post tonight.
I hope to do some draftees tomorrow, along with getting more arbitration PMs out. Thanks for your patience with everything.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
Accomplishing what I wanted to do. I've added 16 draftees so far today. The top 125 NA are in there (went to #126 on CSB because one of them was already in the file). So far, the top 93 Euros, but again, I'll have to go a little over to accommodate for Euros drafted last year that are again eligible this year. 207 total as I type this post. Was going to go to 225, not totally sure now, because with ~50 from last year, we're already at ~257 with goalies to go. I'll make the goalie class more competent than last year's, especially in terms of getting some good AHL starters, so if more goalies are drafted, I would think that 265 skaters is way more than enough. Then I'll make my 30 goalies and the draft class will be done.
Sent out an ultimatum email to our deadbeat GMs. We may have openings over the next couple days, so if you've got anybody in mind for the vacancies, please have them apply.

Yes. Draft order is posted in the Entry Draft thread. As usual, 6th and 7th are straight forward by standings, except for the one traded pick in real life prior to the launch of EHEC.Bub(NYR) wrote:Also: are we doing a 7-round draft again this year?

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
I've advanced the file to the 11th. Needless to say, I'm a little bit annoyed by the way that franchise tag contracts are going. The players aren't approving them. I figured the NTCs would take care of the slightly lower offers, but that appears not to be the case. There are two options: I can offer the pre-franchise tag price and then manually lower the salary or just input them through players.ehm. I didn't want to do that because I wanted the players to have to agree to the deals.
That seems like it won't be the case, though.
Trading is open. Those will be ruled upon and inputted tomorrow. I hope to catch the file up tomorrow. I'll have to pause it on the day we get to the EHM Draft Date and not advance it again until our EHEC Draft is complete.
We'll have rule changes for you tomorrow. I'll try and think of how to handle the franchise tag issue. I will also adjust the players.ehm salary numbers tomorrow morning. Right now, I just want to relax and watch some TV. But I'll get more done tomorrow.
Here's the draftees I added:
Dylan Demelo
Anthony Bardaro
Zachery Franko
Jason Cameron
Shane McColgan
Michael King
Fedor Belyakov
Jonatan Nielsen
Linus Froberg
Tomas Pavelka
Sergei Smurov
Vaclav Tomek
Heikki Liedes
Dominic Lammer
Oula Palve
Robert Rooba
Aleksi Rossi
Ivan Kuznetsov
Adding about 10 more skaters and then getting the goalies in the draft class. So, I've got about 40 draftees to go and I should have it done by early next week at the latest.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
One way to handle the franchise tag might be to simply pay the player whatever he wants, but just don't count it towards the salary cap. This could also preclude the need to raise the cap, since this means basically everyone gets an extra $7M or so to play with.
The only downside to this I can see is that one team's 80OA franchise player wouldn't be asking for as much money as another team's 85OA franchise player, so the teams with stronger top ends would get an advantage of a couple million dollars in flexibility.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
Getting a waiver of ~6 million dollars is pretty extreme. It would only exacerbate the problem of some teams getting better deals as a result of having their best/most expensive players up for contract this offseason.
Are these guys rejecting deals even with the max possible bonus offered? I would be inclined to just say that they should have to be offered a high enough salary to accept in-game like any other non-arbitrated contract... but then you can easily make the argument that that lessens the impact of a franchise tag and sort of defeats the purpose.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
I like the max bonus idea. I'll give that a shot. In some cases though, the offer is just too far off. Like Shea Weber for example. I don't know if he agrees to any number since he wants 9M per. But I'll start with max bonuses tomorrow and go forward from there. That's why I didnt sim up to today because it gives me a little wiggle room.
I will make a more detailed post on what you can expect for the lead up to the draft.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
All signed contracts through 6/11 in-game have been set to their exact amounts.
Going to try and finish off the skaters for the draft class and get the top 10 goalies in the file today. Try is the operative word here. It's a beautiful day and I'm trying to resist the urge to go shoot 9 at a local Metroparks course just because I can.
Lots of things coming your way over the next couple days. 3-4 rule changes, an update on the pre-draft calendar and then what we're going to do about the draft. I've had a couple requests to do the first 10-15 picks live, but I can't see everyone being able to get together at one time, especially on a Saturday like when I want to start the draft. Hopefully, things move along smoother than last year. But, again, I'll have more in my pre-draft post later today.

Skaters are done. Went with top 215, since I expect 15-20 goalies drafted and that will limit rollover for next year's class. I'd say it's about the top 124 NA and top 91 Euro, or something along those lines.

Going to upload the file in its current state. Trying to do too many things at once is giving me information overload. I'll get the rest of the trades in tomorrow and then advance the file.

Just in case anyone wanted to scout the goalies tonight. Beyond that, I'll try and organize my thoughts tomorrow and get things done.

So, with franchise tags, if a player doesn't agree, you will have to offer a contract until he does. I'll use max bonus + NTC for all offers. I'll just take 25% off whatever salary the player agrees to.
In other words, the player needs to agree to it. The formula was a baseline, but like I said, not guaranteed. So, we'll have to keep trying until he agrees and then I'll take 25% off that.

I was up to 9M with Hodgson with the NTC, still rejected. I think some players just don't sign with a NTC.Commissioner (CBJ) wrote:So, with franchise tags, if a player doesn't agree, you will have to offer a contract until he does. I think age plays in to it in terms of NTCs. Because Hodgson, Stamkos, and Stafford are all young and rejected contracts at their asking price.
The pending offer when I advance the file is without a NTC. We'll see how that goes.
If the others get rejected, I'll try without the NTC and add it after.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
Thanks to Sebastien, I found some guys in the draft class who weren't showing up in CSB. I missed changing a rights number on the guys I overwrote to finish the class. There were three or four goalies like this. The draft class is fully in its entirety now and once I upload the file again, you'll be able to see that.
I'll be advancing the file two days again today, to the 13th. This way, I still have three days to work on the franchise tag problem so that I can get guys signed before the file freezes for the draft.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
File up to the 13th. Draft class players now all appearing in CSB. Still working through arbitration cases. I have a lot out to my guys and a handful that still need to be PMed to me. I also still have to PM you guys for a few of them. I'm going to try and organize that better tomorrow and early next week. Feel free to send me a PM about an arbitration case if I forgot it.

Stafford agreed to his franchise tag. Hodgson, Stamkos, Weber all still deciding. Upped Jack Johnson's offer to 5.5M. We'll see how that goes.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
So, there's a run-time error with the file. It occurs only when attempting to draft with San Jose or Los Angeles. If you want to sim through the draft, make sure that those two teams are CPU-controlled. I have no idea what's going on with it. It happened after Dan downloaded the most recent file with the goalie update. It says Run-Time Error 13 'Type Mismatch'. Fhockey is no help. I have gone through and cross-checked everything that I have done pertaining to SJ and LA since I made that last update.
Reversing the transactions and file edits have not helped. I checked through draftpicks.ehm and that's all correct.
What I will do, since the EHM-generated draft order is wrong anyway, I will manually input the draft after our draft is complete. So, I will fast-draft through, advance the file a day, and then manually fix the draft in players.ehm. Dan tells me that, as of now, the CSB for next year is not a problem for him. I have no idea what happened. I thought maybe I calculated a Player ID wrong and accidentally matched it with one of SJ/LA's players, but that isn't the case. Brad told me that if you replaced players.ehm with one from another file, it worked. So, it's obviously a players.ehm issue. I've done all I can in that file to find it.
If someone wants to look for an inaccuracy, they can. But, for now, with apologies to SJ and LA for scouting, I'll just have to work around it.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
I planned on dicking around with finding all the prospects whose ELCs contain options, team or player, but I really don't feel like doing it because it's 2 years worth.
So, what I'll do is this. When the TO comes up, it'll be rejected. I'll only find player options because those would roll over automatically.
I don't remember if I said I was going to adjust all ELCs to 3 year (or less) contracts. If someone wants to search the forums and show me where it was I'll do it. Otherwise, I looked and couldn't find it. But I'm definitely removing any POs that are on the ELCs.

File uploaded with some of the little things about the draftees fixed. Rights numbers and stuff. Also took a few of last year's out of this year's CSB. Arbitrations and whatnot entered.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
Tomorrow at 11:59 a.m. ET is the deadline to send players to arbitration or sign any existing expiring players to contracts. Though we are not yet in the free agency period in EHEC, players will not be allowed to be signed. Any current rights arbitrations or regular arbitrations will still be completed, as I still have to send some of those PMs out after dragging my ass. I also need some back from my arbitrators.
In terms of re-trading a player's rights if you cannot sign him, I will allow one other rights trade for these players. If any are unsigned. I will be taking care of these things tonight/tomorrow/Sat-Sun before I leave on Tuesday. I'll try to anyway. For that, I ask that my arbitrators get all cases back to me by Monday so I can tie up all the loose ends before I leave.
Sorry for the delay on things, guys. My apologies for being lazy.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
What I decided to do for the franchise tagged guys was to elevate their salary by 1M and then have an NTC with a 3 year length. So what I'm going to do is take 25% off that (or up to formula amount), and then manually edit the contract length. Worked with Weber in test sims, should work with JJ, worked with Hodgson and should work on Stamkos.
That way, I at least get the NTC in there in-game and feel more comfortable about them agreeing to in-game deals.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
In the soon-to-be-uploaded .zip file will be the new config_teams.ehm (there are new affiliations and ATL is now WPG) along with the updated pictures folder.
The pictures folder includes new logos for WPG (the NHL logo), the updated Preds logo, the updated Lightning logo, NYR's affiliate is the Connecticut Whale, St. John's AHL team is included with the AHL logo, Binghamton's updated logo, Springfield, and a handful of others). It also includes MTS Centre replacing Phillips Arena. And a Winnipeg Free Press header
You will have run-time errors if you do one and not the other.
I'd suggest you do both for the experience. Plus, I took the time to do it for you.
I also hope to have a salary cap number determined by Sunday. Since arbitrations are almost done and I have gotten contracts done for the vacant teams, I should have a clearer idea of where to set the cap.

I actually have my Eastside set up for a total conversion, but it is a funny thing about the arena pictures causing havoc...

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
File updated to 6/17 in EHM, the day before the draft.
Instructions on how to update your EHM.
1. Download file (can't take anything for granted)
2. Unzip all file contents.
3. Copy and paste config_teams.ehm in to your main Program Files/EHM directory.
4. Open the unzipped pictures folder. Copy and paste 'arenas', 'logos', and 'papers' in to the main Program Files/EHM/pictures folder.
5. Load up the EHEC file as usual.
You shouldn't get any run-time errors if you do all the steps correctly. Updated are the new affiliations, the new logos, MTS Centre, Winnipeg Free Press header. I have the NHL logo as the WPG placeholder and the AHL logo as the St. John's placeholder.
I also found out the other day that I can change the nationalities for both draftees' home countries and for international competition. I may play around with that for this year's WJC/WC.
Any questions, reply here/PM me. These updates are not completely necessary, but you will have the Atlanta Thrashers in the game along with old AHL teams like the Quebec Rafales and hell, probably even the IHL Orlando Solar Bears for all I know. Like I said, I suggest you do this because I took the time to do it and make this experience entirely realistic.

Re: 2011 Offseason Updates Thread
Expect a salary cap figure when I get back. I want to look over the numbers again.
Odds are, it will be somewhere around 57.5 or 58. Not totally sure, still looking things over. But, for a baseline while I'm gone, think those two numbers.
