Amendments to Financial Policy; Other Notes
As I've been looking over some things, I have determined to change a few things.
Most of them revolve around leadership. Leadership will no longer be subject to a projection. The fastsim will probably not be indicative of leadership attribute gains because there are only certain ways to get them and they may not happen in the real life sim.
Now, a leadership bonus will be issued to players 70+ in LE. The reason for this is because LE is very valuable in playoff time, but plenty of guys in the file completely lack it. The bonus will ONLY BE FOR CURRENT ATTRIBUTE VALUES OF 70+. So, there will be no projection involved. The bonus will be graded similar to the current 80/85 system, with 70+ being a $100,000 increase and 75+ being $200,000. There will be no devaluation for low LE. Considering that the players subject to the bracket increases are all under 28, I don't know how much of an issue this will become.
For those in the arbitration process, leadership needs to be highly valued in the deliberations. I will be outlining the arbitration process more as we go along toward the offseason, but leadership will be important.
Not necessarily an amendment to the financial policy, but I will be taking the liberty of acting in the best interest of the vacant teams. I had to disable registration on the boards because we've been getting spammed badly with new accounts. None of our applicants responded to emails, so we are still looking for new GMs. I realize it took us a while to get back to them, so I apologize for that. Please have them apply again if you are friends of them.
I am still waiting to get in touch with one of the people I had in mind for the arbitration process. Again, I will outline this further as we get closer to the offseason. I'm going to keep an Excel spreadsheet for each team of their new contracts so that I don't lose track of them. Remember that the new contracts do not take effect until the following season. Also, stay flexible if you sign an extension during the season, because that player may still reach the Exhibit 5 bonuses.
Remember the 72 games played rule for your goaltenders. We're entering the playoff chase and some of you don't seem to care about this. I still haven't edited the Rulebook, but it's a rule that has been brought to your attention on the boards and brought up in other threads.
While in the process of applying for jobs, I'm going to start looking at the 2011 Draft Class. I really hope to pace myself with this and do a little at a time rather than all at once, though I'm sure that will be futile. I will also have to construct the AHL playoffs come April.
League activity is severely slipping and we are now up to essentially 8 inactive GMs. The league is becoming too mechanical for my tastes, though I really do not know how to fix it. Missing almost 2/3 of the league makes the trade deadline a little less entertaining. Obviously, there isn't much we can do about it. If you can spread the word about us, please do what you can.
To those of you around daily, thank you.

Re league activity, I'll start trying to convince some fantasy sports guys on to ehm. It's so overwhelming at first it's really hard, u really gotta be into stuff like this to stick with it. What do u think about bonuses for keeping a game story like thread or a local newspaper. Fhockey had some really funny/entertaining ones, and who wouldn't want to read pensGM thoughts on his team and it's performance.
Nothing major, something like option of 3 con points/5 attribute points/10 ceiling points. You could set tons of caps, like con couldn't go over 70, even attributes to. Ceiling maybe 90 or 100. I'm not talkin about boosting top 6 forwards, top 4 d or starter goalies. Fringe 4th line guys to AHL guys who might see callups to fill injures. Personally, I'd use all mine on Fedor.
You would need to write a certain amount of stories, for a certain amount of time so u can't flake out (like I did wIth 24/7 thing) and still get one. Minimum 1 story/entry per month for 3 months? You can't get more then 4 per year, and a player could only receive one boost pear year, and only 1 of each (con, attribute and ceiling) lifetime. I dunno, just a thought...
Edit: what about compensatory picks for ppl who take over shitty teams to attract new gms?

I don't think there's a shortage of people wanting to play fantasy hockey. Football Manager sells millions of copies; thousands of people play Be a GM mode on NHL10/11 even though the interface is crap and AI is retarded. It's just that freeware EHM is super old and not the most sophisticated or sensible simulator out there. I don't know how to get people into it though - I just don't know that many fantasy hockey nuts.

Re: Amendments to Financial Policy; Other Notes
I think some kind of rating system/commitee can grade the articles that are written. Higher grades equal better rewards cause honestly, I could just write garbage and I will.

Re: Amendments to Financial Policy; Other Notes
I remember when Adam gave out ceiling points for writting a Draft Review, there was 15 of them! But, I'm not too found on the idea of giving out increases on a yearly basis for writting articles. Writting would become a job, and some GMs just don't like to write (me!), while some GMs are good at it and enjoy it (TB!). He would get the rewards, and get an even better team, while teams with low-profile GMs wouldn't get anything. It happened in ITC, the most active GMs would get all the increases and they all had stacked teams. EHM should be about tactics and dealing only.
We just need to fill up the league.

Re: Amendments to Financial Policy; Other Notes
Or, you guys could just write shit and be involved to pay me and Ryan back for the time spent on the league?
Seriously, though, first off, it's unfair to guys who simply don't have time to write an article. It's not that they don't want to, it's that they have 15 minutes to check in every day and they look at results, download the file, send lines, and that's that. Second, completely unfair to vacant teams.
I'll do the draft review again, cause I think that was well-received and we were full at that time. I'd like to get full again. But, it's a dying community and hard to find people. Plus, EHM sucks with Windows 7, doesn't really work well with macs, and the people with macs don't care enough to put forth all the effort to get EHM to work.
I still sim on my 8 year old desktop with XP cause I don't want to fuck around with simming on W7.

I run Windows 7 x64 on my personal laptop and I've never had an issue with EHM. Just install it and run it in administrator mode. I don't know why everyone seems to have so much trouble with EHM on Windows versions newer than XP. Administrator Mode is your friend.

I've had problems with overwriting the savefile on Windows 7 too. I just don't bother with it while I still have a machine that runs XP. Just got an external HD today to move some shit off that dinosaur and see if I can get it to work better.Parker wrote:I run Windows 7 x64 on my personal laptop and I've never had an issue with EHM. I should've been more specific here: what I meant was that you must install it in Administrator Mode, and also run it in Administrator Mode. Installing without using Administrator Mode is what initially caused me problems with EHM on Vista and Win7. Another issue I ran into with Win7 is when you increase the font sizes (almost a requirement on an 18" screen with 1920x1080 resolution) it really messes up the display of fonts in EHM, because it increases the font sizes but not the sizes of the windows in which they are displayed.Commissioner (CBJ) wrote:I've had problems with overwriting the savefile on Windows 7 too. I'd wager the savefile issue is related to not using Administrator Mode too; running any application without Administrator Mode severely limits what folders on your hard drive you that the application is allowed to modify, and the Program Files folder is one of these protected folders.

Yeah, just a bit of a pain in the ass. I have to overwrite the savefile as administrator too I think.

Just a quick note. I will offer the contracts in EHM. If the player accepts, we will then revert back to his previous salary prior to uploading the file. If it isn't done, just calmly send a PM and we will fix the issue for the next upload.

I'm usually on my MAC because I hated XP/Vista but W7 is pretty solid.

Re: Amendments to Financial Policy; Other Notes
I have to re-evaluate the over 32 rule on everyone becoming a UFA. The NHL CBA says that any player over 27 and with 7 years of service can decide to become an unrestricted free agent. The way it is written now, you cannot re-sign any player over 32 and I'm not sure that's a fair setup. I think I'll be editing the 32&over group to allow teams to sign a certain number of these players, but the rest will become UFAs.
Sorry for all the confusion with this. It's a very difficult system to nail down and I constantly keep realizing flaws in the policies. I'll keep everyone posted. I'm running in to these problems now and I just want to sim and call it a night, so I'll look at everything in depth tomorrow morning.

Re: Amendments to Financial Policy; Other Notes
Couple other things as I'm going through here. For D, faceoffs will not count as a less-than-65 devaluation. Kind of pointless, quite frankly. Keep in mind that the less-than-65 devaluations count for ALL of the attribute categories, including the main six. Even for players who are "defensive specialists", if they have low OF totals. The 350k specialist will likely negate the OF devaluations, but still. It saves you a little bit of money.
I'll outline the arbitration process in a little bit. I will be creating 4 new board accounts for our anonymous arbitrators. They will post their results using these accounts, or, if they are unable, they can PM their information to me. I'll elaborate in the thread.

Re: Amendments to Financial Policy; Other Notes
Something I wanted to add about the Exhibit 5 bonuses. They are for guys currently under contract and only applicable to guys signed before the new financial policy was released. So, mostly, guys signed before January of 2011. The new guys will be getting more sufficient raises. Exhibit 5 bonuses should not affect any players you are currently signing because most of them were operating under contracts signed prior to EHEC.
In other words, go to the Contract Offers forum. Search the player's name. If no results are found, then he is not eligible for Exhibit 5 bonuses. It doesn't matter if you signed him or if another team signed him, he is eligible if he is found in that forum. There are probably posts missing from GMs who are no longer here, so it will be up to the Committee to figure out who those guys are.
