BUSY SUMMER IN THE CANADIAN CAPITAL
After a disappointing elimination in the conference semifinals versus the Florida Panthers, Marty worked really hard with his own team to identify what was missing to get a longer run in the series.
“We definitely lacked of scoring touch and I felt also that we needed more depth, especially in defense.”
Coming into the start of the season, here are all the changes made by GM Marty.
It all started with the addition of scoring PF Riley Tufte coming from Pittsburgh in return of defense prospect Antti Tuomisto ans picks #42 and #82.
Then the veteran David Backes was dealt to Florida for picks #27 and #117 in order to make cap room.
The latter pick was then traded along with Ryan Stone to move up to the 82nd selection.
The two-way center Fabian Gunnarsson was added from Dallas with Dallas 3rd round pick of the 2023 draft in return of Ottawa 4th selection of the 2021 draft and Drayson Bowman.
During the draft, the 27th selection was sent to Vancouver for 2021 Edmonton 1st round pick, and picks #60 and #61 were traded to LA for LA 2022 2nd and 3rd rounders.
Marty then dealt center Joe Colborne for Jordan Greenway and Boston 2021 3rd round pick.
The main trade happened on the 26th of August while franchise center John Tavares was dealt along with prospect Cole Coskey to the Flyers in return of PF Lawson Crouse and Buffalo 2021 1st round pick.
Finally, Radovan Bondra was first acquired from Edmonton for a 5th before sending him right away with a 2nd rounder to get center Nate Schnarr from the Jets, and Evgeny Artyukhin was dealt to the Rangers for prospect Jan Jenik.
On the UFA market, while Eric Tangradi, Nolan De Jong and Jared Boll were not extended, the GM signed forwards Jason Salvaggio and Chris Gratton, and Defenceman Alex Petrovic
In addition, the GM made some hostile offers on the RFA market to add young talented 2way Dman Kristian Rubins from Pittsburgh, an other talented Defenceman Jonhathan MacLeod from Montreal and goaltender Tyler Parsons from Boston.
So even though the core group still here, it’s gonna be very interesting to see the way the Sens will perform this season.
“I can’t say nothing else will happen since we still have cap space and contracts slots but I definitely feel comfortable and excited with the team right now.”
IN: Riley Tufte, Fabian Gunnarsson, Jordan Greeway, Lawson Crouse, Jonhathan MacLeod, Nate Schnarr, Jason Salvaggio, Alex Petrovic, Jan Jenik, Erik Karlsson and Chris Gratton.

The Sens will start the season with back-to-back games by visiting the Detroit Red Wings on October 7 and the Leafs the next day, while their first home game is on October 11 vs the Winnipeg Jets.
