ARZ-OTT
TO Ottawa
D Oliver Ekman- Larsson (73) (50% salary retention for this season)
TO Arizona
D Ryan Pulock (75)
LW Lucas Sutter (76)
1st ARZ 2024
1st OTT 2024
1st PHI 2024
2nd PIT 2024
2nd OTT 2024
3rd OTT 2025
3rd OTT 2026
Well, the Arizona Coyotes have come to terms with the Ottawa Senators. We trade OEL for a couple of decent players and a bunch of draft picks. The retooling in Phoenix has started. I needed to move some salary to be able to bring some new life to the Coyotes. It was a hard decision to part with OEL as he was a Coyote for 14 seasons. Good luck OTT with your new addition, and thanks!!!

Want to specify that 1st PHI is top-12 protected, and will turn into 1st OTT 2025 instead if it becomes top-12.ArizonaGM wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 7:37 pm TO Ottawa

Arizona accepts this trade
ARZ will confirm soon
Otherwise I confirm the rest:
It took several weeks of discussions but it was worth it.
OEL is already a certain age but I still decided to empty my bank of picks to get one of the best defenders in the league, even if it's just for 5-6 seasons.
Thanks to the Coyotes GM and good luck with your rebuild!

Re: ARZ-OTT
I was going to enter the trade and just noticed this. OEL has one more season left after this. Did you mean 50% retention and apply it all this season? In that case the cap penalty would be (after tonight's game):
7750000/2*(82+82-34)/(82-34) = 10.495M for the remainder of the season, which means ARZ needs to clear roughly 3.35M in cap (1.6 while Barbashev is on LTIR for the next two weeks).
Alternatively you can spread out the retention over the next 1.6 seasons in which case it's 3.875M per, or choose to retain less than 50%.
If you meant for the retention to only reduce OEL's cap hit for OTT this season and not next, that's not possible.

Re: ARZ-OTT
Okay, Arizona will only retain 4 Million of OEL's salary for the remainder of this season.
Arizona accepts the trade and other conditions of the trade.

Re: ARZ-OTT
Ok but that's what Dan is saying you can't do. If you are retaining 50% you MUST retain it for BOTH years. The question is whether you PAY FOR IT ALL THIS SEASON or BOTH years.
If you PAY for the retention all this year: 7750000/2*(82+82-34)/(82-34) = 10.495M for the remainder of the season, which means ARZ needs to clear roughly 3.35M in cap (1.6 while Barbashev is on LTIR for the next two weeks).
If you PAY for the retention THIS YEAR AND NEXT: 3.875M per year. Meaning that much for this year AND next year.
Retaining 1 year at 50% on a 2 year contract is not allowed.

Re: ARZ-OTT
After discussing with Marty, I interpreted this as ARZ requesting retention for one season such that the penalty is 4M. This would be approx. 1.47M retention. Rounding down to 1.45 gives a cap penalty of:
1.45*(82+82-35)/(82-35)) = 3979787
This leaves OTT with -7608 cap room as is, so... maybe a dozen high-end sticks and a few pucks at today's prices.
If any of this is in question, let me know ASAP.

That’s exactly what ARZ and I agreed for.SharksGM wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 3:30 am After discussing with Marty, I interpreted this as ARZ requesting retention for one season such that the penalty is 4M. This would be approx. 1.47M retention. Rounding down to 1.45 gives a cap penalty of:

I was expecting some cap room at the end though haha.
We’ll figure it out.
