2020 Offseason Schedule
Firstly, I have updated the league file with all of the pending trades. Let me know if I missed something besides the Josh Godfrey buyout. Secondly, let me remind you that I am not processing contract re-signings right now. That will happen after the draft. Things that are happening now:
1. AHL team rewards for half of the league.
2. Rule changes - please comment ASAP before I finalize them.
The EHEC entry draft will begin on Friday, July 17. I have completed giving POT, CON and ceiling ratings to 155 skaters and 10 goalies. I still have to give them current attributes, most importantly LE and PE. I will randomize most of the current attributes based on their POT and ceilings, with some hand-tweaking for the most NHL-ready picks (~top 20 ranked prospects and overagers). I aim to get this done in the next week and enter them into the file, at which point they will be final (barring fixing obvious mistakes and typos like ceilings of 10 or 1000 instead of 100, etc.). This will leave two weeks for everyone to prepare for the draft.
The draft itself usually takes a couple of weeks. Last year we started the draft on July 14 and unrestricted free agency on August 18, so that's around two weeks for re-signing free agents before UFA starts if we keep to a similar pace.
Any questions?

Seems that way, he said there'd be "around two weeks for re-signing free agents before UFA starts if we keep to a similar pace" to previous drafts.Dallas Stars GM wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 9:21 am Contract (extensions) offers will be done after the draft ?

Any chance you can refresh my memory on the numeric height designations please? Seems like a very "short" draft.

Work up or down from there to get other heights (8=6'1", 10=6'3", etc).
Dan has height factored in for the hitting projections on the spreadsheet (column CT).

In the MJHL, the OCN Blizzard picked up Tryg Many Guns but eventually realized that having Many Guns only makes sense if you also have Many Fingers.DetroitGM wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 5:41 pmI think my favourite so far is Primo Self, though Ivan Ivan is kind of fun too.Vik (Habs) wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 4:55 pm How am I just now finding out there's a player whose first name is Gunnarwolfe?

While looking up the links to those two, I came across Brooker Pretty Young Man. You think that's a man who is pretty young or a pretty man who is young?
Edit: Looking further, the RHL has some truly amazing names.

Those are some great names, it seems like there are a lot of Indigenous players in the league too, which is good to see in light of the racism they face both on and off the ice.Vik (Habs) wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 5:48 pm Edit: Looking further, the RHL has some truly amazing names.
I have just two name comments there;
-Do you think Ethan Many Bears is related to Ethan Bear?
-I wonder if all the Many Fingers (Kyle, Kaleb, McCarthy, Myles, Walker, and Ky) are responsible for Talyn Bruised Head?

It looks to be a senior men's league with some teams in First Nations communities. Kainai apparently translates to "Many Chief people" so I guess it shouldn't be surprising that their team has a bunch of players with Many in their name and several others named Day Chief.DetroitGM wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 6:00 pmThose are some great names, it seems like there are a lot of Indigenous players in the league too, which is good to see in light of the racism they face both on and off the ice.Vik (Habs) wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 5:48 pm Edit: Looking further, the RHL has some truly amazing names.

He's not much of a team player and quite a long shot, though not as much as Many Guns.Vik (Habs) wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 4:55 pm How am I just now finding out there's a player whose first name is Gunnarwolfe?
That's covered in the EHM FAQ. And yes, there are lots of short players in this draft. I already had to round up a lot of player heights just to get enough 6'0/6'2 players to make things interesting.VancouverCanucksGM wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 3:53 pm Any chance you can refresh my memory on the numeric height designations please? It's possible that not having a draft combine made things worse since some of these players are still growing and would have gained an inch or two by now, but then again a lot of veteran players' listed heights are very generously rounded up, so...

Alright, I'm down to about 50 PE ratings left to enter, goalie current abilities, boosting overagers and a few odds and ends. I'm planning to update the file either Friday or Saturday with the final draftees.

Just to confirm because I see them from a few teams, no contract extensions yet?

I updated the file with retirements as per the rulebook. I'm going to advance to the 21st (in-game) tomorrow to see if there are any more POT boosts and then we can get re-signings started.
Funny enough, I see there were some half-decent boosters from 2019 who went undrafted again. Oh well.

There were a couple undrafted boosters from 2019 that I liked, but assumed they'd never get a chance to boost since we couldn't sign them immediately anymore? They'd be 20 by the time next 6/20 rolls around, right?

Someone have the link to the calculator? I feel like that needs to be MUCH more prominent somewhere on the site, I have to search for the link every time I want to check it out.

It's in the rulebook thread on contracts. Where else do you want it to be?AvalancheGM wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 10:08 pm Someone have the link to the calculator? I feel like that needs to be MUCH more prominent somewhere on the site, I have to search for the link every time I want to check it out.
Every pending free agent is already on there, but presuming you want to add someone for next season, you need to copy each player's entry from this page (which has a greed column for UFAs, unlike the normal roster page) into row 578 or later.AvalancheGM wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 11:20 pm When I try to add someone it says it's a protected cell and I can't edit.

This is technically not true. I mean, they're irrelevant, but I have Greg Pateryn, Ryan Turek, and Brad Morrison with expiring contracts that are not listed in the calculator. I suspect all three were auto-signings and never added because, again, they're irrelevant?

Anyone below 60 OA is not worthy of being pasted into the sheet and gets league minimum, which was not specified in the rulebook before but is now.DetroitGM wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 11:46 pm This is technically not true. Should be linked in GM office or the header menu. Six paragraphs down in one thread isn't really prominent.

Haha, very fair.
Semi-related, how are you calculating overall? I notice it's different in the sheet from in game, at least in some cases (for example, Taylor Beck is listed at 74 in the sheet but has 72 in game)

Re: 2020 Offseason Schedule
The OA on roster/UFA pages is just the floor of the average of the main seven attributes (OF/DF/SK). The OV in the cap calculator/draft sheet is a hideous formula that's a weighted average (including faceoffs for centers) with a consistency modifier. Actually I don't think the draft sheet one is quite the same, but it's not really consequential so

Anton Cederholm isn't in the calculator and I can't add him. I know he's 59 OA but his defensive ceiling is mid-80s.

I was trying at like 550, then read the bit about 600 and later.
I forget, are the contract lengths per salary minimum or max?

Re: 2020 Offseason Schedule
I believe I have entered most of the requested contracts, with the exception of New Jersey's (which are outdated) and Florida (ditto). Speaking of which, Florida have been AWOL and St. Louis submitted his resignation the other day, so those two teams are available now. If they're still unfilled by the end of the week, they could use interim GMs for free agency and possibly beyond. As before, out-of-conference interims are preferred.
A few teams have yet to re-sign anyone. I assume Vik is just going to let P-O Joseph walk due to his unreasonable demands. But anyway, we're well on track to start UFA next week. Provisionally, I aim to close re-signings on Tuesday night and start the UFA period on Wednesday. Any preferences for a start time? Noon EST? 7 PM?
Next update I'll get to re-signing staff (just extending every expiring contract by one year by default) and whatever else I missed, like AHL bonuses (Ducks entered theirs; if you haven't already, go do yours).
Questions?
