Draft review
Round 1
Brett Howden, C/LW, 23rd overall
Brett Howden's career
----------
2015-16 Moose Jaw Warriors WHL 75 57 37 94 57 35
Scouting notes:
Brett Howden is an all-around forward but we could consider him more as a Power Forward. Brett is known for his ability to be really good on checking and hitting. In his zone, he is always at the right place to cut off opponent's play. He as a below average attack skills. He will probably hit 35 to 45 points a season on a 2nd line. On the middle, he will win more faceoff than he could lost.He also has a decnt skating ability. He already is a leader on the ice even if he is 17 years old. We could compare his style of play to Wojtek Wolski who's playing with the Chicago Blackhawks or even Logan Couture from the Winnipeg Jets. Brett will start the season in AHL at the beginning of the season, and we should see him play in the big league in 1 year. He sould be able to hit a 2nd line role in the future. He is the little brother of Quinton Howden.
Round 2
Max Gerlach, C/RW, 45th overall
Max Gerlach's career
----------
2015-16 Medicine Hat Tigers WHL 75 24 30 54 57 37
Scouting notes:
Max is a natural sniper who could scores a lot of goals in this league. He is not known to be a great passer but have some skills with his stick. Defensively, he got a decent checking ability but won't hit his opponent because of his small size. He has a good positioning that helps him to be at the right place in his zone and to be at the right spot when time to take a shoot on goals. He will be an average skater and faceoff man. He will likely be a winger. We could compare his style of play to Brock Nelson from the Florida Panthers. Max will start the season in Junior but will be to pro training camp. We will probably see him in 2 or 3 years. He will fight for a spot on a 1st line RW in the future.
William Bitten, C/RW, 59th overall
William Bitten's career
----------
2015-16 Plymouth Whalers OHL 59 62 32 94 15 34
Scouting notes:
Will is an all around offensive player. He can pass, be great with his stick but the essential strength of his game is his shot. He can scores goals from anywhere. On the middle he is really good on faceoffs. He is a good skater. His weaknesses are his defensive play on the ice and his lack of consistency. We can compare him to Phil Kessels from the Calgary Flames. He will go work his weaknesses in junior for maybe 2 more years before seeing him in AHL. If he developp well, he could be a 1st line center but he will take a lot of time. He is what we called a ''project''.
Round 3
Frédérick Allard, D, 64th overall
Frédérick Allard's career
----------
2015-16 Chicoutimi Saguenéens QMJHL 60 22 23 45 42 36
Scouting notes:
Frédérick Allard is a defensive d-man that we can consider as an offensive d-man. He has a decent shot, a great first pass and some stick ability. In his zone, he his reliable without being too dominant. He has a decent skating ability. His weaknesses are his lack of consistency. He could be a good leader in this league. In the future he will fight for a 5th-6th role d-man with some chance to play on powerplay unit. We can compare him to Nicolas Brouillard from the Ottawa Senators. He will finish his Junior development before coming to pro level.
Ilya Karpukhin, D, 88th overall
Ilya Karpukhin's career
----------
2015-16 Mechel Tsheljabinsk RUS 59 6 18 24 24 32
Scouting notes:
Ilya is a guess. Some scout say he will never play next level and others say he will be a prolific d-man. It's why to descripe what are his strengths and weaknesses. We will give him a contract and see if his potential will grow.
Round 5
Hudson Elynuik, LW/C, 143rd overall
Hudson Elynuik's career
----------
2015-16 Spokane Chiefs WHL 54 24 19 43 78 39
Scouting notes:
Hudson is a two-way forward. He has a good size that helps him to be good on cheking and give good bodycheck. He will certainly have a spot on a 4th line on next level. He will play all his junior's years before coming to pro level. He is a similar player of Trent Hunter.
Round 6
Matteo Gennaro, C/LW, 165th overall
Matteo Gennaro's career
----------
2015-16 Calgary Hitmen WHL 77 25 44 69 34 39
Scouting notes:
Matteo will be a 4th liner in next level. He god some good defensive upside. He were really happy to see him available in round 6. He will finish his junior stage before having a year or 2 in AHL.
Round 7
Marshall Rifai, D, 195th overall
Scouting notes:
Marshall will be an offensive al star-d-man in AHL. We will never see him in NHL.
