2014-15 Playoffs and Off-Season
First off, a big thank you to EVERYONE who made it through another season of the EHEC. Six seasons in, and still going! We had a lot of turnover last summer and fall, which made for a pretty exciting season, as it brought about a lot of changes to a lot of teams. Now, on to the playoffs...
Playoffs will start this Wednesday, April 15th, with the Western Conference games. We'll do West one night, East the next, rather than mixing it up like the NHL does. I'll tweak the file to get the necessary match-ups going. Submit your lineups with GM Office just like the regular season. We will be keeping the cap rules in place during the playoffs, so no extra players unless you need injury replacements, etc.
For non-playoff teams, there isn't much for you to see for a while, unfortunately. There is the NHL Draft Lottery this Saturday. We will use the NHL results. Lottery "standings" are here:
1. Colorado
2. Philadelphia
3. NY Islanders
4. Vancouver
5. Minnesota
6. St. Louis
7. Montreal [owned by Philadelphia]
8. Buffalo
9. Nashville (86 pts, 33 ROW)
10. Toronto (86 pts, 34 ROW)
11. Detroit (86 pts, 35 ROW)
12. Florida (88 pts, 38 ROW)
13. Columbus (88 pts, 39 ROW)
14. Anaheim [owned by Philadelphia]
As with the NHL, the winner will go to the #1 overall position. Any team can only go down one spot.
Going into the off-season: As usual, you are free to discuss and make trades. However, please do not post any trades on the boards until trading opens up again after the playoffs. Player contracts, options, free agency, etc, will also not begin until after the playoffs. We'll post more about all that once we get closer.
Finally, this year we will not be doing AHL playoffs. As Dan said, too much effort for too little return right now. But in the past we did carry over LE boosts for playoff teams. So I'm wondering...should we just add, say, +2 LE to all "playoff" AHL teams, or should I include farm LE boosts as part of a reward for writing up season recaps/draft previews?

We have never had a cap during the playoffs, and I don't think the NHL does either. We will be keeping the cap rules in place during the playoffs, so no extra players unless you need injury replacements, etc.
I am not sure if calling AHL'ers up during the playoffs has any effect, but I am wondering what the reasoning is for this new rule right before the playoff starts?

I'm pretty sure we have kept the cap in place. That seems to be the committee's collective memory, anyway.Tampa Bay GM wrote:We have never had a cap during the playoffs, and I don't think the NHL does either. We will be keeping the cap rules in place during the playoffs, so no extra players unless you need injury replacements, etc.

Like in the NHL iirc, we have not employed a max roster size or salary cap during the playoffs in seasons past.
If this is not conclusive, I can probably dredge up some old test-sim files from last year to reinforce my claim.

Great league to be a part of!
Doesnt matter that Im last, this year it was worth it. Worst case scenario is Eichel who would go #1 in lot of other drafts.
Keep up the good work guys.

Hm. Well then. I'll rule on this tomorrow. I can say, though, that if any post-season write-up rewards include prospect LE bonuses, players called up for the playoffs will not be eligible.Nero Avalanche wrote:Great league to be a part of!

I'll advance the file tomorrow, get the playoff match-ups set, and add some more draftees to the file.

Re: 2014-15 Playoffs and Off-Season
I personally don't recall any cap in place for the Playoffs... but then i've never been. I don't see the big deal with the extra salary as you wouldn't be adding much - Keep the player limit unless injury but salary shouln't matter - playoff teams would call up the best players not the lesser ones because of cap space.
- damn i'm like Kevin Lowe!! I've got 6 soccer trophies from my playing days too!!

Re: 2014-15 Playoffs and Off-Season
The main advantage is no longer have to worry about 1 week injuries, leaving you with no cap relief and a roster spot to fill. I constructed my team that if that were to happen during the regular season, I could get under right away but maybe lose a player on waivers. I fully expected to have no cap enforcement in the playoffs.IslandersGM wrote:I personally don't recall any cap in place for the Playoffs... but then i've never been. I would be disappointed to see a precedent that has been set, that mimics real life, be ruled against days before the playoffs begin. However, I will fully support any decision Bub makes since he is our almighty EHEC god.

Re: 2014-15 Playoffs and Off-Season
Yep, that works, Nero. Thanks.
I think we all know that there's no way Bettman is going to have Buffalo or Arizona win the drawing on Saturday, so Nero & Greg: don't get your hopes up.
Personally, I think Toronto is going to be given, erm, "win" the drawing.
------------------
Here's my ruling re playoff cap: we will NOT be enforcing it during the playoffs. You can call up AHL reserves for your Cup run. In addition, since we're not doing AHL playoffs, I will be adding +2 LE to all players on AHL playoff teams.* However, anyone you call up for your Cup run will NOT be eligible for the bonus.
* - "AHL playoff team" is defined as any team in the top 8 conference standings; conferences to be analogous to their EHEC counterparts, ie, Hartford NYR) in the East, but Worcester (SJ) in the West. And no, I haven't looked at the final AHL standings yet so I don't know who is getting in and who isn't. So I'm not screwing over your team.

Re: 2014-15 Playoffs and Off-Season
Have added some more draftees. Haven't advanced the file yet b/c getting the schedule file just right is a pain in the ass. A couple of changes to the Western conference, and we're good. But....can't get East just right yet; Ottawa and Boston are reversed, b/c the game is hard-coded to read Ottawa as a division winner, and thus puts them ahead of Boston. So I'll probably have to manually edit the schedule file and then update it if/when the OTT and PIT series aren't sweeps.

Re: 2014-15 Playoffs and Off-Season
You might be right.
Specially because the draft will not be held live.

Great idea to follow what you guys have done in the last. As for the "like the NHL", I believe this argument isn't one to use actually.

Re: 2014-15 Playoffs and Off-Season
The following AHL teams will receive +2 LE bonus for all players who are not called up during the EHEC playoffs:
EAST:
Providence (BOS)
Hartford (NYR)
Hershey (WSH)
Rochester (BUF)
Springfield (CBJ)
Binghampton (OTT)
Grand Rapids (DET)
Bridgeport (NYI)
WEST:
Chicago (STL)
Worcester (SJ)
Abbotsford (CGY)
Manchester (LA)
Rockford (CHI)
Portland (ARZ)
Texas (DAL)
Milwaukee (NAS)
---------------------------------
All of the 2015 draftees are now in place and fully rated. There will likely be some fairly minor tweaks made to ratings and ceilings, but I will keep you posted when/if that happens. And I will not make changes less than a week before the draft. In fact, I will probably not make any more changes after the end of this month. Please double-check as you do your draft scouting that all the ceilings and other numbers are properly inputted. [EDIT: I have a few more players to add.]
---------------------------------
Who wants to take on the privilege of handling the voting for our league awards this year? Dan, you up for that again?
---------------------------------
Game 1, Eastern Conference games are tonight! Get those lines in, people!

Graves, no; he's out for two more weeks, which would mean missing a large chunk of the "what-if" playoffs. Middleton, yes, for the opposite reason: he's on your farm, presumably soaking up the fabulous AHL playoff experience.MartyFromOTTAWA wrote:I will just talked about my team:Commish Bub(NYR) wrote:The following AHL teams will receive +2 LE bonus for all players who are not called up during the EHEC playoffs:

Bill Hunter is shining on us from above!
It won't be fretted away - but i find the difference in players in our league vs real league quite different - they are exactly what we make them.
Damn it I was ready to draft some other guy

Well now, I was going to give myself a couple days off and open up trading again on Monday....but it looks like the sharks (not the Sharks) have started circling already.
So, fuck it, trading is once again open. Don't look for me to approve any trades until Monday, tho, since I've got a busy evening and Sunday planned.
And: the draft will go on as scheduled to coincide with the opening of the actual NHL draft. So, Friday, June 26th. We'll start at noon, eastern time US.

All accepted trades have been entered, with the exception of MIN-COL due to a draft pick issue. Two trades have been rejected but are open to appeal, and two trades have not yet been confirmed by both trade partners.
Fixed a bunch of con drops due to trades.
Put new free agent signees with their teams.
Updated the 2015 draft picks list. I will prob not make the lists for rounds 1-5 until we get closer to the draft and (likely) more trades have been completed.

Probably the best place to check is each team's contract offers thread. Original, pre-tagged, contracts should be listed there.
Also, it's been noted that the salary calculator is down. Here is a link to the most recent one we could find:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... d=63361058
We're working on tweaking the calculator as well; but this one is still useful.

League file updated with all trades and movements. (Hopefully.)
New and improved calculator should be coming shortly.
Instructions for the draft will also be posted later today.
