Re: April 16, 2013
A couple of blowouts, an overtime thriller, and a standard-issue Penguins win highlight the Eastern Conference playoff slate tonight. All four home teams win, much like the Western Conference last night. Tuukka Rask forgets how to stop the puck, allowing six goals on 24 shots, as the Habs cruise to a 6-1 victory. The Devils play a strong first period before completely falling apart in the second en route to a 6-1 defeat. The Jets get some late heroics from Todd Fedoruk, but it's youngster Gregory Hofmann who scores the overtime game winner to put the Caps in the driver's seat. The Penguins start slow, but finish strong, as the Panthers can't hold their 2-0 lead and fall in Game 1.
The Department of Player Safety is already busy at work again tonight looking at Evgeny Artyukhin's incident with Brian Lashoff that injured Lashoff until mid-May. Expect an announcement tomorrow on Artyukhin's fate.

Yeouch. Way to shock the home crowd with a shortie and a 2-nil lead, but... what about the other 50 minutes of the game? 15 shots!

Re: April 16, 2013
Hmmm horrible horrible first up effort, lines will need to be changed, I think.
Re: April 16, 2013
Todd Fedoruk with some more clutch postseason production. Would have been a plus to have the split assured headed to game two. Have some work to do on Thursday.
As for Artyukhin, plastic hammer, plastic hammer!

Re: April 16, 2013
The EHEC Department of Player Safety issues the following statement:
We have reviewed the incident on April 16 between Evgeny Artyukhin and Brian Lashoff. After viewing the video several times in real-time and slow motion, we have found it inconclusive if there was intent on Artyukhin's part or not. Any slewfoot is a dangerous, and potentially career-threatening, situation, but it's difficult to tell if the two players just got tied up or if there was an intent to eliminate Lashoff from the play by illegal means. However, the video shows an incident that is clearly reckless in nature. Referee Charles Norris felt there was enough intent to call the major penalty and therefore we automatically get sent the video.
Lashoff suffered what is being described as a "lower-body injury", but the injury appears to be in the upper leg area because of the way Lashoff's right leg snapped open from Artyukhin's skate and the force of his leg pushing into Lashoff's. Artyukhin does have a history as a reckless player and was suspended earlier this season for an incident with Keith Yandle. Despite the video not showing any clear intent to deliberately injure Lashoff, this is still an example of a dangerous play and one that we want to eliminate from the game because the end result could have been much more severe.
Like the Phaneuf suspension from the previous day, Artyukhin is a repeat offender this season and is fully aware of our commitment to player safety. The Lashoff incident itself carries a one-game suspension and a second game is added on for Artyukhin's repeat offender status.
This suspension will span Games 2 & 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series between the Washington Capitals and the Winnipeg Jets.
