Re-Alignment
Give me a day to digest this and we'll see how to proceed.

Sorry, I looked it up and thought it was a joke. What the fuck is this batty realignment scheme? I don't think I've seen a fan suggestion this stupid since one that had alphabetically sorted divisions.

Re: Re-Alignment
I think the NHL is completely retarded if they go along with this.
Might as well do it EHM style, and start new. Throw out all player and team stats, burn all the banners that teams currently have, and get a new trophy.

No. As far as I know, the conferences are written in the programming code of the game.Penguin wrote:But, is it possible to make EHM with the new conferences?
I'll research it tomorrow afternoon.

We are back to the 4 division days where Montreal played Boston every year.
I guess they do not remember why they did this conference thing!

sad thing is probably that is EXACTLY what they are thinking.jamesredwings wrote:We are back to the 4 division days where Montreal played Boston every year.

the only reason we in Cleveland have to sit through 19 games a year with the less-than-dynamic Kansas City Royals is because the Yanks v. BoSox get the best ratings.

Re: Re-Alignment
I've looked at every config file for EHM that is in the folder and I don't see any sort of way to switch conferences. I was hoping there was an East/West switch in teams.ehm or something, but there doesn't appear to be.
I was trying to type up a post of what the playoff picture would look like with the new format and I was totally lost.
My best solution so far has been this. In the offseason, I swap Minnesota with Winnipeg. Minnesota has been vacant more or less since the start of EHEC. They're a hard sell for anyone looking for a team whereas Winnipeg looks like a playoff contender for the foreseeable future.
This puts Winnipeg into the West and a doormat into the East. I tried to mess with config_teams.ehm to put a "dummy" team in place and just not schedule them any games and fill the team with useless FAs, but the code is written to allow no more than 30 teams.
The reason Winnipeg has to move West is because they wouldn't be able to be a playoff team for the West unless I had them there. So they must switch with an East team.
When playoff time comes, I will simply have to change regulation losses to OTL/SOL until I get enough points to produce the right playoff pairings.
If we ever got a competent, active Minnesota GM and they had success and were a playoff team, I would just make a new file in which Minnesota was in the West and switched with a non-playoff team.
If anyone has any other ideas, feel free to let me know.
Edit: Also just read this:

Outside chance #CBJ could still move to Eastern Conference if Phoenix franchise stays put or moves to city in Mountain or Pacific time zone.

why must they do this to us, us who have no intention of modifying the code of a 10 year old game.

Re: Re-Alignment
Fucking Christ, how I hate that smug little weasel Gary Bettman.
It's effectively impossible to do the sort of the realignment in EHM the way they're going to do in the NHL. Their concept of realignment is fucking retarded anyway and I like the league alignment a lot better the way it is.

Re: Re-Alignment
Well, should be Columbus and Winnipeg. Nashville's more viable than Columbus staying in the West. Under the old structure anyway.SharksGM wrote:Swap Nashville and Winnipeg, that's what the NHL should be doing.

Re: Re-Alignment
That's Columbus' fault for making possibly the worst cap team since the lockout. Well, maybe the Flames have been comparably bad, but that's about all. Nashville makes (made) the most sense geographically. I guess it's all a moot point now unless the board has a change of heart.

They also have four ownership hands in the jar trying to run things four different ways.
Plus, since old man McConnell died, his kid's only holding onto the team because of the guilt he'd have for selling his dad's prized possession.

Re: Re-Alignment
Could super design genius Quinn not code a PHP script to import schedule data and export it to a human-generated standings file that displayed the data in the horrible new alignment structure? Then the end of the year we would have a NHL playoff file like the AHL playoffs. Quite time consuming having to notepad edit staff (and a bunch of other stuff I can't imagine) to ensure proper simulation, not sure about development of players either. Not sure how you would handle that.
Would it be possible to auto-sim to end of playoffs in original gamefile and then manual edit playoff results and development?
+1 for keeping it the way it is

Wouldn't need a separate file I don't think. I'll have to put some scenarios together.

Re: Re-Alignment
I can't imagine the work that is gonna be needed to figure out the realignment for us. I suggest we stick with just swapping a western team with Winnipeg, IE Nashville, Columbus or Detroit. That way we'll all still be able to use the engine for fast sims ect. Sucks they did it this way and I knew when I came out ( and wasn't on here much) that this would put us in a heck of a situation.

It's going to be a bloody CBA fight this summer between the NHLPA, the league, and the owners. This is the first real shot across the bow.

so let's say there is some sort of lock out or strike at the start of next season. We keep moving forward with the season regardless of what the NHL does right?

Re: Re-Alignment
Time for this issue to resurrect itself.
An imbalanced conference is going to be a little bit of a pain in the ass. Everything should be doable, but may take some maneuvering during the playoffs.

Then why bother? We don't have fans to satisfy, travel budgets to figure out. If realignment in EHM means having unbalanced conferences and more shit work (with the possibility of it not working) then why do it?Commissioner (CBJ) wrote:Time for this issue to resurrect itself.

Yeah, I can manipulate the standings however I want to in order to create playoff matchups. I just have to remember to do them before the Playoff Tree is generated, otherwise it won't work.Penguin wrote:Is there a simple way to hand pick the playoff matchups through the file on EHM?
