For a pair of guys projected to go somewhere between 25 and 45, Vasilevski and Subban seem more than a tad overrated, particularly Vasilevski.

From what I've read regarding Vasilevski, he's far and away the best goaltender in the class. Most NHL-ready and most likely to be a starter. The reason he's projected to go low is because teams are worried about him staying in the KHL, where he had a contract last year but played in the second-tier league. I've been going back and forth on the goaltenders. Outside of Vasilevski, I don't think there's a lot of consensus on future starters.

This is why EHM needs a bust/boom feature for goaltenders. Maybe we can come up with our own system at random for non-top ranked goaltenders.

Just found out that Joonas Donskoi's re-entering the draft class this year. Guess I made him a little too good for our draft class.

It's not going to be applicable here because you're manually creating these guys, but I was very briefly with a league that had a somewhat similar system. Because EHM churns out a lot of X8 potential goalies, their method was to randomly add or subtract +/-5 points from their potential so the league wasn't overrun with 58/68/78 statted goalies. Maybe do something similar here?

we had one before the league died. last 3 rounds did 4 booms/4 busts....booms +1 to pot/+10 con(or con to 75) +10 or 15 to ceilings(dont remember all of it) and obvious busts were the opposite. Something that was brought in to make the later rounds just as valuable.

CSB rankings aren't necessarily the same as other orgs. Most consensus rankings and mock drafts I've seen have Reinhart going top 10, Maatta 10-15, and there seems to be no agreement on goalies beyond that Dansk, Vasilevski and Subban are best. The main concerns I read about Subban are related to his hip surgeries, which are a warning flag for such a young goalie.
Anyhow I think Adam is also trying to make up for most of the young/prospect goalies being garbage when the league started, hence the many future starters in thee last draft.

Some guys still have the possibility of being edited. Just be aware. I'll generally make that known when I post an update.

For right now, I think the skaters are pretty set in stone. The goaltenders are a whole 'nother story at this point.

Added 16 draftees to the file, which I will upload tomorrow. Hopefully adding another 10 or so more during the afternoon. Might finish off the goaltenders because it's quick and easy. I think I'll only put 5-8 more of them in there.

115 new draftees in the file. I'm having Tommy compile a list of the older draftees to see if they're worth keeping in the draft class. Means I'm about halfway done. Hoping for 225-240 new, possibly 15-20 old, depending on if there are any worth taking. Likely removing some of the undrafted goaltenders from previous classes.

The first round of arbitration PMs have been sent out. Once I get your response, I will forward it to one of my player agents. As has been the standard protocol, I have two per conference, and the opposite conference agents will handle your cases. Remember that, unlike last year, the agent will not see your PM.

If there is a conflict of interest with both opposite conference agents, due to 2013 draft picks, similar standings for next year (lottery pick at stake), or something else, I reserve the right to serve as both the agent and the arbitrator in a case. I expect that this will be extremely rare, if it happens at all.

Wife's TV night tomorrow night. Will do draftee work and hopefully have some more arbitration stuff to take care of.

My goal is 15-20 draftees, offer formula contracts, offer staff contracts, advance file to 6/10. We'll see if it happens. If not, it'll be done early in the week, probably Monday.

I talked to Tommy about this a while ago and we both seem to have experienced run-time errors simming ahead around 2016/2017. I think they're related to salaries/budgets. I managed to skip past one of them by trimming down some of the insane CPU contracts (10-12 mil per) but perhaps it would be wise to edit down team cash figures and budgets. I don't think anyone really cares about the crazy way EHM does finances so how about just editing everyone's player budget to 70 million or so and editing cash down so the board doesn't increase it by 20 mil every season.

To the guys I sent arb PMs to, you really need to get those back to me. I tried to front-load the schedule well in advance of my trip so that I can have it all done even with some delays. I don't want those delays to be right out of the gate.

Get to those ASAP.

Not going to advance the final tonight, but did upload it. Will do that tomorrow. I wound up creating more draftees than I expected to. Got 22 done. Felt like more.

Here's the list:

Brian Cooper: 1594
Chris Calnan: 1596
Max Iafrate: 1598
Dylan Blujus: 1601
Mitchell Moroz: 1619
Logan Nelson: 1623
Jujhar Khaira: 1627
Henrik Samuelsson: 1630
Daniel O'Regan: 1634
Jimmy Vesey: 1635
Kevin Roy: 1658
Devin Tringale: 1660
Quentin Shore: 1670
Thomas Dipauli: 1672
Adam Johnson: 1673
Graham Black: 1675
Dakota Mermis: 1676
Steven Hodges: 1679
Riley Barber: 1688
AJ Michaelson: 1692
Frank Vatrano: 1694
Travis Brown: 1702

138 draftees in the file. I'm about 60% done. Will be reviewing older draftees tomorrow.

Tomorrow, I will enter formula contracts, enter staff contracts, try to get another 15-20 draftees in, hopefully overwrite some existing draftees from past drafts, and advance the file.

Step 1 of today is done, at least for now.

To the draft class:

Reece Wilcox: 1704
Samuel Fejes: 1705
Ashton Sautner: 1708
Justin Kea: 1709
Charles Hudon: 1721
Nick Ebert: 1746
Matej Beran: 1796
Paul Dejersey: 1916
Doyle Somerby: 1927
Philip Tot: 1992
Adam Gilmour: 1995
Joshua Hanson: 2003
Alexander Gonye: 2007
Tyrel Seaman: 2026
Jacob Montgomery: 2040
John Draeger: 2049
Justin Auger: 2064
Matthew Beattie: 2074
Andrew Ryan: 2077
Connor Brown: 2079
Kristoff Kontos: 2120

159 players. Top 110 NA CSB (one was already in file). Thinking I'm going to do the top 150 NA CSB, the top 75-80 Euro CSB, and then 15 goalies. That would be 245 players for 210 picks, plus whatever stiffs are left over from last year.

I also have to add Tommy, who, unfortunately, didn't crack this year's CSB.

Went through and tried to get all the contract options off the ELCs signed before the new financial policy. I'm sure I missed a handful or more. Got the majority of the important ones. I believe I trimmed the ELCs with more than 3 contract years down to 3, but again, I'm sure I missed some.

Going to enter contracts now. Staff contracts, including the waiver claims, are all done.

Post by Virtual Jarmo »

Alright, new rule time! Been a while since we've had one of these.

This will forever be known as The Tyler Myers Rule.

We're adding a new bracket to the percentage formula chart for contracts for 27 & under.

This will fall below the 75-76 bracket and will have the same percentages.

Players with a OF + DF average of LESS THAN 75 AND either OF or DF of 78 or higher will now be paid the same percentages as the 75-76 average players.

Under the current brackets, Tyler Myers would make just 2.1M as a 85 DF defenseman. His teammate, Mike Weber, a 57 OF 75 DF defenseman will make 2.675. (A flaw of E5 bonuses). The nice thing about this is that Weber, after this contract, will be up for arbitration and the contract can regulate itself.

Instead, with this new bracket, Myers will make 3,312,500. A much more appropriate salary for a player of his caliber.

Some players, like Myers, will be affected more than others. Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson falls under this criteria and his salary goes from 2.975M to 3.15M. So, just a slight increase.

As for other players, Derick Brassard will go from 3.2M to 5.2M with this new bracket and his other bonuses. So, yes, some players may get overpaid. However, we feel that this will help the competitive balance and parity of the league as it may make players like Derick Brassard attractive free agent options if the GMs aren't willing to pay (and I wouldn't be).

Keep in mind that this will only affect players whose (OF + DF) / 2 average is less than 75. It's basically another way of paying the specialists more than just the 350k bonus, which really isn't enough in some instances. We experimented with a sliding scale of a 15, 20, 25 point gap between OF and DF, but this seems to be a more effective way of doing things.

Again, this is mostly for players with a huge OF/DF gap.

I'm going to experiment with looking at some other players, but I really wanted to get the Tyler Myers situation squared away because he was one of the players affected by this. I really don't think there will be a lot of players who fall into this bracket that wouldn't have been in the 75-76 range anyway.

In case you're wondering, the fastsim gave Myers a 3.25M per year contract.

Sorry guys, trades will have to wait until tomorrow. Got caught up in doing some other things.

Tomorrow, my goals are:

1. 15-20 draftees
2. Finish entering contracts
3. Finish off some of the early arbitrations
4. AHL LE updates
5. Edit Rulebook
6. Finish looking over list of past draftees
7. Discuss trades w/ Committee

If I get the first 4 done and the final 1, I'll be happy.

Just edited Ryan Murray and Morgan Rielly. Did a little bit more research on both. Improved Rielly offensively, dropped Murray a little offensively but bumped up his DF. Couple point move on each. Didn't realize how gifted Rielly really is offensively. Some scouts/GMs have Rielly ahead of Murray, but Rielly's ACL injury probably affected his ranking.

I think these two are more accurate now.

About to do some Euro CSB players. Aiming for 20. We'll see if I get there.

Also, I have some arbitration results to post later.

Gonna grab some lunch and move on to something other than the draft class for today.

Top 70 Euro CSB now in (some drafted already).

176 players in draft class, 166 are skaters.

As I said in previous post, updated Rielly and Murray. Working through arbitrations now. There's been a slight bit of confusion about the process from my agents who aren't doing what I envisioned. I'm discussing it with them via PM and we'll get things squared away.

Here's today's list of draftees, which may have more added to it later:

Edwin Hedberg: 2136
Sven Ziegler: 2172
Denis Vanin: 2231
Alexei Bereglazov: 2235
Lukas Sieber: 2254
Ludvig Nilsson: 2256
Aynars Podzinsh: 2290
Ronald Knot: 2333
Samu Markkula: 2360
Martin Prochazka: 2472
Arseni Khatsei: 2520
Ilya Yamkin: 2531
Ahti Oksanen: 2543
Kirill Maslov: 2745
Dmitri Stulov: 2747
Damir Galin: 2790
Daniil Yunushev: 2800

For those who need the full list again:

Will upload/advance file tonight for sure. Keep in mind that the draft date in the file is, I believe, 6/17. So I may not advance all the way to the 13th.

Uploading file now. Advanced file to 6/9. Holding off on going further because franchise tag contracts are proving to be a bitch again.

Will advance to 11th tomorrow to enter trades.

Still getting arb cases in order. Hoping to post 5-7 more completed cases tomorrow.

Another 15-20 draftees on the list for tomorrow as well.

Some of Erik Nemec's ceilings are buggered. Think you put an extra zero in somewhere, because the poor guy's a centre and projects as having 5 FA. Simon Fernholm's been lumbered with 25 PE - the guy had less penalty minutes than he did points in 47 games this year.

Jacob Montgomery has what seems like an extra .74 in his ceilings. Otherwise, nice depth to fill out rounds 2-3.

All issues corrected. Thanks guys. Much appreciated.

I'm surprised the + sign in the ceilings line for Montgomery didn't fuck the file up and give runtime errors.

Some things changed with my employment situation, coupled with my niece's dance recital tonight, so I've fallen behind on some things. Much to my frustration.

Going to probably stay up real late one of these nights to catch up, but for now, I'll do what I can tomorrow to get back on track. All completed arb cases are posted and some have been sent out to my agents. I failed to get any draftees done and really no other file maintenance was completed.

One thing I did get to, Nicolas (Ottawa), there's a surprise for you in Binghamton.

Got 10 draftees into the file after all. Felt like I needed to get something done before I could go to bed.

Tomas Nosek: 2900
Richard Mraz: 2909
Alexei Filippov: 2958
Egor Malenkikh: 2978
Matej Zadrazil: 3137
Adam Hawlik: 3466
Sandro Zangger: 1908
Nikita Kvartalnov: 1492
Patrik Luza: 874
Ondrej Slovacek: 2369

Overwrote some of the old draftees. All fictional draftees are out of the file now. Everybody in the CSB is either a 2012 draftee or from previous drafts.

186 players in the 2012 class now.

Will upload file in morning.

Added 15 more players to the draft class today. I'm up to 201.

Top 90 Euro CSB, 10 goalies, top 117 NA CSB. Like I said, some of them are already in the file/drafted.

Going to probably add 23 more NA, 6 more goaltenders, and say that's the end of the draft class at an even 230 + others. I don't really want to go past top 90 Euro CSB because a lot of the Euro guys outside of the top 15-20 or so are just total crapshoots. Random players get taken and I'd have to do all 120 to cover all the bases.

Got caught up in some work that I get paid for.

Have Indians tickets next two days. Sunday and Monday will be catch up days. I have arbitrations to post in the morning, will try to advance the file and enter trades tomorrow before I leave for the game. No promises.

Sorry for the delays. Still trying to work on organizing my time with my extra responsibilities.

Catch-up night tonight. Will post the completed arbitrations that I have, enter remaining contracts, and hopefully input trades.

My goal is to have the draft class done by Tuesday.

Didn't get around to entering trades, though I did advance the file to that point. That'll be the first thing I do tomorrow. I'll enter trades and then start adding draftees. I should have almost all morning and afternoon free to work on EHEC stuff. Should be a light day with my other obligations.

In the meantime, guys, please make sure you're posting staff contracts and keeping up with arbitrations. I'll be sending out the 6/18 PMs in the morning.
