the impossible has happened: i am rooting for Barry Bonds to skate. is anyone following this trial? i thought we learned during the impeachment of Bill Clinton that in order to be convicted of prejury you had to PROVE a person was intentionally lying under oath repeatedly. you would think that evidence would include stuff like Barry saying on tape he lied, or six guys had proof Barry took the roids and that he knew what they were and said so.

instead, all we get is a maid saying she saw him take a needle in 2002 and somebody speculating that he HAD to know better? excuse me?

now i know he will get convicted because the government ALWAYS gets a conviction and people hate Barry, but i am hoping the judge will surprise me and toss this thing out before the jury does the wrong thing.

I don't know that I'm rooting for him to skate, but for so much smoke there seems to be very little fire. What I want to know is when is someone going to uncover just how much the league is doing behind the scenes to protect its team, its management, and its reputation (or, to put it more briefly, its ability to keep raking in the cash). These kinds of stories always seem to play out as "It's the players who are bad, evil people. Management knew NOTHING AT ALL about any drug use."

Remember this scene from "Casablanca"? Pretty appropriate, imo.
