EHEC FAQ (About EHEC)

Post by SharksGM »

Q: What is EHEC?

A: Eastside's Hockey Elite Collide is an online NHL simulation league founded in 2009. We simulate an NHL-like league at a real-time pace using the freeware EHM software, with GMs managing their teams using our custom web interface.

Q: What is EHM?

A: Eastside Hockey Manager is a freeware hockey simulator and management game released in 2001. You can learn more about EHM here.

Q: How does EHEC work?

A: We (the administration) simulate full NHL seasons in real time, starting with the preseason in September and through to the Stanley Cup Finals in June, along with the entry draft and offseason.

Each team has a general manager who is responsible for signing and trading players, maintaining rosters and submitting lineups for their pro and farm (AHL) teams. We have a custom web interface for making roster transactions and lines, as well as these forums for trading and contracts, so you do not need to use the EHM software at all.

Q: Who runs EHEC?

A: Essentially myself and Justin (Tampa Bay GM).

Q: What is special and/or different about EHEC?

A: EHEC's philosophy is to run a realistic simulation of a hockey league while keeping it fun and competitive for the managers. Many other online leagues simulate at a much faster pace (multiple seasons per year). We run in real time, making long-term planning more important and keeping a more relaxed pace for GMs. This also allows us to enter real prospects for the entry draft each year.

In previous seasons, we were able to follow the real NHL schedule, but since the NHL expanded to 31 (and soon 32 teams), this is no longer possible. We have also recently reverted to the old (and in my opinion superior) three division per conference format.

Q: How do I join EHEC?

A: Fill out an application and we'll get back to you within 1-2 business days. We recommend listing an alternative team in case your first choice is unavailable.

Q: What is being a GM like?

A: As mentioned above, a GM is responsible for trades, contracts, and lineups for their pro and farm teams. This should keep you fairly busy during the season, even though our real-time sim schedule is relatively laid back. Our GM tools make it possible to manage your team without using the EHM software yourself. However, you will need to ensure that your roster is compliant with the salary cap, and refer to our rulebook for information on how to sign free agents, amongst other things.
