2013 FREE AGENCY

Post by Virtual Jarmo »

I'm going to delay the start of free agency to Tuesday at 12 noon EST. I have a lot of things I have to get squared away in the file before it shows us an accurate representation of who is a free agent.

Also, this gives teams time to offer ELCs to their boosters before the rollover. I will enter the draft tonight and stop the file on the 18th. I will go through the rollover tomorrow night so I can do team options and things.

File will be uploaded tonight with 2013 draft results finished. Like I said, get your ELC offers in. If they aren't in by tomorrow night when I advance the file, you're shit out of luck.

We've got some new guys and some guys who probably need a post about free agency.

You PM all bids to the Free Agents account. If you're lazy, and I know most of you are, the link when you click on Free Agents is a link to PM that account.

This is a PRIVATE bidding. Upon the first bid we receive, we will start a thread in the Free Agency forum (which will be right below the General Forums section when I re-arrange them right after this post). We will update the thread as new high bids come in. If you get a PM reply that says that we got your bid and the thread isn't updated, then you don't have the highest bid. Your bid must stand as the highest for 18 hours in order to win. If a bid is received within the 18 hour window but not posted, it will still be valid.

The highest bid is TOTAL money, so YEARS x SALARY. There are exceptions if need be. I'll track down the tiebreaking procedure later, unless someone else wants to if they remember.

The minimum bid for a player cannot be less than 75% of his previous salary, with one exception. All players 30 & over who were UNSIGNED during the 2012-13 season, their minimum bid is 50%. Only 30 & OVER and only if they spent the ENTIRE 2012-13 season somewhere other than the NHL. This includes guys that spent all season in the AHL.

Maximum contract length is 6 years or 5 + team option. Please specify if you want the player to have a two-way.

These contracts are entered manually when bidding is done.

Questions, ask away.

Will we "give" -40 CON points to their 2013 1st rounder for the first GM to post a free agent bid on the public forum?

Yes. And a public shaming.

Any chance a list of UFA and RFA will be released? Or will it be the same as last year; anyone in the gamefile listed on a team in "red" is a UFA?

It looks that way, except that we haven't hit the EHM date where TO/PO need to be addressed. So bear that in mind as your scrolling through teams.

Was hoping to get to that point tonight. After sitting in pouring rain for 4 hours at the Indians game, I'm not making any promises.

Yeah that would be kinda a hassle in determing who is a FA and who isn't if we aren't passed the TO/PO stage.

We can always push back UFA 1 more night to get passed the TO/PO stage.

Just a thought. It's a long off-season, not like we're rushed.

New file rolled over through the summer is up. The file will not be advanced until August 30 now. If you notice that something is wrong, please tell me immediately. I probably missed something at some point.

From this point forward, all I will be doing to the file is entering free agent contracts through players.ehm and adjusting salaries to their formula and slot price, along with adding the charge for players that boosted. Dan is going to compile me a list by comparing the two files.

Free agency begins at 12 p.m. EST.

Two quick notes:

Alec Martinez (WPG) and Jeff Petry (EDM) were both qualified. They are RFAs.

BUF, LA, NJ, and NYR have one or two 2013 draftees listed as RFAs. (Guigovaz, Ainali, Guentzel, Kanzig, Yudin)

Wanted to clarify something that Pat and I have been discussing behind the scenes. I found this post from 2011 covering what we were discussing:
Let me clarify something briefly. When I say highest total salary wins, potential salary from a team/player option is NOT included in that. Because teams would just add Team Options to increase the total salary and then simply decline them. So, the highest total salary is only for guaranteed contract years.

I mistakenly accepted Leighton's TO. He's now a free agent. We'll start the bidding at $1.

So is it 1.5m and under or over for the max? 1,499,999 or 1.5m?

1.5M and under.

But, I don't see why it matters. DET ran into a TON of problems because all of his call-ups made 1.5M and he was right up against the cap. Not a very sound strategy.

Hey wait a minute no name calling please! :)

1.5M is to get the guy to play AHL. Nobody can overbid that for AHL purposes

Now you know my secret.

Going to bed now, will be up around 8:30 and by the PC by 9. Keep in mind that as long as bids are received within the 18-hour window, they are valid. If necessary, a new 18-hour window will begin when the thread is updated.

Guys, you don't have to keep asking me for your cap numbers. The current numbers are listed here in your Control Panel. If you have buyouts, that number is of course higher. Without injuries and pro-rated salaries, now is the easiest time for you to calculate your own payroll.

I don't think NHL GM's call the league office asking how much under the cap they are.

Unless they're Dave Nonis.
