Eaves is a sound and cheap defensive forward with a two-way contract. He's capable of filling in for my bottom six guys if any were to succumb to the injury bug. His positioning attribute is also superior to Forney's.

Eaves is a solid bottom-six forward and was a big part of San Antonio's Calder Cup Finals appearance. However, he's asking for NHL icetime and has been passed on the depth chart by Ryan Stone, who plays a much more physical game. With guys like Joe Basaraba developing quickly, Eaves wouldn't have been happy in his role with the Coyotes, so the team is happy to send him to Winnipeg where he has a chance to play full-time. Mike Forney is a bit of a project; he skates like he has two broken legs and has the positional smarts of roadkill, but he has upside on both offense and defense. Phoenix accepts this deal.
