Pro-ration isn't really a mess. You just have to add up cap hits every day or every game. I prefer doing this because it rewards people for managing their cap early on in the season, whereas if you just do pro-ration halfway through the season then it doesn't matter if your roster was at 60M or 40M in the first 40 games. The only downside is that it encourages sticking to a 20-man roster as much as possible.

Since Tim posted a link to his contract calculator, I don't see why it needs to go on the site. The GMCP page already adds up the cap hit and cap hits/years are available on the new(er) roster page too. I should probably fix the links on the rest of the pages so they all point to the newer versions of each page but I literally couldn't find where the header for the forum pages is saved.

Brett speaking the truth, well put.

I still like the idea of pro-ration, but we need to remove things that aren't worth the effort. What about a 25/50/75 cut-off data for % of salary retained?

Good posts. Scrap pro-ration for good! Useless work and hate to see trades based on that.

I agree with this. I'd like to keep pro-ration.

25/50/75. It would be a simple system, and easy to document.

Just far more simple, I thought the whole point of this was to make the rule book less complicated.

I claimed Rene Bourque from TB's re-entry who was claimed from CBS's re-entry, so 50% of 50%, does it keep going for the next season? I've been there since year 1 and I don't understand (I'm not a lightbulb), but I'm pretty sure new GMs will be lost.

Some guys were traded 3 times since January (mainly cause of me who trades a lot), so his contract is absorbed by the other team at 50%, then later 25%, then what, so fucking complicated for nothing.

NO PRO-RATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: A few notes...

Re-entry waivers have nothing to do with pro-rating.

We'll likely remove re-entry waivers but the existing claims will remain for the remainder of the contracts. The good news is that Bourque's contract is up at the end of the season anyways.

This is my submission for regulations regarding line strategies:

Rule #1

No team is allowed to use the tactic "Hit and Grind" or "Neutral Zone Trap" on their First Line.

Rule #2

The tactics "Hit and Grind" and "Neutral Zone Trap" may not be used for more then two lines.

Rule #3 - The Twenty Second Rule

In numerical order, the following lines shift length may not be more or less then 20 seconds then the previous line.

For example, 10/50/50/10 would be illegal. Line 2 is 40 seconds longer then Line 1. Also, Line 4 is 40 seconds less then Line 3.

Another example, 10/50/10/50 would be illegal. Again, Line 2 is 40 seconds longer then Line 1. Also, Line 3 is 40 seconds less then Line 2, and Line 4 is 40 seconds longer then Line 3.

The 20s rule is a bit complicated when typing it out, but it's rather simple to apply to your lineup. It eliminates what some GMs are complaining about. Teams would be unable to stack their top two lines, and take advantage of EHM's less then realistic fatigue/endurance effect. Also, if teams need to hide weaker players with short shift lengths, they are forced to also play their better players on shorter shift lengths.

I think it addresses the classic 90/90/10/10 strategy. In addition, it also alters the new types of lineups some GMs have found a lot of success with, despite it slightly detracting from EHEC's realism. For example, 50/10/50/10 would now have to be 50/30/50/30. Or, 90/90/10/10 would now have to be 90/90/70/50.

I think 20s rule puts a lot more control back in GMs hands about how they set their lineup. I think we will see more variations of successful teams, a higher competition level and more adjustments made mid-series. Overall, a richer and deeper strategic experience which I think is what were all here for.

Also want to point out my own lines that roared back from a 3-1 deficit against the storied MTL Canadiens would be illegal. Unlike Bern's proposed rules, my current lines aren't tailored made for them.

I love you Bern!

Whatever we decide on, it should be sooner rather then later. Maybe we should vote on it? Get it done before the draft.

That's not a bad idea at all actually. The only thing around that is someone could run all 4 lines at 10 seconds each, OR do 20/10/20/10 or 30/10/30/10.

Glad to see it's been positively received so far.

Brad, I purposely wanted to avoid rules like "max 70 sec this" or "min 30 sec that". That's putting more constraint on the number of possible lineups. I wanted to come up with rules that would address EHM's flaws, but also allow the most creativity and adjustments. As simple as possible, but not to simple. I'm not smart enough to calculate it, but I imagine there a lot more possible legal line-ups with what I proposed then the current system. I also think this system rewards teams that have depth, which is what some GMs have been calling for.

For example, what about a team that has 3 90/60 F's, 3 60/90 F's, and 6 70/70's? If they put out 90RNG/70NZT/50x/30x they might run over some people. I just think this will make things fresh, and open up Season 6 for both old and new players. Some of the older GMs who know the niches of the rulebook and strategies will be forced to start thinking again. It will be a more level playing field.

Other note:

What is going to happen to UFA's set to retire. The guys who are good enough to play, but no one can pay to play. Maybe another thing to look at is the minimum contract rules, especially in today's cap crunch era.

If we're going to bother with this kind of rule, and I'm not sure we should, I'd suggest:

Min. 20 secs
Line 1 time >= line 2 >= line 3 >= line 4

Otherwise, Justin's proposal would ban 50-50-50-20, which seems perfectly reasonable to me, but not 30-10-30-10, which seems unrealistic.

Re: A few notes...

I guess so, particularly with the minimum shift length. However, I think it's addressed the fact that GMs have solved, or are very close to solving, the optimum team type and tactics with the current rules. In order to keep things fresh and interesting, I figured I would propose going in a different direction regarding line restrictions. Also, it moves away from stacking your top two lines, which some people did not like. I'm willing to admit it's not the most realistic tactic, but it's to effective not to use.

It would be a new puzzle for us to collectively solve, all the while moving towards more realistic game-play. Fun for the whole family!

Well Dan you would just have to do 50-50-40-20, but yeah, you're right 50-50-50-20 is reasonable.

Justin's rule could work with a few tweaks, and that being there has to be a minimum shift length of 20 or 30 seconds because if we're striving to change things up or more realistic or whatever, people are just going to do 10-10-10-10. or 20-10-20-10, or 30-10-30-10, etc.

I don't have a problem with teams stacking their first and second lines... I have a problem with stacked 4th lines.
Just like Dan said:

Line 1 >\= Line 2 >\= Line 3 >\= Line 4
That's perfect.

This is something the committee will discuss soon as well. I don't think you should be able to pluck a 75+ OA ufa up for league minimum, but I also don't think we should keep these guys "priced out" of the league either.

And great ideas, good discussion guys.

Pat, is it possible to post a .txt file with all the draftee's names? It's easier to scout then using EHM's CSB.

Here you go, the raw list I worked from when adding players. (The # after the name is their junior team in EHM; the second player on each line is the guy they replaced in the file.) This list should be complete.

NOTE: I may make a few minor tweaks to ratings, well before the draft. I'll let folks know who, if anyone, I've changed. However....height, weight, positions, are FINAL. There will be no changes to any of those ratings/numbers.

Or I could just whip up some PHP that emails people's submitted lineup directly to Brad with an accept/reject link, which would then go back to the GM's inbox notifying them if it's passable.

This sounds more intriguing then a ThunderDome. :P

Good to see some positive ideas and developments here while I'm hating my life in South Carolina because children are awful creatures. The adults are cool, but children are unfuckingbearable.

Pat's doing a great job in my absence. Maybe I'll just stay absent.

Can anyone else not find Connor Bleackley? Or was he just added?

I asked Adam on Skype awhile ago, but what about LE boosts for WJC? So hard to get LE to develop, and near impossible for teams not in the playoffs. +4 for Gold, +3 for Silver, +2 for Bronze, +1 for participating.

Also, while it be adding to the task of the simmer, what about sending players back to juniors who are eligible during the in-game selection process? If they are going to be LE boosts, it would be worth it despite missing out on development in the NHL/AHL for a few weeks. You see this happen in the NHL a couple times a year.

I don't think it's something where the work needed matches the impact it would have.

Every could nominate one or two players from their roster. You would send them back to juniors in-game (simple) and then edit them back to NHL/AHL after the WJC (not so simple). I would volunteer to do the work on the gamefile.

He's in there. ID # 68.

He's also #16 on the CSB (not that that means much of anything) when I opened the game just now.

Great job on the draft Pat, should be very interesting.

I also can't find Artur Boltanov, Hannes Björninen, Adam Helewka, and Hunter Smith.

Hmm. I'm not sure why you're not finding them. I've got the latest player file open and they're all there.

I played around a bit with the spelling, still couldn't track them down. I am using the most current gamefile.

Not a big deal, if anyone wants to post their info from players.ehm and position I would greatly appreciate it. I remember last draft class not being able to find a couple of guys.

Okay, tweaked a few players slightly: Draisaitl, Virtanen, Ehlers, Sharov, Nekolenko, Korshkov, McKeown, Kapanen, Seamus Malone, Foegele.

Justin, I can pm you the info from the player file for the guys you mentioned, if you like.

I think you mean Kamenev, not Korshkov? Or both?

Yeah I know, Russians, can't tell 'em apart either... no need for applause, I've got more where that came from.

Nah. Some guys I left alone. At this point, we'll just live with knowing some guys are overrrated, some guys underrated.

It's very hard having too many sets of hands working on the gamefile because of the increased chance for run-time errors and the delays in doing other tasks. While waiting for LE boosts or juniors stuff or whatever, nobody else can work on the file.

I added Jacob de la Rose to the WJC for Vancouver, but with no benefits. He just wanted him to play for interest's sake I guess.

Simplest way to do this is just to make the draft class with higher LE instead of manipulating the WJC.

... I just meant that Kamenev was the one who was changed, not Korshkov. Korshkov looks unchanged.

I am against making the WJC meaningful. On realism grounds, the real-life WJC just doesn't seem to matter that much. The Memorial Cup is a bigger deal for CHL prospects. And practically speaking, EHM'S WJC is a joke, where every game takes 0.00001 seconds to simulate and ends up with 9 goals total no matter who plays.

Meh, I still think the WJC is a big deal at least in Canada. However, I can understand the concerns about touching the gamefile.

At the root of my request was that it's very hard for non-playoff teams players LE to develop. I'm sure we could come up with some type of reward system this off-season that could be used on players under a certain age/LE rating.

I think the AHL playoffs are enough to help LE issues.

Were probably not going to do AHL playoffs next year. Many players that are young, talented and ineligible for the AHL playoffs are stuck with LE in the 50's.

I think LE should be the one thing we reward active GM's for.
