Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
Just saw that when I edited the schedule, I accidentally put Buffalo in the playoffs schedule instead of Boston. I just updated schedule.ehm. I will make sure that whoever sims has the most up-to-date file.

It's the wife's TV night, so I'm hoping to get 15-20 draftees done tonight and start getting back into EHEC things.

1. It reminds me of Robert Baratheon. Poor guy.
2. In French, it's not particularly funny. In English, his last name is one letter away from Bail Large One. Like Goldman Sachs, see. Or Buy Large One, like a quart-sized fountain soda. Hey, if it works for Hugh "Huge Specimen or Huge Ass Man" Jessiman, he can pull it off.

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
Gonna get back at this next week. Schedule change for the wife and I, so I'll be able to dedicate some more time to the draft class. It'll be done, no worries.
Will also work on contracts next week. I've really let those slide. My apologies.
Also, Nicolas, just tell your friends to sign up. I still didn't email them back and I feel like an asshole for that. Shoot me a PM when you see this so I can open new user registration up.

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
Tomorrow's the day that I'll get back on the draft, E5s, contracts, etc. Will try to do some draftees tonight since the wife has 3 hours of TV to watch.
Bern, I would think that the first round is close to done. There are 64 players in the draft class so far and I believe that includes the top 10 Euros from mid-season. I haven't looked at end-of-season, nor have I edited the existing Euros based on the end-of-season rankings. Teuvo Teravainen jumped up the list, so he'll be edited. There are also no goaltenders in the file yet.
I'm going to be buried up to my head in EHEC stuff over the next 3 weeks. Please be patient with me in regards to getting around to things. I also have to start setting up arbitration hearings.
The draft class is my #1 priority since that one has to be done by June 22. Just 19 days to add about 180 (give or take) players to the file.
For those of you who haven't done your contracts yet, please get that done. If they aren't posted by the time I start entering them, I'm just going to act in the team's best interest and you may have to deal with a buyout if I sign somebody you don't want.
The trade freeze will be lifted one week after the completion of our Stanley Cup Final (which could be as early as tomorrow night). Again, with everything I have to do, be patient about the accepting of trades. I'll try to have most contracts done by then so that you can trade rights if need be. Please familiarize yourself with our rights trading policy and compensation.
I still hope to have CBA talks on the horizon, sometime over the summer/during the later rounds of the draft, to break up the monotony. I'll organize some live chats for those.
I will be out of town in LAS FUCKING VEGAS(!!!!!) from June 30-July 7. I realize that free agency is supposed to start on July 1, but ours will not until the conclusion of the draft. I'll check in as much as I can during that week. But this is your heads up. The draft should run smoothly and I will entrust a couple more people to help with auto-picking and forward them the draft lists in my absence.

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
Alright, calling it a night at 35. Took the easy way out and did the top 5 goalies in both NA and European CSB. Did all Euro skaters. The top 50 NA and Euro are in the file now plus 10 goalies. Some of the Euro top 50 were in as part of previous drafts.
Here's the list of tonight's additions:
Erik Karlsson
Calle Andersson
Niklas Tikkinen
Evgeni Krutikov
Henri Ikonen
Mikael Wikstrand
Nathan Walker
Erik Nemec
Rasmus Kulmala
Tobias Tornkvist
Otso Rantakari
Mikko Lehtonen
Jesper Pettersen
Simon Fernholm
Christoph Bertschy
Gustav Rydahl
Ales Kilnar
Jakub Izacky
Petr Koblasa
Richard Nejezchleb
Joonas Huovinen
Samuel Walser
Emil Lundberg
Dario Simion
Petteri Lindbohm
Malcolm Subban
Andrei Vasilevski
Oscar Dansk
Joonas Korpisalo
Brandon Whitney
Jake Paterson
Anthony Stolarz
Jean Auren
Marek Langhamer
Francois Tremblay
99 draftees in the file. So, I'm a little over 40% done with the draft. For the most part, the guys already in the file will not be edited, barring something drastic.
If anyone wants the entire list of 99, shoot me a PM.
File uploaded w/ new draftees: http://www.ehechockey.com/EHEC.zip

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
Nice to see there's plenty of depth in this draft despite earlier protests.
If I may add a few comments, Reinhart and Koekkoek seem a little underrated compared to scouting consensus. Gaunce is probably somewhat overrated (he should go top 10 in EHEC but may not IRL) and most of the world seems to believe Grigorenko's a floaty emotionless Russian robot so he maybe deserves lower con, lower than Yakupov at least.

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
Koekkoek is 23rd in the final CSB rankings. That's a drop from the 17 he was at mid-season. He's a late first, early second rounder in all likelihood, though a team may certainly go off the board.SharksGM wrote:Nice to see there's plenty of depth in this draft despite earlier protests.

Reinhart dropped a spot (Galchenyuk added to rankings pushed everybody down a spot). I think he's fine.
Gaunce does appear to be a little high. I'll take another look at him and some scouting reports.
Grigorenko's CON was a typo. Was not meant to be a 76. Will update for the next upload. Thanks for catching that.
It's a weak crop of North American forwards and goaltenders this year. I'm trying to walk the line of keeping people interested in the draft while not having too many players that are overrated and overvalued. Plus, there are already so many good defensemen in previous draft classes, so I don't want to make them too strong, relative to the forwards.

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
I dunno, I'd rank EHEC Reinhart in the high teens at the highest. Maatta's quite a bit better in the file and still not certain to go top 10, IMO. Compared to players I've had, I'd say Maatta > Kronwall > Grant > Reinhart.
Any hints coming as to EHEC's cap before the offseason gets well underway?

This isn't supposed to be exactly scientific. If players could bust in EHM, it'd be a much better system.
As for the EHEC salary cap, no. No discussions have been had. We will be having CBA talks this summer, which could dictate what happens to future salary caps. For this season, I'd expect it to stay close to the same with possibly a minor increase.

Also made a slight change to his POT/CON. Didn't realize how weird it was. I must have been drunk when I started the draft class.

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
Furthermore, Dan, as an addendum to my last post, I didn't set Kronwall or Grant's POT/CON or ceilings. The ceilings were set by 1.15b when we generated the file and the attributes were done by Vik. So, I wouldn't have made Grant, or even Kronwall, as good as they are in the file. That's not really on me. So, I can't compare all the players by that line of logic. Take JF Jacques. Guy's 75 OF 80 DF and he's nothing in real life. Not much I can do about it now. I wasn't going to go through and make all kinds of edits to the players. For some, it was luck of the draw more than anything else.SharksGM wrote:I dunno, I'd rank EHEC Reinhart in the high teens at the highest. I can at least control the draftees. And Reinhart's right where I think he should be. A 2nd pair D on an average/below average team, a 3rd pair D on a good team. Seems reasonable given where you project him to be drafted.

The staff offers for MIN, TOR, DET, OTT, CGY will need to be re-inputted for tonight's sim because of EHM's pain in the ass glitch about staff offers. I wrote myself a note, but this is another one.

First two round eliminations are done by standings order, conference finals losers are 27 and 28.

Actually you're both half right. picks 15 through 26 are determined by regular season standings. But division winners pick last so LA shouldn't be 26th. WSH and BOS should be 26 and 25. Sorry Boston for the 5 spot swing.

I played against Mike Matheson (ranked 30th in NA skaters) the other day and he's pretty fucking good! Uses his size well, very good positioning/checking/playmaking/shot/sick hands, he's got it all, very consistent also. Got a point every 2 games for Dubuqe in USHL this year, a point per game in the playoffs.

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
Got some errands and things out of the way today to hopefully focus on EHEC stuff tomorrow. Will calculate posted contract offers and start offering them in the game. I'm also going to sim ahead (not saving) to get team/player options in order. Will post those in a stickied thread in the Contract Offers forum.
Also hoping to get 15-20 draftees into the file, update the draft order (should be right now based on Division Winners), and start scheduling arbitrations. I'm going to try and come up with an arbitration calendar so that I can do it in a timely manner. Since I'll be gone the first week of July, I want to have almost everything on my end taken care of. You guys will just be doing the mid-to-late rounds of the draft and hopefully FA will be ready to go when I get back.

You guys will just be doing the mid-to-late rounds of the draft and hopefully FA will be ready to go when I get back.

Make sure you check out the thread about Arbitration as the process has changed slightly. I have PMed my player agents with further instructions for them and all arbitration PMs to GMs will explain the process. But please familiarize yourself with it.

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
Manually going through each team and looking for TO and PO because EHM doesn't generate the list until after the draft and it actually seems easier to do it this way.
Pondering with Committee right now if we should honor team and player options on Entry-Level Contracts pre-new financial policy. I'm leaning towards no, but we'll see what happens when I get a chance to talk to Ryan and Tommy about it.
Seems wrong that M-Paajarvi-S would play at between 1.4-2.4M over the next two seasons when the formula splits out 3.075M. Which, odds are, is still a little low and shows a flaw in the formula. Hence why we will look to re-evaluate it this summer.
Brett Connolly is probably the most egregious example. Signed to a 6-yr ELC with TO and PO, he'll make no more than 2.6M for the duration of that contract, which has 7 years left including options. With FA after next season (contract calculated with Fastsim), Connolly would make 5,783,750 with the current formula.
It's less of an issue with guys like Lander who have both a TO & PO, but won't be 80+ OF.
I'll take opinions and thoughts.

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
List of team and player options is posted.
Guys with (TBD) after their name have options attached to Entry-Level Contracts, which Tommy and Ryan are discussing with me now.
For non-TBD ones, please just reply in the options thread if you accept/reject the team options. That'll help me finalize the arbitration list so I can get started on those, hopefully with some hearings this weekend.

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
All ELCs signed before the new financial policy will be edited to mirror the current financial policy. So, no option years will be attached to those contracts and they will be edited to 3 years from the contract signing date.
This is the bad news for tonight. (don't hate me, Parker)
For me and you. Now I have to go back through and see when they were all signed, adding more work for me. For you, the ELC players are closer to formula contracts. We just can't allow players to be signed for 7 years after being drafted or when signed as an existing prospect.
Obviously, this won't be a happy development for some of you, but I ask for your understanding. If you think about it, we would have 2011 or 2012 draftees making two or three times more than 2010 draftees by the time they get to the formula chart. We can't have that. It's just unrealistic.
The good news is coming in the form of the salary cap, which is one of the things I conceded on to enact the ELC policy.

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
Also, I realized that, buried in one of my 2011 posts, I said there would be a 100k bonus for LE 70+ and 200k for 75+ for guys 27 and under. Have to go look back through all of the contracts now.

Players demanding to renegotiate their contracts. Happens in the real world, I'm sure, no reason it can't be a thing here. Maybe...if player's current salary is less than X% of what the formula believes it should be, they'll request a renegotiation, where X would be affected by the player's greed? Guys who are up there in the 110-120 region might be demanding it if they're not making at least 90% of what the formula says they should be?Commissioner (CBJ) wrote:Seems wrong that M-Paajarvi-S would play at between 1.4-2.4M over the next two seasons when the formula splits out 3.075M. Please check your team/player options.
If you decline your team option, you can still send a player to arbitration to try and lobby for a cheaper contract.

Re: 2012 Draft Class & Updates
Going to be adding dates to arbitration hearings in this thread. The first time frames will start on Sunday. You will have 3-5 days, depending on the caliber of player being sent to arbitration. Lesser guys will be 3 days. Better players will be 5 days.
I will send you a PM on the first day of your 3-5 day timeframe with further instructions for that player. Please check the dates and try to know ahead of time when your player's hearing is coming up so that you can get this back to me in a timely fashion. I'll try to group some of them together so that you can look at all of your players at once.
Remember what your job is as a GM - save your team money. You can offer a player no less than 70% (in calculator, enter his salary and multiply by .7 to get the minimum), but you will lose bargaining power if you do that with every player without making a good case.
