It's game 6 in OTT and the first elimination possibility in this years finals. It's the juggernaut, the Ottawa Senators, brilliant year over year but yet to hoist lord stanley's cup. And on the other side, the Redwings, plucky upstarts, blasting the doors open after a rebuild, and president's winners to boot. Are we done? Or is there a game 7 for everyone's excitement?
PERIOD 1 - Nerves and Nailbiting
Both teams exchange blows, with Dylan Strome from McJesus and Sillinger, within the first two minutes. Detroit won't go quietly into the night, however, answering exactly to the minute, with Brennan Othmann the one man show. It's 1-1 after 1.
PERIOD 2 - Breathing and Braking
The whistles are starting to be put away, after 3 in period 1, we have only 1 this period. This time Eklund from Reinhart and its a 2-1 Detroit lead! The ageless Shea Weber, however, blasts a howlitzer from the point and ties it up. It's 2-2 after 2!
PERIOD 3 - Greatness delayed is not greatness denied
There's no penalties. There's also no question. OTT puts the chokehold and awaits the tap, as Wilson, Pietro, and Sillinger score, upping the lead to 3, which as we all know, is safely 1 away from the 'worst lead in hockey'.
The gloves rain down like confetti as the time ticks down. 5... guys jump the bench, 4... Pickard is helmetless, waiting for his mates, 3... the crowd is so loud its as though the building will collapse, 2... The Redwings are at their bench, stoic and reserved, 1... and after a moment of what feels like numbness and silence - its jubilation.
Congratulations to Marty who has built a monster, finally reaching the top. Congrats to Kevin who has shown the way to the younger franchises that a rebuild can lead to a great team. We will have to get from Marty how the cup hand off goes. Not sure how many cups Weber won over his time with NSH/CHI/MTL, but a wonderful end to an EHEC career.
Hope everyone had a wonderful year. Another successful one here in the EHEC-verse. Let's hope 25/26 is just as much fun.

Alas. I'm surprised I got this far and am not especially disappointed, given the overall season. Somehow managing to win the regular season which obviously matters more than winning a short tournament, winning my first playoff series, coming back from 3-0 down, somehow managing to beat Dan, taking a series lead in the Stanley Cup finals, playing the most games in the playoffs, going 1 for 66 on the powerplay in the playoffs... all in all, I shouldn't complain.
BUT I WILL (it's Nick's fault. Also fuck the refs :p )
Anyway, congrats Marty, a well deserved win. Hoping for a rematch next year

Congrats to the Sens and Marty.
What a 'you only get this with a 24 year old sim engine' level of fun and funky playoffs.

Congrats to Marty for a well-deserved win, and to Kevin belatedly for game 7, which I am still mad about.
