I agree....This gives me depth to work with and I only take on million more dollars in salary. I add a solid goalie and another top 6 forward. I trade away a great two way defenseman and a defensive sniper in Franzen.

I'm only going to discuss my part of the deal: Franzen vs McDonald + STL 2nd round 2011

I was looking to add another sniper to my top 6 and Franzen's 85 in shooting is what I was looking for.
Adding a 37 goal scorer to a poor offense is exciting.
He's also solid defensively, much more than McDonald is. I needed that.

I was happy with McDonald as a top line center but I was also loooking to give youngsters Oshie and Berglund more icetime at center if possible. I'm also saving 750 000$ which is significant with the recent announcement concerning the salary cap.
I'm expecting the pick I'm sending to turn into a mid-round to late 2nd round pick. Worth the gamble.

I agree, With Rafalski in my lineup, i really have a good shot to the cup. Detroit was the only team who have showed interest in Toskala, Erskine was not in my future plan since i've take the GM job. I also save 750k in cap space.
